  • On the basis of comprehensive analysis and summarization of the image fusion algorithms provided by PCI Geomatica software, deficiencies in image fusion processing functions of this software are put forwarded in this paper. This limitation could be improved by further developing PCI Geomatica on the user’ side. Five effective algorithms could be added into PCI Geomatica. In this paper, the detailed description of how to customize and further develop PCI Geomatica by using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, PCI SDK Kit and GDB technique is also given. Through this way, the remote sensing imagery fusion functions of PCI Geomatica software can be extended.

  • An approach for quickly updating GIS building data using high resolution remotely sensed data is proposed in this paper. High resolution remotely sensed data could be aerial photographs, satellite images and airborne laser scanning data. Data from different types of sensors are integrated in building extraction. Based on the extracted buildings and the outdated GIS database, the change-detection-template can be automatically created. Then, GIS building data can be fast updated by semiautomatically processing the change-detection-temp late. It is demonstrated that this approach is quick, effective and applicable.

  • The usual technique of correction and positioning of film image of RS require enough control points to provide the geographic coordinate. Some distortion and error caused by earth curvature and terrain and photograph tilt can't be eliminated by these ways. In this paper a set of technique of systemic correction and positioning of remote sensing image base on orbit parameter is described, some questions in its realization and their solvent also included.

  • Surveying related papers and books presented and published since 1957 in Korea are investigated and gathered, and the list by the topics of the papers is prepared. And changes in the topics of surveying related researches are studied through the changes in the titles of the presented papers. The fields of general surveying and photogrammetry have been doing their role to lead surveying researches since 1957, and those of Geodesy, Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS are rapidly growing as advanced fields. Especially GIS is a widespreading field as being used in many socio-environment parts, recently gets a big attentions by the National GIS Project. GPS and Remote Sensing have contributed to make the surveying area an advanced technology by employing newly developed technigues to GPS receivers and satellite imagery.

  • While hyperspectral data are very rich in information, their processing poses several challenges such as computational requirements, noise removal and relevant information extraction. In this paper, the application of advanced scale-space filtering to selected hyperspectral bands was investigated. In particular, a pre-processing tool, consisting of anisotropic diffusion and morphological leveling filtering, has been developed, aiming to an edge-preserving smoothing and simplification of hyperspectral data, procedures which are of fundamental importance during feature extraction and object detection. Two scale space parameters define the extent of image smoothing (anisotropic diffusion iterations) and image simplification (scale of morphological levelings). Experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the developed scale space filtering for the enhancement and smoothing of hyperspectral remote sensing data and their advantage against watershed over-segmentation problems and edge detection.

  • Automatic land use and land cover change (LUCC) detection via remotely sensed imagery has a wide application in the area of LUCC research, nature resource and environment monitoring and protection. Under the condition that one time (T1) data is existed land use and land cover maps, and another time (T2) data is remotely sensed imagery, how to detect change automatically is still an unresolved issue. This paper developed a land use and land cover class knowledge guided method for automatic change detection under this situation. Firstly, the land use and land cover map in T1 and remote sensing images in T2 were registered and superimposed precisely. Secondly, the remotely sensed knowledge database of all land use and land cover classes was constructed based on the unchanged parcels in T1 map. Thirdly, guided by T1 land use and land cover map, feature statistics for each parcel or pixel in RS images were extracted. Finally, land use and land cover changes were found and the change class was recognized through the automatic matching between the knowledge database of remote sensing information of land use & land cover classes and the extracted statistics in that parcel or pixel. Experimental results and some actual applications show the efficiency of this method.

  • China's Mapping Satellite-1, developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), was launched in three years ago. The data from Mapping Satellite-1 are able to use for efficient surveying and geometric mapping application field. In this paper, we fuse the panchromatic and multispectral images of Changchun area, which are obtained from the Mapping Satellite-1, the one that is the Chinese first transmission-type three-dimensional mapping satellite. The four traditional image fusion methods, which are HPF, Mod.IHS, Panshar and wavelet transform, were used to approach for effectively fusing Mapping Satellite-1 remote sensing data. Subsequently we assess the results with some commonly used methods, which are known a subjective qualitative evaluation and quantitative statistical analysis approach. Consequently, we found that the wavelet transform remote sensing image fusion is the optimal in the degree of distortion, the ability of performance of details and image information availability among four methods. To further understand the optimal methods to fuse Mapping Satellite-1 images, an additional study is necessary.
