This study experimentally evaluate the bonding performance of repair and strengthening materials. It is very important problem to justify bonding properties between repair and strengthening materials and old concrete. Many previous research and investigation showed that bonding strength of reinforcing materials determines the strengthening effect and the durability of repair work. Therefore, menifestation of bonding properties and the improvement of bonding performance of repair and strengthening materials are very important. In order to improve the perforamnce of repair work, it needs to investigate the behavior of bonding materials, such as stress distribution along the bonding area and the long term performance of the material. The target repair methods are steel plate addition technique and repair mortar method, and the test parameters studied in this paper include epoxy thickness, bonding surface texture, and bonding area.
Structural strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams is becoming essential to meet the up-gradation of existing structures due to the infrastructure development. Strengthening is also essential for damaged structural element due to the adverse environmental condition and other distressing factors. This article reviews the state of the field on repair, retrofitting and rehabilitation techniques for the strengthening of RC beams. Strengthening of RC beams using various promising techniques such as externally bonded steel plates, concrete jacketing, fibre reinforced laminates or sheets, external prestressing/external bar reinforcement technique and ultra-high performance concrete overlay have been extensively investigated for the past four decades. The primary objective of this article is to discuss investigations on various strengthening techniques over the years. Various parameters that have been discussed include the flexural capacity, shear strength, failure modes of various strengthening techniques and advances in techniques over the years. Firstly, background information on strengthening, including repair, retrofitting, and rehabilitation of RC beams is provided. Secondly, the existing strengthening techniques for reinforced concrete beams are discussed. Finally, the relative comparisons and limitations in the existing techniques are presented.

The main purpose of this study is to develop a Sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method, which is a new technique for strengthening the existing concrete structures by mixing carbon or glass shot fibers and the epoxy or vinyl ester resins with high-speed compressed air in open air and randomly spraying the mixture onto the concrete surface. At present, the Sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method using the epoxy resin has not been fully discussed. In this study, a series of experiments are carried out to evaluate the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear concret beams strengthened with the Sprayed FRP method. The results revealed that the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear specimens are similar, compared to those of the FRP sheet.

In this study, a numerical analysis that can effectively predict the effect of strengthening of cracked flexural members is developed using axial deformation link elements. Concrete and interface between concrete and repair material are considered as quasi-brittle material. Reinforcing bars and reinforcing steel plates are assumed to perform as elasto-plastic materials. Unloading behavior of axial deformation link element is implemented. In the developed numerical model, a flexural member is intentionally cracked by pre-loading, then, the cracked member is repaired using extra elements, and reloaded. The results from analysis of repaired flexural members agrees well with available experiment results. Also, it was shown that the effect of strengthening and the change of failure mode with respect to the time for strengthening and thickness of repair materials. Based on the results, it was determined that the developed numerical model has a good agreement for determining failure modes and effect of strengthening in cracked flexural members. By utilizing the developed numerical analysis, the time and dimension of external strengthening in an existing cracked flexural member with predition of failure mechanism can be determined.
Recently, many strengthening methods are developed to repair damaged structures, especially, steel plate or carbon fiber sheet bonding methods are widely used. For the bonding methods, the strengthening materials are bonded when the original structure is under loading, with causes the difference of initial stresses between original member and bonded material. However, current design method or theory, which mostly depends on ultimately strength design, cannot account the difference of initial stresses between members, and it disregards the reduction of nominal strength. In this study, a new strengthening design theory and program which can account the difference of initial stresses are developed, and applied to the case when a structure in service is repaired. In order to verify the validity of the theory and the program, a test result is referred and compare with the results and it is showed that the calculated values are almost same as the referred data and finally proved that the program is reliable. The results showed that the amount of strengthening material depends on the status of damages of structure, and the nominal strength is reduced depending on the degree of damages.

This paper reports new repair and strengthening mathod using improved material. This mathod have two type according to covering thickness of reinforcement. One type is near surface mounted FRP rod. Anther type is overay. Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) materials has become very popular in recent years. FRP material used to rehabilitate many types of structures with superior characteristics such as high strength and stiffness and corrosion resistance. This strengthening mathod were used FRP rod which have better bond and shear strangth than current FRP rod. Development of FRP rod due to 3-D winding system. In addition, Ductile hybrid FRP has a certain plastic deformation and an elongation greater than 3% at maximum load is usually required for steel reinforcement in concrete structures. Moerover this mathod can be effective repair of base concrete by sprayed polymer mortar.

In order to investigate the material property of Sprayed FRP, this study carried out tensile tests of the material specimens which are changed with the combinations of various variables such as the length of shot fiber and mixture ratio of shot fiber and resin. These variables are set to have the material strength equal to one layer of the FRP sheet. As a result, the optimal length of glass and carbon shot fibers were derived into 3.8cm, and the optimal mixture ratio was also deriver into 1:2 from each variable. And also, the thickness of Sprayed FRP to have the strength equal to one layer of FRP sheet was finally calculated.
This paper presents the failure mode and strengthening design of reinforced concrete slab strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) grid. Parameters involved in this experimental study are FRP grid reinforcement quantity, repair mortar thickness, the presence of anchor, and strengthening in compression. In this study, there are different failure types with increasing the CFRP grid strengthening reinforcement. On the low strengthening level, CFRP grid in repair mortar cover ruptures. On the moderate strengthening level, there is a debonding shear failure in the interface of carbon FRP grid because of the excessive shear deformation. On the high strengthening level, diagonal shear failure occurs. With the increasing of FRP grid reinforcement, the strengthening effect increased, but the ductility decreased. By limiting the strengthening level, it can be achieved to prevent shear failure which result in sudden loss in the resisting load capacity. CFRP rupture failure is desirable, because CFRP ruptured concrete slab keeps the same load capacity and ductility haying before strengthening even after failure. Finally, design guideline and procedure are given for strengthening of concrete slab with CFRP grid.
Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) pectoralis minor stretching and lower trapezius strengthening exercise on posture change, shoulder range of motion (ROM), and pain in rotator cuff repair patients with a rounded shoulder posture (RSP). Methods: Following baseline measurements, the subjects (n = 25) with rotator cuff repair were randomized into two groups: the PNF group (n = 13), which engaged in PNF pectoralis minor stretching and lower trapezius strengthening exercise, and the control group (n = 12), which received traditional physical therapy. Each group participated in the intervention five times per week for two weeks. The RSP values for the postural changes, flexion and abduction ROM, and visual analogue scales (VASs) of both groups were recorded at both pre- and post-intervention. In addition, before and after the intervention, a paired t-test was conducted to compare the within-group changes and an independent t-test to compare the between-group differences. Results: After the two-week intervention, both groups experienced significantly decreased RSP and VAS values (p < 0.05) and a significantly increased ROM (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the PNF group showed greater improvements in RSP, ROM, and VAS than the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that PNF pectoralis minor stretching and lower trapezius strengthening exercise reduce posture and shoulder pain and enhance ROM in rotator cuff repair patients with RSP.
