Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the repeatability and reproducibility of the Ryodoraku acupuncture device. For such device to be accepted as a good apparatus for clinical diagnosis, the score it provides should be stable no matter who measure it or when it is measured, assuming all other conditions equal. Materials and Methods : Three oriental medical doctors who were well trained and fully aware of the usage of the Ryodoraku acupuncture device examined ten randomly selected patients three times. Each doctor measured the Ryodoraku scores three times from each of the 10 selected patients. Three doctors were involved in this experiment to investigate the reproducibility and each of them measured the Ryodoraku scores three times from each patient to investigate the repeatability. Data was analyzed with Friedman test, Spearman correlation test, and intra-class correlation coefficient(ICC) in SPSS ver. 18. Results : 1. The Friedman test showed that there is no statistically significant difference between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ryodoraku scores measured by the same examiner. It indicates that the Ryodoraku acupuncture device provides the repeatability. 2. Spearman correlation test confirmed the results obtained by the Fiedman test by showing that there exists a strong positive correlation between the three Ryodoraku scores measured by the same examiner. 3. A very high ICC among the three examiner assured that the Ryodoraku acupuncture device achieves the reproducibility. Conclusions : The Ryodoraku acupuncture device achieves the repeatability and reproducibility. However, we still recommend that a doctor trained to a certain level use the Device to carry out the diagnosis. Also, to improve the device in terms of Reproducibility even more, it should be considered to provide a manual for the exact usage.

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical applicability of the repeatability criteria recommended by the American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (ATS/ERS) spirometry guidelines and to determine which factors affect the repeatability of spirometry in Korean adults. Methods: We reviewed the spirometry data of 4,663 Korean adults from the Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (KNHANES) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Cohort (COPD cohort) and the Community-based Cohort Study VI-Fishing village/Islands (community cohort). We measured the anthropometric factors and differences between the highest and second-highest FVC (dFVC) and $FEV_1$ ($dFEV_1$) from prebronchodilator spirometry. Analyses included the distribution of dFVC and $dFEV_1$, comparison of the values meeting the 1994 ATS repeatability criteria with the values meeting the 2005 ATS/ERS repeatability criteria, and the performance of linear regression for evaluating the influence of subject characteristics and the change of criteria on the spiro-metric variability. Results: About 95% of subjects were able to reproduce FVC and $FEV_1$ within 150 ml. The KNHANES based on the 1994 ATS guidelines showed poorer repeatability than the COPD cohort and community cohort based on the 2005 ATS/ERS guidelines. Demographic and anthropometric factors had little effect on repeatability, explaining only 0.5 to 3%. Conclusion: We conclude that the new spirometry repeatability criteria recommended by the 2005 ATS/ERS guidelines is also applicable to Korean adults. The repeatability of spirometry depends little on individual characteristics when an experienced technician performs testing. Therefore, we suggest that sustained efforts for public awareness of new repeatability criteria, quality control of spirograms, and education of personnel are needed for reliable spirometric results.
This study aims to realize high precision repetitive positioning control of the linear servo motor. The authors have previously improved the repeatability positioning precision by employing a two-degree-of-freedom PID controller in the positioning control, rather than equal distance positioning, and investigates the repeatability positioning precision.
Objectives : The object of this study was to evaluate repeatability of portable spirometry and to determine an appropriate equation for predicted value. Materials and Methods : The subjects were 76 men and 45 women recruited from among Kyunghee University oriental medical students. Portable spirometry was performed via the procedure recommended in ATS guidelines. Repeatability of spirometry was checked against ATS repeatability standards and NHLEP QC grade. Percentage of predicted value of non-smokers was calculated through a Caucasian population-based regression equation(by Morris et al.) and Korean population based regression equation(by Kim et al.). These were compared. Result : 91.7% of subjects matched repeatability standards of ATS and 95% of subjects got interpretable NHLEP QC grades of A, B, and C. Mean percentage of predicted value by Morris et al. were as follows: Mean of FVC% was 90.86, FEV1% was 96.66, FEV1/FVC% was 107.48. Mean percentage of predicted value by Kim et al. were as follows. Mean FVC% was 92.38, FEV1% was 89.77, FEV1/FVC% was 96.95. Conclusions : Results of this study show that more than 90% of subjects meet repeatability criteria. This supports a role for the portable spirometer as a primary oriental medical office tool. Further, results are a verify that they Korean population-based predicted value equation is a more appropriate standard than the Caucasian population-based one, but a still more accurate standard is needed for the Korean adult population.

This report deals with a feeding system of the Coaxal grinding machine, processing optical ferrule. This report also examines the applicability of using the feeding system for the Coaxial grinding machine, by mean of conducting performance estimation. The results are as follow; Repeatability of regulating wheel is $17{\mu}m$, R/W rotation accuracy is between $30\;\~\;40{\mu}m$. This means 'Rotation accuracy' is lower than the concentricity level. Backlash generation level at the feeding system of the grinding wheel is under $1{\mu}m$, thereby positioning accuracy is controlled within $2{\mu}m$ In terms of repeatability, you can find occasional error at the returning process from the starting point. This error is resulted from the measurement tolerance of the starting point sensor. We will get the repeatability level under control by $1{\mu}m$, through improving the soft-ware used and up-grading the sensor at the starting point.
Objectives Facial features can be utilized as an indicator of Korean medical diagnosis. They are often measured by using the diagnostic device for an objective diagnosis. Accordingly, it is necessary to verify the reliability of the features which are obtained from the device for the accurate diagnosis. In this study, we attempt to evaluate the repeatability of facial feature variables using the Sasang Constitutional Analysis Tool(SCAT) for the Sasang Constitutional face diagnosis. Methods Facial pictures of two subjects were taken 24 times respectively for two days according to a standard guideline. In order to evaluate the repeatability, the coefficient of variation was calculated for the facial features extracted from frontal and profile images. Results The coefficient of variation was less than 10% in most of the facial features except the upper lip, trichion, and chins related features. Conclusions It was confirmed that the coefficient of variation was small in most of the features which enables the objective and reliable analysis of face. However, some features showed the low reliability because the location of facial landmarks related to them is ambiguous. In order to solve the problem, a clear basis for the location discussion is required.
In today's organization, measurement plays a crucial role in helping improve process or quality. In this paper, we review the measurement error study, classical gauge repeatability and reproducibility study, and designed experiment suited for the determination of the measurement capability. Measurement error study is very simple to use but is rather crude. Hence, it should be used as a preliminary study to determine whether further study is necessary. Classical gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) study is the most common technique for evaluation of gauge capability. It calculates a percentage that relates the repeatability, reproducibility, and overall R&R to the specification range for the parameter measured. Hence, the individual repeatability and reproducibility statistics will indicate the area on which to concentrate. However, GR&R study only gives a point estimate of each component, which leaves a room for improvement. It is always good to integrate the use of control charts to ascertain the statistical stability of the measurement process. The tools of statistical experimental design are available for a comprehensive design and analysis of the measurement process. Hence, in this paper, we present gauge capability analysis as an experimental design problem and compare it with the classical GR&R study.
Biological and chemical assays(e.g., clinical tests for medical diagnosis) are needed to handle small liquid volume with high accuracy and high reliability. Many micro-dispensing systems using various actuation methods have been developed and applied. In this research, we confirm repeatability of the cartridge-type dispensing system with various measuring methods for guarantee of an acceptable reliability. We systematically examine the dispensed volume variation and dispense rate during 500,000 shots of sequential actuation. Using the same method, we confirm the repeatability of dispensed volume while varying operating conditions and design parameter(i.e., outlet size) of the dispensing system. Also, we examine the consistency of the dispensed volume of droplet while varying the operating pressures. Furthermore, we repeatedly measure differences between an actual dispensed volume and a target volume. According to our results, it is expected that the stable and reliable performance of our dispensing system can effectively be used in various applications containing bio-solutions.
Background: This study aimed to examine the repeatability of hamstring strength during maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) and to examine the sex difference. Design: Quasi-experiment design. Methods: The study recruited 23 healthy young individuals as participants. Hamstring flexibility was measured before and after MVCs by active knee extension test. Five trials of MVCs were performed, and hip extension forces were measured using a strain gauge during MVCs. Repeatability was confirmed by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and coefficient of variation, and the difference between male and female participants was confirmed by independent samples t-test. Results: The forces measured during MVCs were significantly different between men and women over five trials. We observed the minimum and maximum force production at the first and fifth trial of MVCs in both men and women. Excellent to moderate reliability of the hamstring strength during MVCs was found in men (ICC range, 0.70-0.98) and women (ICC range, 0.66-0.90). There was no significant difference in hamstring flexibility between men and women. Conclusion: In clinical settings, we recommend excluding the first trial of MVCs in both men and women. Additionally, performing at least three trials of MVCs would be useful to improve the reliability of the baseline measures in women.
