  • We consider distribution, reliability and moment of ratio in two independent beta random variables X and Y, and reliability and $K^{th}$ moment of ratio are represented by a mathematical generalized hypergeometric function. We introduce an approximate maximum likelihood estimate(AML) of reliability and right-tail probability in the beta distribution.

  • This brief paper is an application of HALT(High Accelerated Life Test) and FA(Failure analysis) to improvement of STN LCD module. Before HALT the result of environmental test is good. So, we choose the technique of HALT to evaluate reliability. After HALT and Fa, we suggest some methods to improve reliability

  • Background: The assessment tool developed in other countries should be translated into Korean language using rigorous methodological approaches in order to be used in Korea. Because these procedures are insufficient for establishing the cross-cultural and linguistic equivalence, the need for statistical methods is raised. The Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale was translated into Korean and the content validity was verified through the back translation method, but the reliability and validity have not yet been proven by statistical methods. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale (KFAB) by statistical methods in elderly people. Methods: A total of 97 elderly adults (39 males and 58 females) participated in this study. Internal consistency of the KFAB was measured using Cronbach's alpha and an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to assess test-retest reliability between the two measurement sessions. Concurrent validity was measured by comparing the KFAB responses with the Korean version of the Berg Balance Scale (KBBS) using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Construct validity of the KFAB was measured using the exploratory factor analysis to evaluate the unidimensionality of the questionnaire. The significance level was set at ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: The internal consistency of the KFAB was found be adequate with Cronbach's alpha (.96), and test-retest reliability was excellent as evidenced by the high ICC (r=.996). Concurrent validity showed high correlation between the KFAB and KBBS (r=.89, p<.001). Construct validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis. The result from Bartlett test of sphericity was statistically significant (p<.001), and the value of Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was .93. Exploratory factor analysis revealed the existence of only one dominant factor that explained 76.43% of the variance. Conclusion: The KFAB is a reliable, valid and appropriate tool for measuring the balance functions in elderly people.

  • In this paper, we compare two methods that improve the reliability of soft output at the receiver of MIMO communications. The receiver complexity of spatially mutiplexed MIMO system is in proportion to the number of candidate vectors. Low complexity receiver techniques involving a small number of candidate vectors, provide soft output values of low reliability. In order to improve the low reliability of soft output, two previous methods can be used; the first method involves a clipping threshold, the second method uses Euclidian distance instead of squared Euclidian distance. In the paper, we address the theoretical similarity of the two methods, then we compare the two methods from the perspective of hardware implementation.

  • This study aims at improving work reliability. It proposes a way to overcome the limitations of current scheduling methods by providing a new framework, CPAM(Construction Process Analysis Model) based on the lean principles. It suggests methods which improve work reliability and production effectiveness with variability control methods. Also it suggests methods which reduce inventories of materials and equipment and WIP(Work In Process) using two techniques; Lookahead Schedule and Weekly Work Plan. The contribution of this research also includes that it assumes planning as a process of reducing uncertainty and maximizing throughput, counter-posing plan reliability to resource redundancy as alternative strategies for managing in conditions of uncertain work flow.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a sensitivity analysis of system reliability for recognizing effectiveness of changing of BD mode failures using reliability growth projection model based on NHPP. Methods: Crow extended reliability projection model (CERPM) is used to analyze the changing of two factors 1) the number of BD mode failures, 2) fix effectiveness factor (FEF) values. Results: The system reliability has increased in accordance with the number of BD mode failures and FEF values have increased. Conclusion: It is necessary to design failure modes and FEF values to supervise the reliability.

  • In this paper, we propose a reliability evaluation method considering the momentary interruptions of power distribution systems. The results of research are concentrated on two parts. One is the analytic and probabilistic reliability evaluation of power distribution system considering the momentary interruptions and the other is the reliability cost evaluation that unifies the cost of sustained and momentary interruptions. This proposed reliability cost evaluation methodology is also divided into the analytic and probabilistic approach and the time sequential Monte Carlo method is used for the probabilistic method. The proposed methods are tested using the modified RBTS (Roy Billinton Test System) form and historical reliability data of KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) system. Through the case studies, it is verified that the proposed reliability evaluation and its cost/worth assessment methodologies can be applied to the actual reliability studies.

  • Purpose: This paper will focus on the reliability technological innovation following the emergence of industry 4.0 featured by convergence, connection and complexity. In the course of the process, the concept and application of 3R (Robustness, Redundancy, Resilience) are considered along with reliability in industry 4.0. Methods: Reliability paradigm-changes are presented to meet the purpose of keeping the desired function in Industry 4.0. And the introduction of resilience, a concept compromising reliability is to be suggested. Results: The necessity of the 3R (Robustness, Redundancy, Resilience) introduction is emphasized according to reliability paradigm-changes. Conclusion: Reliability, robustness, redundancy and resilience are not mutually exclusive. Ultimately, acquiring the resilience requires robustness, redundancy and fittable maintenance procedures.
