  • We design, implement, and evaluate a user-level ad hoc network routing protocol on the COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) mobile devices. In situations such as disaster recovery, emergency communication between mobile devices is necessary. For wide deployability and usability of such a system, we design and implement the networking protocols on the user level instead of modifying the kernel of mobile devices. In order to support reliable data transfer in high mobility scenarios, we selected to implement AODV (Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) as the routing protocol and TCP as the transport layer protocol. With our implementation of ad hoc networking stack on COTS smartphones, we conducted experiments in various networking environments. Our experimental results show that ad hoc networking is possible in up to 12 hops in a line topology and 5 concurrent devices in a star topology.

  • An indoor environmental monitoring system using IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor network is proposed to monitor the amount of pollutant entering to the room from outside and also the amount of pollutant that is generated in indoor by the building materials itself or human activities. Small-size, low-power wireless sensor node and low power electrochemical sensor board is designed to measure the condition of indoor environment in buildings such as home, offices, commercial premises and schools. In this paper, two query models, the broadcasting query protocol and flooding query protocol, were designed and programmed as a query-based routing protocol in wireless sensor network for an environment monitoring system. The flooding query routing protocol in environment monitoring is very effective as a power saving routing protocol and reliable data transmission between sensor nodes.

  • A geographical routing protocol is typically utilized for a route selection of VANET. Even if it is conceptually well adapted into VANET, message delivery tends to be unreliable with frequent network partitions, which mainly come from the inherent characteristics such as high mobility and irregular traffic density. In this paper, we deal with a method to enable reliable message delivery with reflecting the traffic density on routing decision. By concatenating the message delivery cost of each of inbetween junction section, $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ shortest paths are initially determined. When it is not possible to deliver the message on a junction on the 1st path, we utilize two novel ideas, that is, letting the message stay on the junction to find out a new relay node, and putting a replicated copy to reach via a detour path. By using the NS-2 network simulator, our method has been examined in terms of message delivery rate and delay. It shows that our method is much efficient than the other method in the low density environment, while it brings similar results in the high density environment.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new method, the CACH(Context-aware Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm in Mobile Ad-hoc Network(MANET) systems. The proposed CACH algorithm based on hybrid and clustering protocol that provide the reliable monitoring and control of a variety of environments for remote place. To improve the routing protocol in MANET, energy efficient routing protocol would be required as well as considering the mobility would be needed. The proposed analysis could help in defining the optimum depth of hierarchy architecture CACH utilize. Also, the proposed CACH could be used localized condition to enable adaptation and robustness for dynamic network topology protocol and this provide that our hierarchy to be resilient. As a result, our simulation results would show that a new method for CACH could find energy efficient depth of hierarchy of a cluster.

  • A challenge faced by smart grid systems is providing highly reliable transmissions to better serve different types of electrical applications and improve the energy efficiency of the system. Although wireless networking technologies can provide high-speed and cost-effective solutions, their performance may be impaired by various factors that affect the reliability of smart grid networks. Here, we first suggest the use of IEEE 802.11s-based wireless LAN mesh networks as high-speed wireless backbone networks for smart grid infrastructure to provide high scalability and flexibility while ensuring low installation and management costs. Thereafter, we analyze some vital problems of the IEEE 802.11s default routing protocol (named hybrid wireless mesh protocol; HWMP) from the perspective of transfer reliability, and propose appropriate solutions with a new routing method called HWMP-reliability enhancement to improve the routing reliability of 802.11s-based smart grid mesh networking. A simulation study using ns-3 was conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing scheme for an efficient and reliable support of multicast service to mobile hosts in IPv6 based networks. The purpose of this paper is to develop an algorithm to reduce both the number or multicast tree reconstruction and the multicast service disrupt time. The proposed multicast routing scheme is a hybrid method using the advantages of the bi-directional tunneling and the remote subscription proposed by the IETF Mobile IP working group. The proposed scheme satisfies the maximum tolerable transfer delay time and supports the maximum tunneling service. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance in the number of multicast tree reconstruction and the time of multicast service disrupt than the previous schemes does.

  • The analytical diffusion model is first formulated and its characteristics are critically reviewed. The flood events during the 1986-1988 flood seasons i the IHP Pyungchang Representative Basin are routed by this model and are compared with those by the kinematic wave model. The results showed that the analytical diffusion model simulates the observed flood events much better than the analytical kinematic wave model. The present model is proven to be an excellent means of taking the backwater effect due to lateral inflow or down river stage variations into consideration in channel routing of flood flows. It also requires much less effort and computing time at a desired station compared to any other reliable flood routing methods.

  • In the task of data routing in Internet of Things enabled volatile underwater environments, providing better transmission and maximizing network communication performance are always challenging. Many network issues such as void holes and network isolation occur because of long routing distances between nodes. Void holes usually occur around the sink because nodes die early due to the high energy consumed to forward packets sent and received from other nodes. These void holes are a major challenge for I-UWSANs and cause high end-to-end delay, data packet loss, and energy consumption. They also affect the data delivery ratio. Hence, this paper presents an energy efficient watchman based flooding algorithm to address void holes. First, the proposed technique is formally verified by the Z-Eves toolbox to ensure its validity and correctness. Second, simulation is used to evaluate the energy consumption, packet loss, packet delivery ratio, and throughput of the network. The results are compared with well-known algorithms like energy-aware scalable reliable and void-hole mitigation routing and angle based flooding. The extensive results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the benchmark techniques.

Mobility of MANET would require the topology change frequently compared with a static network. To improve the routing protocol in MANET, energy efficient routing protocol would be required as well as considering the mobility would be needed. In this paper, we propose a new method that the CACH(Context-aware Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm, a hybrid and clustering-based protocol that could analyze the link cost from a source node to a destination node. • Routing protocol in ad hoc mobile networking has been an active research area in recent years. However, the environments of ad hoc network tend to have vulnerable points from attacks, because ad hoc mobile network is a kind of wireless network without centralized authentication or fixed network infrastructure such as base stations. Also, existing routing protocols that are effective in a wired network become inapplicable in ad hoc mobile networks. To address these issues, several secure routing protocols have been proposed: SAODV and SRPTES. Even though our protocols are intensified security of networks than existing protocols, they can not deal fluidly with frequent changing of wireless environment. Moreover, demerits in energy efficiency are detected because they concentrated only safety routing. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient secure routing protocol for various ad hoc mobile environment. First of all, we provide that the nodes distribute security information to reliable nodes for secure routing. The nodes constitute tree-structured with around nodes for token escrow, this action will protect invasion of malicious node through hiding security information. Next, we propose multi-path routing based security level for protection from dropping attack of malicious node, then networks will prevent data from unexpected packet loss. As a result, this algorithm enhances packet delivery ratio in network environment which has some malicious nodes, and a life time of entire network is extended through consuming energy evenly.
