Effects of relative light intensity and N, P fertilization on the growth and ramet dynamics of the rhizomatous plants, Arundinella hirta, Miscanthus sinensi and Spdiopogon sibiricus were studied in Chuncheon, Kangweon-Do. Ramets emerged in one pulse a year, withered in one pulse at the end of the growing season in M. sinensis and S. sibircus stands, while the birth and death pulse in A. hirta stands were two times. Total births of ramet were 9 times and 3.6 times greater in the unshaded fertilized stands of A. hirta and M. sinensis than in the shaded, However, those of S.sibiricus were 2.1 times greater in the shaded stands. Flowering rates of A. hirta, M.sinensis and S.sibiricus I the unshaded fertilized stands were 1.8, 2.7 and 1.04 times greater than in the shaded unfertilized stands, respectively. Height of ramets of A. hirta and M.sinensis were the hightest in the unshaded fertilized stands. However, that of s.sibiricus was the highest in the shaded fertilized stand. Aboveground production of A.hirta in the fertilized stand was 2.4 times greater in the unshaded stand than in the shaded one. Results of inflorescence frequency, shoot height and the ratio of aboveground to belowground were smiliar to the total births. The added fertilizer markedly increased the ramet density and the shoot productivity of three rhizomatous plants, especially of A. hirta.

In this study, we developed a fiber-optic humidity sensor (FOHS) system for the monitoring and detection of coolant leakage in nuclear power plants. The FOHS system includes an FOHS, a spectrometer, a halogen white-light source, and a Y-coupler. The FOHS is composed of a humidity-sensing material, a metal tube, a multi-mode plastic optical fiber, and a subminiature version A (SMA) fiber-optic connector. The humidity-sensing material is synthesized from a mixture of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) in distilled water. We measured the optical intensity of the light signals reflected from the FOHS placed inside the humidity chamber with relative humidity (RH) variation from 40 to 95%. We found that the optical intensity of the sensing probe increased linearly with the RH. The reversibility and reproducibility of the FOHS were also evaluated.
White snakeroot (Ageratina altissima (L.) R. King & H. Robinson) as an invasive alien plant appeared more abundantly at lower elevations where frequent artificial interferences prevailed than at higher elevations where such impacts were less. They appeared abundantly in introduced forests such as black locust plantation but they did not appear or were rare in natural forests such as oak forest. But an exceptional phenomenon where white snakeroot did not appear was found in a Korean pine stand with dense cover afforested recently. Appearance status of white snakeroot in each section of trampling path depended on breadth of the path and relative light intensity. Growth of white snakeroot measured as the number of ramet per genet, height, and biomass was better near the trampling path and was reduced toward the forest interior. The growth was proportionate to the relative light intensity measured according to distance from the trampling path. Such results support the fact generally known in relation invasion and expansion of the invasive alien plants. From this viewpoint, we suggest a management plan that applies ecological restoration principles to address ecosystems infected with white snakeroot by restoring the integral feature of the degraded nature and more thoroughly conserving the remaining nature.
Performances of spectrum-sliced channels are strongly affected by their relative intensity noise (RIN). We use polarization-independent optical modulators (PIOMs) for spectrum-sliced channels to suppress their RIN. The PIOM driven by a high sinusoidal voltage signal evenly redistributes optical frequency components in the spectral domain and reduces the RIN. It can be used at a broadband light source (BLS) output to produce spectrum-sliced channels having lower RIN values. Also, it can be used for each spectrum-sliced channel within each optical network unit (ONU). In our experiment, where 12.5-GHz-spaced spectrum-sliced channels are used in 1-GbE speed, the use of PIOM at the BLS output reduces the bit error rate (BER) of the spectrum-sliced channel by more than an order of magnitude. The use of PIOM within the ONU reduces the BER by approximately 3 orders of magnitude.
This study was carried out to investigate all the parts' weight growth under the different light intensity and root-cutting. As results : ${\cdot}$ Fresh and dry weight of leaf, shoot, root and seedling treated under 63% R.L.I showed the largest growth. ${\cdot}$ The largest growth in fresh and dry weight of shoot arid seedling appeared at 1/4 root cutting plot. ${\cdot}$ The value of T/R ratio was increased in low light intensity and high root-cutting. ${\cdot}$ The simple nonlinear relationship between light intensity, root-cutting and T/R ratio was recognized, respectively.
To study for proper growing conditions of Hydrangea macrophylla var. acuminata, used as ornamental trees or sources of natural sweetenings and biological active compounds, two-year-old cuttings of the plant were subjected to different conditions, light intensity, watering, and fertilizing levels. Photosynthetic rates measured on October 2 differed significantly between two light intensity regimes, but the values measured on September 3 were not significantly different. Mean photosynthetic rates on the plot watered three times a week were higher than the cuttings on the plot watered once a week. Mean photosynthetic rates on the plot fertilized 200grams/cuttings were slightly higher than those of the cuttings on the control plot. Chlorophyll contents measured on August 2 and on September 3 were significantly different between the light intensity regimes. Chlorophyll contents measured on August 2 were significantly different between the moisture regimes, but not significantly different between the fertilizing levels. Means of leaf growth(length and width) measured the highest values on the plot watered three times a week, and on the plot in full-sun lighted.

This studies were conducted to investigate on the shade adaptation of native Sedum kamchaticum and Disporum smilacinum. All plants were grow under the controlled light intensity conditions, which controlled by two shading materials, white and/or black shading net. The results obtained were as follow. 1. Daily changes of the shading area around of the building were various by building height, width and direction. 2. Upper canopy was composed to Pinus densiflora as dominant species in native sites of Disporum species. 3. Many branches of Disporum smilacinum were sprouted after pinching. However their growth were less elongated shorter than those of Disporum viridescens. 4. Sedum sarmentosum was poor growth under the low relative light intensity as 50%, however, the growth of this species closely was similiar as under the full sun condition.

This study was carried out in order to investigate the photosynthesis response and leaf characteristics of Peucedanum japonicum growing in forest farming. The experiment was performed by leaf mold (pine tree and chestnut tree) and shading levels (0%, 35%, 50% and 75% shading). Light relative intensity was 100% (full sunlight), 60.3% (35% shading), 35.1% (50% shading), and 17.4% (75% shading) respectively. Light response curves of pine-leaf mold and chestnut-leaf mold were the highest in control (full sunlight) and these were getting lower in the higher shading level. Photosynthesis capacity and light saturation point were indicated higher in chestnut-leaf mold within the same shading level. As the shading level increased, maximum photosynthesis rate decreased. And apparent quantum yield was not indicated statistically significant difference from all treatment. Leaf area, leaf length and leaf width were significant higher in 35% shading and control under chestnut-leaf mold in all treatment. As the shading level increased, LAR (leaf area ratio), SLA (specific leaf area) and SPAD value decreased in pine-leaf mold and chestnut-leaf mold. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, P. japonicum is judged better growth and higher yield by maintaining 35% shading (relative light intensity 60%) under chestnut-leaf mold in forest farming.

Photosynthetic activity of two rice varieties "Suweon 318, Nagdongbyeo" and two species of grass weeds, two species of sedge weeds, and four species of broadleaf weeds was measured at 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 Klux light intensity. Relative photosynthetic activity of weed species was high in the decreasing order in Cyperus serotinus, Echinochloa grusgalli var caudata, Bidens tripartita, Monochoria vaginalis, and Ludwigia prostrata, while respiration rate was high in Bidens tripartite, Monochoria vaginalis and Cyperus serotinus. Light saturation point of Monochoria vaginalis and Sagittaria pygrnaea may be considered as at 30 klux and photosynthetic rate of other weed species increased with increasing light intensity. Photosynthetic activity of weed species was generally two times higher than rice at the light intensity of 50 klux and increased more than rice as light intensity increased. Photosynthetic activity per leaf dry weight and specific leaf area was higher in broadleaf weeds than in grass and sedge weed species.
A pupil filter is a useful technique for modifying the light intensity distribution near the focus of an optical system to realize depth of field (DOF) extension and superresolution. In this paper, we proposed a new design of the phase only pupil filter by using Zernike polynomials. The effect of design parameters of the new filters on DOF extension and superresolution are discussed, such as defocus Strehl ratio (S.R.), superresolution factor (G) and relative first side lobe intensity (M). In comparison with the other two types of pupil filters, the proposed filter presents its advantages on controlling both the axial and radial light intensity distribution. Finally, defocused imaging simulations are carried out to further demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed pupil filter on DOF extension and superresolution in an optical imaging system.
