  • A system engineering play a key role in new signalling system development. The signalling system development process consists several phases which are requirement analysis, functional analysis, system synthesis and system analysis. Each phase of the development are decomposed according to system engineering process. The key topics to be considered are shown in the each phase such as safety. This paper shows the application of system engineering process to a signalling system development.

  • The effects of various process paramenters on the detailed aspects of the thermo-mechanical behavior of work roll and on the roll life are investigated via a series of process simulation, using a mathematical model presented previously. The process conditions are discussed that are favorable or optimal in terms of reducing roll wear in the front finishing stands.

  • In this paper, an extended process model is proposed for the application of flexible belt grinding equipment as utilized in robotic grinding. The analytical and experimental results corresponding to grinding force, material removal rate (MRR) and contact area in the robotic grinding shows the difference between the conventional grinding and the flexible robotic grinding. The process model representing the relationship between the material removal and the normal force acting at the contact area has been applied to robotic programming and control. The application of the developed model in blade grinding demonstrates the effectiveness of proposed process model.

  • RFID (Radio Frequence Identification) is emerging technology and it is used for many fields. The research about RFID has been focused on hardware such as increasing hitting ratio. But recently the research about how and where RFID can apply is going on. Especially people are doing research about connecting RFID with existing information system. In this paper, when BPM manage RFID based manufacturing operation process, we show components which is needed and how we can obtain the components. And we apply this to straw manufacturing process on experiment. The claim-handling process and order-handling process which need improvement in straw manufacturing are chosen and we improve those processes. For executing the improved process, we define components which are database, data acquisition workflow and real-time event processing system and then we make prototype system.

  • With the increasing interest of reducing process variation, statistical process control has served the pivotal tool in most industrial quality programs. In this study, system analyses have been performed associated with a cost incorporated version of a process control, a quadratic loss-based X over bar control chart model. Specifically, two issues, the capital/research investments for improvement of a system and the precision of a parameter estimation, have been addressed and discussed. Through the analysis of experimental results, we show that process variability is seen to be one of the most important sources of loss and quality improvement efforts should be directed to reduce this variability. We further derive the results that, even if the optimal designs may be sensitive, the model appears to be robust with regard to misspecification of parameters. The approach and discussion taken in this study provide a meaningful guide for proper process control. We conclude this study with providing general comments.

  • A new device that uses turbulent air for mixing wood fibers with thermoplastic fibers was designed and its mixing effectiveness was evaluated in wood fiber and polypropylene fiber composites. Composites made by the turbulent air mixing (TAM) process performed better than composites made by the conventional Rando-Webber forming or nonwoven web process with an additional needling step. Thus, the TAM process proved to be a simple and efficient method in mixing wood fibers with short thermoplastic fibers for the production of wood fiber and thermoplastic fiber composites.

  • SPI (Software Process Improvement) activities have been considered one of the crucial approaches to achieve high quality, productivity and timely delivery of software products and services. The basic premise of SPI model is that higher maturity levels lead to better performance. In this research, the relationships between SPI results and performance were empirically investigated with Korean software companies. CMM key process areas were categorized into two dimensions, 'Process Implementation' and 'Quantitative Management'. The relationship between process implementation and performance was significant, but the relationship between quantitative management and performance was insignificant. The control variable, size of OU(Organizational Unit), did not have significant impact on the relation ships between SPI activities and OU performance.
