  • An optimal channel input-traffic control (OCIC) policy is proposed for slotted frequency-hopped spread-spectrum multiple access communication systems. When the number of channel input packets is set to the optimal number, the conditional throughput for the OCIC policy is analyzed. The state transition probability is derived, the steady state performance is analyzed, and the mean pracket delay is obtained. It is shown that the mean packet delay decreases considerably when the priority of transmission is given to backlogged users. The smaller is the number of requency slots, the larger are the differences between the preformance of the OCIC policy and that of the other policies.

  • An initial carrier frequency offset estimation algorithm is proposed for a multi-user frequency bowing orthogonal frequency division modulation-frequency division multiple access (FH-OFDMA) system with a single preamble symbol. To mitigate the effect of the frequency offset, every mobile station needs to accurately and rapidly acquire synchronization. The proposed algorithm uses only one preamble symbol in which two kinds of subcarriers are designed for coarse and fine frequency offset estimation. The non-data aided estimation using the energy spectrum is exploited for fine offset estimation, and maximum likelihood estimation using correlation for coarse offset estimation. By combining the two estimation results, an accurate frequency offset can be estimated with a single symbol. Through simulations, the performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by comparing estimation error variance with a conventional method.

  • The different types of coastal souctures have been constructed for the protection of coastal region from the incident waves. Among them. the permeable submerged breakwater has been widely used as a wave dissipater and sediment transport controller because of its excellent advantages in scenery effects, construction efficiency and environment aspects. This study numerically investigated the characteristics of wave energy variations and transmission coefficient at the rear of the permeable submerged breakwater installed in the irregular wave field. To analyze it's performance numerically, a two-dimensional numerical wave flume based on VOF method was used. A frequency spectral analysis showed that the spectral peak moved to the short-period in the one-row submerged breakwater, and the wave energy was distributed evenly for the whole period in the two-row submerged breakwater in the case of breaking on the submerged breakwater. The spectral peak was shown to be converged within the significant wave period at the rear of the permeable submerged breakwater in the case of non-breaking conditions. From the result of transmission coefficients analysis. it was confirmed that a considerable quantity of wave energy was transmitted to the rear of the permeable submerged breakwater in the case of non-breaking rather than breaking.

  • In this study, series of nonlinear seismic analysis were performed on a reinforced concrete intake tower surrounded by water. To consider the fluid effect around the structure, analysis models were composed using an added mass and CEL approach. At this time, the implicit method was used for the added mass model, and the explicit method was used for the fluid structure interaction model. The input motions were scaled to correspond to 500, 1000, and 2400 years return period of the same artificial earthquake. To estimate the counteractivity of the fluid coupled model, models without fluid effect were constructed and used as a reference. The material models of concrete and reinforcement were selected to consider the nonlinear behavior after yielding, and analysis were performed by ABAQUS. As results, in the acceleration response spectrum of the structure, it was found that the influence of the surrounding fluid reducing the peak frequency and magnitude corresponding to the fundamental frequency of the structure. However, the added mass model did not affect the peak value corresponding to the higher mode. The sectional moments were increased significantly in the case of the added mass model than those of the reference model. Especially, this amplification occurred largely for a small-sized earthquake response in which linear behavior is dominant. In the fluid structure interaction model, the sectional moment with a low frequency component amplifies compared to that of the reference model, but the sectional moment with a high requency component was not amplified. Based in these results, it was evaluated that the counteractivity of the additive mass model was greater than that of the fluid structure interaction model.
