DEA를 이용한 동절기 도로제설자재 운영 효율성 평가 (Evaluation of Efficiency of Snow Removal Operation Resources using Data Envelopment Analysis)

  • PURPOSES : This study evaluates the efficiency of snow removal operation resources using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The results of this study can help decision-making strategies, especially for resource allocation for snow removal works on national highways. METHODS : First, regional road management offices (DMUs) for efficiency evaluation were set up, and a database (for years 2012-2016) for analysis was formed. Second, DEA was carried out by selecting input and output variables based on the constructed database. Lastly, based on the results of the DEA, the efficiency of each regional road management office was evaluated. In addition, the potential for future improvement was determined. RESULTS : The results showed that there was a large variation in efficiency of snow removal operation resources by regional offices. CONCLUSIONS : The results of this study imply that the evaluation of efficiency for snow removal operation resources is important when decisions related to snow-removal strategies are made by road management offices.

광산화시스템을 이용한 염색폐수의 유기물 처리효율 및 잔류미생물의 독성 평가 (Organic Removal Efficiency and Toxicity Evaluation of Persistent Microorganism from Dye Wastewater Treatment using a Photooxidation system)

  • The removal efficiency of organic compounds and the toxicity evaluation of microorganism have been studied in dye wastewater treatment using $UV/TiO_2$ and $UV/H_2O_2$ photooxidation system. Sample waters tested in this work were raw dye wastewater and dye wastewater treated in $UV/TiO_2$ and $UV/H_2O_2$ photooxidation system respectively. Total organic carbon(TOC) removal rate was 50% in $UV/TiO_2$ process and 80% in $UV/H_2O_2$ process. It has been investigated with colony counting agar method and paper disk method whether the type of treatment process has affected the microorganism growth. In the raw wastewater, more than four types of microorganisms have survived. But, little of microorganisms were alive at TOC removal rate of 50% in $UV/TiO_2$ system. In contrast to that, two types of microorganisms were found at TOC removal rate of 80% in $UV/H_2O_2$ system.

다공성 경량골재 및 순환골재를 이용한 비점오염원 저감시설의 처리효율 평가 (Evaluation of the Non-point Source Treatment Facility using the porous lightweight aggregate and the recycled aggregate)

  • This study intends to evaluate the efficiency of non-point source reduction technique by using the porous lightweight and recycled aggregate which microorganism is seeded. In case of infiltration velocity 30~70 mm/hr in high concentration of influent, it is indicated that SS was 40~94%, COD 44~91%, BOD 4~91%, TN 1.2~66%, TP 7~70% of removal efficiency. Removal efficiency is good in infiltration velocity 30 > 50 > 70㎜/hr order. Therefore, the non-point source treatment facility filled with lightweight and recycled aggregate using microbial seeding shows higher removal efficiency than a conventional sand and gravel. We confirm that the function and efficiency are improved significantly and applied to treat non-point sources.

철 코팅 규사의 인산이온 제거 효율 평가 연구 (A study on the evaluation of phosphate removal efficiency using Fe-coated silica sand)

  • Phosphorus is one of the limiting nutrients for the growth of phytoplankton and algae and is therefore one of leading causes of eutrophication. Most phosphorous in water is present in the form of phosphates. Different technologies have been applied for phosphate removal from wastewater, such as physical, chemical precipitation by using ferric, calcium or aluminum salts, biological, and adsorption. Adsorption is one of efficient method to remove phosphates in wastewater. To find the optimal media for phosphate removal, physical characteristics of media was analysed, and the phosphate removal efficiency of media (silica sand, slag, zeolite, activated carbon) was also investigated in this study. Silica sand showed highest relative density and wear rate, and phosphate removal efficiency. Silica sand removed about 36% of phosphate. To improve the phosphate removal efficiency of silica sand, Fe coating was conducted. Fe coated silica sand showed 3 times higher removal efficiency than non-coated one.

Comparison of Low Concentration and High Concentration Arsenic Removal Techniques and Evaluation of Concentration of Arsenic in Ground Water: A Case Study of Lahore, Pakistan

  • The main focus of this study was the evaluation of arsenic concentration in the ground water of Lahore at different depth and application of different mitigation techniques for arsenic removal. Twenty four hours of solar oxidation gives 90% of arsenic removal as compared to 8 hr. or 16 hr. Among oxides, calcium oxide gives 96% of As removal as compared to 93% by lanthanum oxide. Arsenic removal efficiency was up to 97% by ferric chloride, whereas 95% by alum. Activated alumina showed 99% removal as compared to 97% and 95% removal with bauxite and charcoal, respectively. Elemental analysis of adsorbents showed that the presence of phosphate and silica can cause a reduction of arsenic removal efficiency by activated alumina, bauxite and charcoal. This study has laid a foundation for further research on arsenic in the city of Lahore and has also provided suitable techniques for arsenic removal.

  • Electrokinetic remediation was studied for the removal of toxic heavy metals from tailing soils. This study emphasized the dependency of removal efficiency upon heavy metal speciation, as demonstrated by different extraction methods (sequential extraction, total digestion, and 0.1 N HC1 extraction). The tailing soils examined showed different physicochemical characteristics, in view of initial pH, particle size distribution, and major mineral constituents, and contained high concentrations of target metal contaminants in various forms. The electrokinetic removal efficiency of heavy metals was significantly influenced by their partitioning prior to treatment, and by the pHs of the tailing soils. The mobile and weakly bound fractions of heavy metals, such as exchangeable fraction, were easily removed by electrokinetic treatment (more than 90% in removal efficiency), whereas immobile and strongly bound fractions, such as organically bound and residual fractions, were not effectively removed (less than 20% in removal efficiency).

BDD 전극을 이용한 축산폐수 처리의 적용성 평가 (Evaluation of the Applicability of Livestock Wastewater Treatment using Boron-Doped Diamond (BDD) Electrodes)

  • In this study, we evaluated the treatment efficiency of livestock wastewater by altering the current density using boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes. As the current density was adjusted from 10 to 35 mA/cm2, the removal efficiency of organic matter increased from 22.2 to 71.5%. Similar to that of organic matter, the removal efficiency of color increased with increasing current density up to 85.7%, indicating a higher removal efficiency for color than that of organic matter. The removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen increased from 14.6 to 53.3% as the current density increased, but it was lower than that of organic matter. In addition, the removal of organic matter, color, and ammonia nitrogen followed first-order reactions, according to the reaction rate analysis. The energy consumption ranged from 4.87 to 8.33 kWh/kg COD, and it was found that the organic matter removal efficiency was more efficient at high current densities. Based on various analyses, the optimal current density was 20 mA/cm2, and the corresponding energy consumption was 6.824 kWh/kg COD.

  • Inertial impaction type mist eliminators are the most effective instruments to separate mist from the gas. In this work, the effect of the horizontal chevron type mist eliminators is characterized experimentally. Droplet size distribution and evaluation of removal efficiency of the chevron type mist eliminators at different gas flows were investigated using an aerosol particle size analyzer and a portable aerosol spectrometer, respectively. The experimental investigations showed that the mist removal efficiency in these instruments is dependent in the droplet size, and the pressure drop is nil.

  • The purpose of this study is to reprocess Waste-LCD(Liquid Crystal Display), to widely increase specific surface-area by foaming agent in the process of reprocessing and to use as a substrate of water treatment which is increased the ability of biological treatment, as well as to control non-point source pollutants produced by surface run off during rainfall with using this substrate, and to improve water quality of public watershed as developing substrate for water treatment to be able to purify second treated water which is exhausted at the wastewater treatment plant. The average removal efficiency of Waste-LCD that using the foaming technology was SS 71.2%, BOD 55.7%, COD 58.4%, T-N 29.5% and T-P was 50.3%. Almost Media, early stage showed low removal efficiency of SS and BOD. However, it became high when the microorganism adhered the Media. The variation of SS removal efficiency was high by inflow concentration of SS. The reason for the Media 4 showed high SS removal efficiency is that it has wide specific surface-area, and also it has a pore. All in all, it shows floating matter treatment ability not only inside but it also works outside of the substrate.

분극곡선 측정을 통한 전해부상조의 설계인자 평가 (Evaluation on Design Factors of Electrolytic Flotation Reactor by Measuring Polarization Curve)

  • This study was carried out to obtain the optimum design factors for an eletrolytric flotation reactor. When the effluent of the leachate treatment facility was treated under the condition of 10 volts, 30 minutes, at the Al-Al electrode system; COD removal efficiency was 45%, and total phosphorus removal efficiency was 98%. The high removal efficiency was caused by the fact that phosphate was removed by leaching $Al^{3+}$ from two electrodes. The leachate containing high ammonium nitrogen concentration was treated by a batch test under the condition of 60 minutes reaction time and added chloride ion; ammonium nitrogen removal efficiency was 89%. This high efficiency was affected by added chloride ion to wastewater. To find the optimum current density and voltage of the leachate containing chloride ion (ratio of $Cl^-/NH_4-N$ is 11) a electrochemical polarization curve was used. These values were found to be $4.5mA/cm^2$ and about 2.1 V, respectively. When C-Al electrode system was used at a batch test, the total nitrogen removal efficiency was increased by 1.8 to 3.3 times, compared to Al-Al electrode system due to high $Cl_2$ gas production.
