PURPOSE. To evaluate the effect of surface treatments and repair materials on the shear bond strength and to measure the fracture toughness of CAD/CAM provisional restoration materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four CAD/CAM (3D printing: Nextdent C&B and ZMD-1000B Temporary, CAD/CAM resin block: Yamahachi PMMA disk and Huge PMMA block) and four conventional (monometacrylate: Jet and Alike, dimetacrylate: Luxatemp and Protemp 4) materials were selected to fabricate disk-shaped specimens and divided into six groups according to surface treatment (n=10). CAD/CAM materials were repaired with Jet or Luxatemp, while conventional materials were repaired with their own materials. The shear bond strength was measured by using universal testing machine. Ten rectangular column-shaped specimens for each material were fabricated to measure the fracture toughness by single edge v notched beam technique. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way ANOVA. RESULTS. The highest shear bond strength of CAD/CAM materials was achieved by SiC paper + sandblasting. It was also accomplished when repairing 3D printing materials with Luxatemp, and repairing CAD/CAM resin blocks with Jet. Yamahachi PMMA disk showed the highest fracture toughness. Nextdent C&B showed the lowest fracture toughness value but no statistically significant difference from Alike and Luxatemp (P>.05). CONCLUSION. In order to successfully repair the CAD/CAM provisional restoration, mechanical surface treatment and appropriate repair material according to the CAD/CAM material type should be selected. The CAD/CAM provisional materials have proper mechanical properties for clinical use as compared to conventional materials.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the application method of universal adhesives on the shear bond strength (SBS) of repaired composites, applied with different thicknesses. Materials and Methods: The 84 specimens (Filtek Z350 XT) were prepared, stored in distilled water for a week and thermocycled (5,000 cycles, 5℃ to 55℃). They were roughened using 400-grit sandpapers and etched with phosphoric acid. Then, specimens were equally divided into 2 groups; Single Bond Universal (SU) and Prime&Bond Universal (PB). Each group was subdivided into 3 subgroups according to application methods (n = 14); UC: 1 coat + uncuring, 1C: 1 coat + curing, 3C: 3 coats + curing. After storage of the repaired composite for 24 hours, specimens were subjected to the SBS test and the data were statistically analyzed by 2-way analysis of variance and independent t-tests. Specimens were examined with a stereomicroscope to analyze fracture mode and a scanning electron microscope to observe the interface. Results: Adhesive material was a significant factor (p = 0.001). Bond strengths with SU were higher than PB. The highest strength was obtained from the 1C group with SU. Bonding in multiple layers increased adhesive thicknesses, but there was no significant difference in SBS values (p = 0.255). Failure mode was predominantly cohesive in old composites. Conclusions: The application of an adequate bonding system plays an important role in repairing composite resin. SU showed higher SBS than PB and the additional layers increased the adhesive thickness without affecting SBS.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of delayed time, surface treatment, and repair materials on repair of bis-acryl composite resin through comparison of shear bond strength and to evaluate the utility of bis-acryl composite resin repair using polymethyl methacrylate resin. Materials and Methods: A total of 90 bis-acryl composite resin specimens were fabricated and classified into 9 test groups, each of 10 pieces according to delayed time, surface treatment and repair material. The shear bond strength of each specimen was measured using a universal testing machine immediately after fabrication and analyzed using a statistical analysis program (IBM SPSS statistics 20). After the shear bond strength measurement, the fracture surface of the specimen was observed. Results: The highest shear bond strength ($17.54{\pm}3.14MPa$) was observed in the experimental group bonded immediately with a light-curing flowable composite resin using a bonding agent. Conclusion: When repairing bis-acryl composite resin, it is necessary to consider whether to remake according to the delayed time. For effective repair, it is desirable to consider appropriate materials and surface treatment methods according to the site or purpose of use.
PURPOSE. This study evaluated the color stabilities of two computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) blocks and a nanofill composite resin and the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) between the materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twelve specimens of 4 mm height were prepared for both Lava Ultimate (L) and Vita Enamic (E) CAD/CAM blocks. Half of the specimens were thermocycled (10,000 cycle, 5° to 55℃) for each material. Both thermocycled and non-thermocycled specimens were surface treated with one of the three different methods (Er,Cr:YSGG laser, bur, or control). For each surface treatment group, one of the thermocycled and one of non-thermocycled specimens were restored using silane (Ceramic Primer II), universal adhesive (Single Bond Universal), and nanofill composite resin of 4-mm height (Filtek Ultimate). The other specimens were restored with the same procedure without using silane. For each group, 1 × 1 × 8 mm bar specimens were prepared using a microcutting device. Bar specimens were thermocycled (10,000 cycle, 5° to 55℃) and microtensile tests were performed. Staining of the materials in coffee solution was also compared using a spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, t-test and post-hoc Scheffe tests. RESULTS. µTBS were found similar between the thermocycled and non-thermocycled groups (P>.05). The highest µTBS (20.818 MPa) was found in the non-thermocycled, bur-ground, silane-applied E group. Silane increased µTBS at some E groups (P<.05). Composite resin specimens showed more staining than CAD/CAM blocks (P<.05). CONCLUSION. CAD/CAM blocks can be repaired with composite resins after proper surface treatments. Using silane is recommended in repair process. Color differences may be shown between CAD/CAM blocks and the nanofill composite after a certain time period.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of various surface treatments (ST) on the shear bond strength of resin composite to three bilayer dental ceramics made by CAD/CAM and two veneering ceramics. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three different bilayer dental ceramics and two different veneering ceramics were used (Group A: IPS e.max CAD+IPS e.max Ceram; Group B: IPS e.max ZirCAD+IPS e.max Ceram, Group C: Vita Suprinity+Vita VM11; Group D: IPS e.max Ceram; Group E: Vita VM11). All groups were divided into eight subgroups according to the ST. Then, all test specimens were repaired with a nano hybrid resin composite. Half of the test specimens were subjected to thermocycling procedure and the other half was stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$. Shear bond strength tests for all test specimens were carried out with a universal testing machine. RESULTS. There were statistically significant differences among the tested surface treatments within the all tested fracture types (P<.005). HF etching showed higher bond strength values in Groups A, C, D, and E than the other tested ST. However, bonding durability of all the surface-treated groups were similar after thermocycling (P>.00125). CONCLUSION. This study revealed that HF etching for glass ceramics and sandblasting for zirconia ceramics were adequate for repair of all ceramic restorations. The effect of ceramic type exposed on the fracture area was not significant on the repair bond strength of resin composites to different ceramic types.
Non-metallic composite overwrap repair methods utilize resin based fiber-reinforced composite materials, which have higher specific strength to weight ratio and stiffness, superior corrosion and fatigue resistance, and substantially reduced weight when compared to carbon steel. Non-metallic repair methods/systems can allow desired functional properties to be achieved at a respectable economic advantage. For example, non-metallic composite repair systems have at least a 50 year design stress of 20 ksi and approximately 25% of the short term tensile strength of fiberglass. For these systems, the contribution of the repaired steel to the load carrying capability need not be considered, as the strength of the repair itself is sufficient to carry the internal pressure. Worldwide experience in the Oil & Gas industry confirms the integrity, durability, inherent permanency, and cost-effectiveness of non-metallic composite repair or rehabilitation systems. A case study of a recent application of a composite repair system in Saudi Aramco resulted in savings of 37% for offshore subsea line and 75% for onshore above grade pipeline job. Maintaining a pipeline can be costly but it is very small in comparison to the cost of a failure. Pipeline proponents must balance maintenance costs with pipeline integrity. The purpose is not just to save money but also to attain a level of safety that is acceptable. This technology involves the use of an epoxy polymer resin based, fiber-reinforced composite sleeve system for rehabilitation and /or repair pipelines.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the microshear bond strength (${\mu}SBS$) of different universal adhesive systems applied to hybrid computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) restorative materials repaired with a composite resin. Materials and Methods: Four types of CAD-CAM hybrid block materials-Lava Ultimate (LA), Vita Enamic (VE), CeraSmart (CS), and Shofu Block HC (SH)-were used in this study, in combination with the following four adhesive protocols: 1) control: porcelain primer + total etch adhesive (CO), 2) Single Bond Universal (SB), 3) All Bond Universal (AB), and 4) Clearfil Universal Bond (CU). The ${\mu}SBS$ of the composite resin (Clearfil Majesty Esthetic) was measured and the data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test, with the level of significance set at p < 0.05. Results: The CAD-CAM block type and block-adhesive combination had significant effects on the bond strength values (p < 0.05). Significant differences were found between the following pairs of groups: VE/CO and VE/AB, CS/CO and CS/AB, VE/CU and CS/CU, and VE/AB and CS/AB (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The ${\mu}SBS$ values were affected by hybrid block type. All tested universal adhesive treatments can be used as an alternative to the control treatment for repair, except the AB system on VE blocks (the VE/AB group). The ${\mu}SBS$ values showed variation across different adhesive treatments on different hybrid CAD-CAM block types.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatments on the shear bond strength between new and old composites. Circular cavities prepared on the center of acrylic resin mold and the prepared cavities were filled with composite resin. They randomly assigned into control group and 8 groups according to the difference in surface treatments of old composites; Control group: no surface treatment, Group 1: surface treated with #120 SiC paper & bonding agent, Group 2: surface treated with #400 SiC paper & bonding agent, Group 3: surface treated with #120 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$ & bonding agent, Group 4: surface treated with #400 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$ & bonding agent, Group 5: surface treated with #120 SiC paper, primer & bonding agent, Group 6: surface treated with #400 SiC paper, primer & bonding agent, Group 7: surface treated with #120 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$, primer & bonding agent, Group 8: surface treated with #400 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$, primer & bonding agent. New composites were applicated on the old composites of experimental groups. The shear bond strengths for the experimental specimen were measured and the results were analyzed by using one way ANOVA. The observations of surface morphology after SiC paper roughening and debonded surface morphology after shear bond strength test were done by SEM. The results were as follows; 1. Shear bond strengths for specimens roughened with #120 SiC paper matching with the particle size of coarse diamond bur were significantly higher than those for the specimens with #400 SiC paper(P<0.05). By SEM, the surface of the specimens roughened with #120 SiC paper was more irregular than the specimens with #400 SiC paper. 2. Shear bond strengths for specimens treated with 32% $H_3PO_4$ etchant, primer, bonding resin were significantly higher than those for specimens treated with 32% $H_3PO_4$ and bonding resin(P<0.05). 3. Shear bond strengths for the specimens treated with 32% $H_3PO_4$ etchant and bonding resin were significantly higher than those for specimens treated with only bonding resin(P<0.05). There was no remarkable change of surface morphology after 32% $H_3PO_4$ etching. 4. It was possible to observe mixed fracture patterns (the cohesive fracture of old composite and the adhesive fracture between old and new composite) in the specimens roughened with #120 SiC paper, but almost adhesive fracture in the specimens roughened with #400 SiC paper.

Almost all concrete structures have many inevitable cracks for various reasons such as drying shrinkage, heat liberation of cement, fatigues or repeating loads and movements. Conventionally, they are repaired with epoxy materials. The Epoxy resins used by repair materials are different from properties of the base concrete materials such as thermal and mechanical properties - thermal expansion coefficients, bending strength. And the epoxy resin cannot release the water inside the concrete structure and cause corrosion of the steel bars. In this study, before the experiment got launched, we had analyzed cement and slag. Then We blended the two grades of ultra fine cement using high blaine cement and slag. And the cement slurry was produced by water and suprplasticizer to each blended ultra fine cement in various conditions. The slurry produced by each conditions was evaluated with flow properties such as viscosity, dropping time, segregation and observation of dry surface after injection.

As the reinforced concrete structures are aged, repair and rehabilitation materials and techniques have ben developed. However, most of the repair materials and methods are imported from abroad and theoretical study and repairing techniques are also not well established yet. A specification for quality of repair materials should be established, in order to secure the stability and to improve the serviceability of the repaired structures. In this study, long term properties of repair materials such as thermal expansion coefficient, hardening shrinkage, creep, and chemical resistance have been tested. The material properties shows to be affected many actors such as curing period, temperatures, relative humidity, and etc. The repair material should be selected by considering the cause and shape of the defects, mix properties, workability, quality control of construction, and etc.
