Epoxy resins are gradually becoming some of the most important and versatile polymers in modem civil engineering. Because epoxy resins have some unigue properties, such as toughness, versatility of viscosity and curing conditions, good handling characteristics, high adhesive strength, inertness, low shrinkage compared to most other thermo-setting resins and concrete, and resistance to chemicals, they have found many applications in construction castings, repair materials, road or bridge deck pavements, coatings, and as structural or non structural adhesives. In this applications, epoxy resins are widely used for polymer concretes, grouting materials, injection glues, and sealants. In this paper, characteristics of deformation of repair material after repaired have been investigated by viscosity of repair material and the width of crack. It is believed that flexural strength of epoxy resin with low viscosity is high because tensile strength is high and elongation at break is low, fracture energy is low.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of three different retention forms on the bond strength when complete denture repaired. Total 75 samples were divided into 3 groups(Dove-tail form, bevel form, rabbit form). The completed resin samples were compressed in Instron Testing Machine until gross fracture occurred to examine the effect on the bond strength of resin base. The results of the experiment were as follows : 1. The difference of bond strength according to three retention forms were not statistically significant(P>0.05). 2. Dove-tail form was strongest to bond strength among the three retention forms.
PURPOSE. To explore the influence of different surface conditionings on surface changes and the influence of surface treatments and aging on the bond strengths of composites to non-aged and aged resin nanoceramics. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Rectangular-shaped non-aged and aged (5000 thermocycles) resin nanoceramic specimens (Lava Ultimate) (n=63, each) were divided into 3 groups according to surface treatments (untreated, air abrasion, or silica coating) (n=21). The surface roughness was measured and scanning electron microscopy was used to examine one specimen from each group. Afterwards, the specimens were repaired with a composite resin (Filtek Z550) and half were sent for aging (5000 thermocycles, n=10, each). Shear bond strengths and failure types were evaluated. Roughness and bond strength were investigated by two- and three-way analysis of variance, respectively. The correlation between the roughness and bond strength was investigated by Pearson's correlation test. RESULTS. Surface-treated samples had higher roughness compared with the untreated specimens (P=.000). For the non-aged resin nanoceramic groups, aging was a significant factor for bond strength; for the aged resin nanoceramic groups, surface treatment and aging were significant factors. The failures were mostly adhesive after thermal cycling, except in the non-aged untreated group and the aged air-abraded group, which had mostly mixed failures. Roughness and bond strength were positively correlated (P=.003). CONCLUSION. Surface treatment is not required for the repair of non-aged resin nanoceramic; for the repair of aged resin nanoceramic restorations, air abrasion is recommended.
Intermediate-level radioactive waste (ILW) is not subject to legal approval for cave disposal in Korea. To solve this problem, a spent resin treatment device that separates 14C-containing resin from zeolite/activated carbon and desorbs 14C through a microwave device has been developed. In this study, we evaluated the radiological safety of the operators performing repair work in the event of a failure in such a device treating 1 ton of spent resin mixture per day. Based on the safety evaluation results, it is possible to formulate a design plan that can ensure the safety of workers while developing a commercialized device. When each component of the resin treatment device can be repaired from the outside, the maximum and minimum allowable repair times are calculated as 263.2 h and 27.7 h for the 14C-detached resin storage tank and zeolite/activated carbon storage tank, respectively. For at least 6 h per quarter, the worker's annual dose limit remains within 50 mSv/year; further, over 5 years, it remained within 100 mSv. At least 6 h of repair time per quarter is considered, under conservative conditions, to verify the radiological safety of the worker during repair work within that time.

Objectives: This study evaluated microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) and short-rod fracture toughness to explain fractural behavior of repaired composite restorations according to different surface treatments. Materials and Methods: Thirty composite blocks for ${\mu}TBS$ test and sixty short-rod specimens for fracture toughness test were fabricated and were allocated to 3 groups according to the combination of surface treatment (none-treated, sand blasting, bur roughening). Each group was repaired immediately and 2 weeks later. Twenty-four hours later from repair, ${\mu}TBS$ and fracture toughness test were conducted. Mean values analyzed with two-way ANOVA / Tukey's B test ($\alpha$= 0.05) and correlation analysis was done between ${\mu}TBS$ and fracture toughness. FE-SEM was employed on fractured surface to examine the crack propagation. Results: The fresh composite resin showed higher ${\mu}TBS$ than the aged composite resin (p < 0.001). Mechanically treated groups showed higher bond strength than non-mechanically treated groups except none-treated fresh group in ${\mu}TBS$ (p < 0.05). The fracture toughness value of mechanically treated surface was higher than that of non-mechanically treated surface (p < 0.05). There was no correlation between fracture toughness and microtensile bond strength values. Specimens having high KIC showed toughening mechanism including crack deviation, microcracks and crack bridging in FE-SEM. Conclusions: Surface treatment by mechanical interlock is more important for effective composite repair, and the fracture toughness test could be used as an appropriate tool to examine the fractural behavior of the repaired composite with microtensile bond strength.

Edge notched A16061-T6 aluminum was repaired with a GFRP composite patch as a function of the number of stacking, Damage progress of specimen for tension load has been monitored by acoustic emission(AE), AE energy rate, hit rate, amplitude, waveform and 1st peak frequency distribution were analyzed. Fracture processes were classified into Al cracking, Fiber breakage, Resin cracking and Delamination. Displacement of a specimen can be divided into Region I, II and ill according to acoustic emission characteristics. Region II where the patch itself was actually fractured was focused on to clarify the AE characteristics difference for the number of stacking.
Two pieces of comb-shaped jewelry which are made of animal bones were discovered in Daeseong-dong tomb No.88 in Gimhae. Foreign material was removed from the surface of the objects using ethanol and various small instruments. Fractures or cracks were repaired using cellulose-type synthetic resin and epoxy resin. Acrylic paint was applied repaired areas to match the color and finished conservation treatment. The two comb-shaped accessories, although differing in number of teeth and thickness, were produced by using the same method. A series of fine bone pieces, shaped like comb teeth, are placed between two long bones, assuming animal ulnas, and are fastened together by tying silk thread around them several times, then by placing a coat of lacquer.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the fracture resistance of crown-root fractured teeth repaired with dual-cured composite resin and horizontal posts. 48 extracted human premolars were assigned to control group and three experimental groups. Complete crown-root fractures were experimentally induced in all control and experimental teeth. In the control group. the teeth (n=12) were bonded with resin cement and endodontically treated. Thereafter, the access cavities were sealed with dual-cured composite resin. In composite resin core-post group (n=12), the teeth were endodontically treated and access cavities were sealed with dual-cured composite resin. In addition, the fractured segments in this group were fixed using horizontal posts. In composite resin core group (n=12), the teeth were endodontically treated and the access cavities were filled with dual-cured composite resin without horizontal posts. In bonded amalgam group (n = 12), the teeth were endodontically treated and the access cavities were sealed with bonded amalgam. Experimental complete crown-root fractures were induced again on repaired control and experimental teeth. The ratio of fracture resistance to original fracture resistance was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that teeth in control and composite resin core-post group showed significantly higher resistance to re-fracture than those in amalgam core group (p < 0.05). The resistance to refracture was high in the order of composite resin - post group, control group, composite resin group and bonded amalgam group. Within the scope of this study, the use of horizontal post could be beneficial in increasing the fracture resistance of previously fractured teeth.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the flexural properties of a recently introduced urethane dimethacrylate denture base material (Eclipse) after being repaired with two different materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two repair groups and a control group consisting of 10 specimens each were generated. The ES group was repaired with auto-polymerizing polymer. The EE group was repaired with the Eclipse. The E group was left intact as a control group. A 3-point bending test device which was set to travel at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min was used. Specimens were loaded until fracture occurred and the mean displacement, maximum load, flexural modulus and flexural strength values and standard deviations were calculated for each group and the data were statistically analyzed. The results were assessed at a significance level of P<.05. RESULTS. The mean "displacement", "maximum load before fracture", flexural strength" and "flexural modulus" rates of Group E were statistically significant higher than those of Groups ES and EE, but no significant difference (P>.05) was found between the mean values of Group ES and EE. There was a statistically significant positive relation (P<.01) between the displacement and maximum load of Group ES (99.5%), Group EE (94.3%) and Group E (84.4%). CONCLUSION. The more economic and commonly used self-curing acrylic resin can be recommended as an alternative repair material for Eclipse denture bases.
