  • This paper presents the development of laser scanner based static obstacle detection algorithm for vehicle localization on lane lost section. On urban autonomous driving, vehicle localization is based on lane information, GPS and digital map is required to ensure. However, in actual urban roads, the lane data may not come in due to traffic jams, intersections, weather conditions, faint lanes and so on. For lane lost section, lane based localization is limited or impossible. The proposed algorithm is designed to determine the lane existence by using reliability of front vision data and can be utilized on lane lost section. For the localization, the laser scanner is used to distinguish the static object through estimation and fusion process based on the speed information on radar data. Then, the laser scanner data are clustered to determine if the object is a static obstacle such as a fence, pole, curb and traffic light. The road boundary is extracted and localization is performed to determine the location of the ego vehicle by comparing with digital map by detection algorithm. It is shown that the localization using the proposed algorithm can contribute effectively to safe autonomous driving.

  • The condition of the manufacturing process in a factory should be diagnosed and maintained efficiently because any unexpected disorder in the process will be reason to decrease the efficiency of the overall system. However, if an expert experienced in this system leaves, there will be a problem for the efficient process diagnosis and maintenance, because disorder diagnosis within the process is normally dependent on the expert's experience. This paper suggests a process diagnosis using data mining based on the collected data from the coil-spring manufacturing process. The rules are generated for the relations between the attributes of the process and the output class of the product using a decision tree after selecting the effective attributes. Using the generated rules from decision tree, the condition of the current process is diagnosed and the possible maintenance actions are identified to correct any abnormal condition. Then, the appropriate maintenance action is recommended using the decision network.

  • IP Telephony service was restricted to an outgoing call and low quality since the trust domestic IP Telephony service launch of Saerome co. Ltd, in Jan. 2000. However, Interest of IP Telephony service, which is substituted for PSTN, has been highly elated because of the developed equipment softswitch and new technology. This kind of importance and marketing of VoIP are recognized to telecommunication providers. With this trend, they try to administrate customer satisfaction and invest R&D to survive in this hard competition and unexpected change. To achieve this objective, they should try to realize the searching process of the quality decision attribution (QDA). However, there is little research on the aspect of service quality of Internet telephony so far. For this, the investigator established the tangibles, the reliability, the responsibility, the assurance, the empathy, the charge with information sources as core elements. In order to examine the influence of IP Telephony service upon the attitudes toward a brand and the purchase intention.

  • In cosmetics industry, we notice that the research should be focused on developing well-being related products such as SPA, esthetique, mass-customization, organics, naturals besides inner beauty and body shaping products. These well-being related products should satisfy customers' expectation about not only concern about health but also safety, reliability, and ethos about products. In that context, the systematic way for well-being related research in cosmetics should be carried out concerning anti-aging with fat-decom-position, vitamin, polyphenol, and organics. At the same time, there are several important factors in this research like augmenting efficacy, controlling skin-absorbency, skin-adaptability, forming, stabilization of activated com-ponents, improving sustainability, and developing new materials based on dermatologic and emotional science. It should be also emphasized that recent technologies such as bio-technology, nano-technology, and natural-material-technology are the cornerstones of developing well-being products.

  • The Co-base super heat resisting alloy ECY768 is employed in gas turbine because of its high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. The prediction of fatigue life for superalloy is important for improving the efficiency. In this paper, low cycle fatigue tests are performed as variables of total strain range and temperature. The relations between strain energy density and number of cycle to failure are examined in order to predict the low cycle fatigue life of ECY768 super alloy. The lives predicted by strain energy methods are found to coincide with experimental data and results obtained from the Coffin-Manson method. The fatigue lives is evaluated using predicted by Coffin-Manson method and strain energy methods is compared with the measured fatigue lives at different temperatures. The microstructure observing was performed for how affect able to low-cycle fatigue life by increasing the temperature.

  • Recently, due to the aging of workers and the weakening of the labor base in the automobile industry, research on quality inspection methods through ICT(Information and Communication Technology) convergence is being actively conducted. A lot of research has already been done on the development of an automated system for quality inspection in the manufacturing process using image processing. However, there is a limit to detecting defects occurring in the automotive sunroof sealer application process, which is the subject of this study, only by image processing using a general camera. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a system construction method that collects image information using a infrared thermal imaging camera for the sunroof sealer application process and detects possible product defects based on the SVM(Support Vector Machine) algorithm. The proposed system construction method was actually tested and applied to auto parts makers equipped with the sunroof sealer application process, and as a result, the superiority, reliability, and field applicability of the proposed method were proven.

  • Several countries have been operating radioactive waste disposal (RWD) programs to construct their own repositories and have used natural analogues (NA) studies directly or indirectly to ensure the reliability of the long-term safety of deep geological disposal (DGD) systems. A DGD system in Korea has been under development, and for this purpose a generic NA study is necessary. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has just launched the first national NA R&D program in Korea to identify the role of NA studies and to support the safety case in the RWD program. In this article, we review some cases of NA studies carried out in advanced countries considering crystalline rocks as candidate host rocks for high-level radioactive waste disposal. We examine the differences among these case studies and their roles in reflecting each country's disposal repository design. The legal basis and roadmap for NA studies in each country are also described. However because the results of this analysis depend upon different environmental conditions, they can be only used as important data for establishing various research strategies to strengthen the NA study environment for domestic disposal system research in Korea.

  • Various type of valves are manufactured for different industrial uses. Among them, check valves are used to allow fluid to flow in one direction but not in the opposite direction. There are many different types of check valves, but Y-shaped check valves are widely used these days. Not many studies have been carried out on Y-shaped check valves and the flow coefficients obtained through numerical analysis have the problem of low reliability. In order to solve this problem, this study performed flow analysis, flow-structure coupled analysis, and flow coefficient measurement experimentally, and through these analyses derived and verified the flow coefficients and assessed the structural safety based on numerical analysis.

  • The evaluation theory of reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) as a mature theory of state evaluation in the railway engineering, can be well used to the evaluation, management, and maintenance of complicated structure like the long-span bridge structures on the high-speed railway. Taking a typical steel-truss arch bridge on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the Nanjing Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge, this paper developed a new method of state evaluation for the existing steel-truss arch high-speed railway bridge. The evaluation framework of serving state for the bridge structure is presented based on the RAMS theory. According to the failure-risk, safety/availability, maintenance of bridge members, the state evaluation method of each monitoring item is presented. The weights of the performance items and the monitoring items in all evaluation levels are obtained using the analytic hierarchy process. Finally, the comprehensive serving state of bridge structure is hierarchical evaluated.

  • Safety and Reliability assessments of Avionics Parts must be conducted essentially in the step of disign and manufacture as it constitutes a major field of aircraft critical operation. Recently Avionics parts fabrication techniques are continuously developing by applying digital techniques. Airborne computer is being adopted on an aircraft for flight is being adopted on an aircraft for flight safety augmentation and simplification of controls including reduction of human error. Therefore inspection and evaluation procedures should be developed in order to accomodate such trends. The number of avionics parts is approximitely 72% of total TSO parts, so it is expected high added-values through manufactures of TSO parts in aircraft industries. Particuarly avionics parts must be manufacturered with our own technology to be used in Mid-class aircraft which will be developed soon. Along with this, preparation of Certification Procedures is essential for Avionics Parts.
