  • With the success of wireless technologies in consumer electronics, standard wireless technologies are envisioned for the deployment in industrial environments as well. Industrial applications involving mobile subsystems or just the desire to save cabling make wireless technologies attractive. Nevertheless, these applications often have stringent requirements on reliability and timing. In wired environments, timing and reliability are well catered for by fieldbus systems. When wireless links are included, reliability and timing requirements are significantly more difficult to meet, due to the adverse properties of the radio channels. In this paper, we thus discuss some key issues coming up in wireless fieldbus and wireless industrial communication systems.

  • The most important non-functional requirements for dependability of any Embedded Real-Time Safety Systems are safety, availability and reliability requirements. System architecture plays the primary role in achieving these requirements. Compliance with these non-functional requirements should be ensured early in the development cycle with appropriate considerations during architectural design. In this paper, we present an application of system architecture modeling for quantitative assessment of system dependability. We use probabilistic model checker (PRISM), for dependability analysis of the DTMC model derived from system architecture model. In general, the model checking techniques do not scale well for analyzing large systems, because of prohibitively large state space. It limits the use of model checking techniques in analyzing the systems of practical interest. We propose abstraction based compositional analysis methodology to circumvent this limitation. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been demonstrated using the case study involving the dependability analysis of safety system of a large Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR).

  • This paper presents a algorithm to improve accuracy and reliability in state estimation of contaminated bad data. The conventional algorithms for detection of bad data confront the problems of excessive memory requirements and long computation time. In order to overcome measurement compensation approach is proposed to reduce computation time and partitioned measurement error model has the advantage of remarkable reduction in computation time and memory requirements in estimated error computation. The proposed algorithm has been tested for IEEE sample systems, which shows its applicability to on-line power systems.

  • LTPS TFT backplanes for AM OLED displays have advantages in regard to reliability and performance compared to TFT backplanes based on amorphous silicon. However, the requirements for homogeneous laser crystallization during LTPS process are much higher than for LCD backplanes. Most important is the energy stability of the laser source. In this paper we describe a new excimer laser which meets the requirements of LTPS manufacturing process with high homogeneity.

  • There are many specific requirements in the actuation, system for high speed underwater vehicle, such as size, weights, power etc.. In this paper, a high performance compact hydraulic actuation system to satisfy such requirements was designed. The controller of the system was designed using both the conventional PID and VSC which were known to have reliability, robustness respectively. The performance analysis was done for the designed actuation system through computer simulation.

  • The performance demonstration round robin test was conducted to quantify the capability of ultrasonic inspection for in-service and to address some aspects of reliability for nondestructive evaluation. The fifteen inspection teams who employed procedures that met or exceeded ASME Sec. XI code requirements detected the piping of nuclear power plant with various cracks to evaluate the capability of detection. With data from PD-RR test, the performance of ultrasonic nondestructive inspection could be assessed using probability of length and depth sizing of cracks.

  • The Power LED is more much than 1W and appliable to lights that is different from signal LED. In this paper we investigated types of tests in reliability assessment standards on Power LED. we make comparison of that military standards, JEITA(Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) and JEDEC(Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) with RS(reliability standard). Reliability tests should be considered that informations can be obtained from requirements of a real system Therefore, The paper aided companies to criteria for reliability tests by themselves.

  • Based on the recent developments of the reliability-based structural analysis and design as well as the extending knowledge on the probabiliistic characteristics of load and resistances, the probability based design criteria have been successfully developed for many standards. Since the probabilistic characteristics depend highly on the local load and resistances, it is recognized to develop the design criterion compatible with domestic requirements. The existing optimum design methods, which are generally based on the structural theory and certain engineering experience, do not realistically consider the uncertainties of load and resistances and the basic reliability concepts. This study is directed to propose a optimum design based Expected Total Cost Minimization on P.S.C Box Girder Bridge system which could possibly replace optimum design based traditional provisions of the current code, based on the Neldel-Mead Method reliability theory.

  • As time-variant reliability approaches become increasingly used for service life prediction of the aging infrastructure, the demand for computer solution methods continues to increase. Effcient computer techniques have become well established for the reliability analysis of structural systems. Thus far, however, this is largely limited to time-invariant reliability problems. Therefore, the requirements for time-variant reliability prediction of deteriorating structural systems under time-variant loads have remained incomplete. This study presents a computer program for $\underline{REL}$iability of $\underline{T}$ime-Variant $\underline{SYS}$tems, RELTSYS. This program uses a combined technique of adaptive importance sampling, numerical integration, and fault tree analysis to compute time-variant reliabilities of individual components and systems. Time-invariant quantities are generated using Monte Carlo simulation, whereas time-variant quantities are evaluated using numerical integration. Load distribution and post-failure redistribution are considered using fault tree analysis. The strengths and limitations of RELTSYS are presented via a numerical example.
