  • Falling related injuries are categorized as the most serious and common medical problems experienced by the elderly, hip joint fracture, one of the most serious consequences of falling in the elderly, occurs in only about 1% of falling. Nevertheless, hip fracture accounts for a considerable part of the disability, death, and medical costs associated with falling. In this study, we considered the impact angle and displacement rate in falling as another factor affecting femoral strength. Using a fresh-frozen human femur, we developed system to simulate the falling condition and then conducted the experiments changing the impact angle (0$^{\circ}$, 15$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$) of proximal femur. Also, in order to analyze the relative risk due to falling to normal situation in proximal femur, we did the static test simulating the two-legged stance condition. The results showed that the change in impact angle affected the strain distribution in proximal femur, and that a large deformation in femoral neck than in other sites. Furthermore despite low impact velocity, a large deformation in proximal femur occurred in the impact test and different strain distribution was observed compare to the static case.

  • T.S. HANBADA has a relatively large hull and superstructures above the water line, so she has much of leeway or turning of bow with the effect of winds. Especially on berthing, unberthing and/or sailing on low speed, these effects take place more significant. Therefore, it was carried out the numerical calculation of the wind force and moments acting on the T.S. HANBADA, and then calculated the leeway angle and counter rudder angle with the relative wind direction and velocity. Also, it was suggested the maximum wind velocity which could be berthed or unberthed used by bow thruster and the tugboat operations in strong winds. These results will be great helpful to the vessels with large superstructures on ship's handling in harbour or tugboat operations.

  • In this paper, we propose a motion and position recognition technique considering an experiential VR environment. Motion recognition attaches a plurality of AHRS devices to a body part and defines a coordinate system based on this. Based on the 9 axis motion information measured from each AHRS device, the user's motion is recognized and the motion angle is corrected by extracting the joint angle between the body segments. The location recognition extracts the walking information from the inertial sensor of the AHRS device, recognizes the relative position, and corrects the cumulative error using the BLE fingerprint. To realize the proposed motion and position recognition technique, AHRS-based position recognition and joint angle extraction test were performed. The average error of the position recognition test was 0.25m and the average error of the joint angle extraction test was $3.2^{\circ}$.

  • When bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy or mandibular angle reduction are carried out, we have to consider the position of inferior alveolar nerve. For bone splitting or resection using a saw or an osteotome, the bucco-lingual position of the inferior alveolar nerve plays an important role in the preventing perioperative complications such as paresthesia or anesthesia. Because it is rare to find literatures concerning the mean anatomic position of the inferior alveolar nerve in Koreans, we investigated 30 patients who underwent to take CT and orthopantomogram for implant surgery, and evaluated the bucco-lingual position and vertical relationship of the inferior alveolar nerve at the mandible. The results showed that the distance between inferior alveolar nerve and buccal plate was the farthest at mandibular second molar ($7.1{\sim}7.4mm$) and the nearest at mandibular angle area ($4.4{\sim}4.8mm$). But it was no statistical relationship between the bucco-lingual postion of inferior alveolar nerve on the CT and its vertical position on the OPT. In conclusion, the results suggest that a careful surgical procedure is needed at the mandibular angle area to avoid a nerve damage and there are sufficient bone materials at the mandibular second molar are for bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy or mandibular angle reduction or plate fixation. And OPT is not usefull for the evaluation of a relative bucco-lingual position of inferior alveolar nerve in relation to its vertical postion on the OPT.

  • In this paper, a roll angle estimation method of a rolling airframe using a low grade GPS and a roll rate gyro is proposed. The strength of the received signal of the GPS antenna attached on the rolling airframe is maximized when the GPS satellite is placed on the plane determined by the x-axis of the rolling airframe and the GPS antenna axis. Under the assumption that the x-axis of the rolling airframe is coincident with its velocity vector, the roll angle of the rolling airframe is calculated from the relative position vector of the satellite to the GPS when the GPS signal strength becomes maximum. The Kalman filter combined with a roll rate gyro is introduced to increase the determination accuracy of the roll angle. The performance of the proposed method is verified via 6-DOF simulations.

  • This paper introduces the inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) imaging technique for rear view target of an automobile, which uses both linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying(LFM-FSK) waveform and monopulse tracking. LFM-FSK waveform consists of two sequential stepped frequency waveforms with some frequency offset, and thus, can be used to generate ISAR images of rear view target of an automobile. However, ISAR images can often be blurred due to non-uniform change rate of relative aspect angle between radar and target. In order to address this problem, one-dimensional(1-D) Lagrange interpolation technique in conjunction with angle information obtained from the monopulse tracking is applied to generate uniform data across the radar's aspect angle. Simulation results show that the proposed method can provide focused ISAR images.

  • This paper has been shown for the extraction of Doppler signature from the radar signal for an air-breathing targets tracked in the ground radar. For the extractions, a Doppler resolution is confirmed from mathematical modeling of PT(pulse train) waveform. Doppler signatures of air-breathing target are varied to radar aspect angle of engine and are determined from physical parameter of jet engine. To confirm such Doppler signatures, the radar signal reflected from the air-breathing target is obtained by our radar signal storage. After this extraction, radar aspect angle of engine has estimated from tracking information. Relative differences of Doppler signatures to radar aspect angle of engine is verified from these results and Doppler profiles for radar target identification appliance are presented.

  • The study, with regard to unsymmetrically inclined backfilled wall, was intended to estimate the lateral earth pressure, develop the equation for lateral earth pressure and eventually identify the mutual behavior, based on the modified Kellogg theory, while changing the width between the walls, wall angle, relative density and wall friction angle. To verify the geostatic pressure obtained from the study, the results in the wake of 62 kinds of model tests performed were compared and evaluated with the behaviors based on theoretical equations. As a result, the wall inclination angle was found to be the factors affecting the earth pressure the most, when both walls were inclined unsymmetrically. And the narrower the backfill space and the larger the wall inclination angle to the horizontal level, the greater the effect of the wall friction. The equation considering the wall friction reaction indicated the value, which was closer to the actually-measured earth pressure, and when the width between the warts was narrow, the arching effect appeared to be great, thereby indicating the difference between the measured earth pressure, theoretically calculated earth pressure and the geostatic pressure proved to be insignificant.

  • In the study, the cone index, the cohesion and the internal friction angle of soil were measured before and after tillage in order to suggest relative improvement in soil properties by comparing the two measured values before and after tillage. The tillage methods tested in the study were five combinations of plowing and rotovating; one plow tillage operation, one plow followed by one rotary, one plow followed by two rotary, one rotary without plow and two rotary without plow. The experiments were performed in a soil bin in Sunggyunkwan Univ. and in four selected test fields in Yeoju, Seodun-Dong, Suwon (especially, two different fields) and Chungju. In general, the internal friction angle and cohesion of soil increased with the increase of soil compaction. After applying the tillage operations, the internal friction angle reduced by 14 degree and the cohesion decreased up to about $2.2N/cm^2$ on the soil bin in comparison with those before tillage. The two values, however, reduced by 9 degree and up to about $1.0N/cm^2$ on the tested fields. The CIs for all the tillage operations on the soil bin and on 4 different test fields were decreased by 800 kPa in comparison with those before tillage. The best combination of tillage operations for decreasing the CIs of soil was one plow operation followed by one rotary. The CIs for one plow operation followed by two rotary were slightly higher than that for one plow operation followed by one rotary because one plow operation followed by two rotary crushed down the soil excessively, so that the porosity of soil decreased.

  • A bushing is a device used in automotive suspension systems to reduce the load transmitted from the wheel to the frame of the vehicle. A bushing is a hollow cylinder, which is bonded to a solid steel shaft at its inner surface and a steel sleeve at its outer surface. The relation between the force and moment applied to the shaft and the relative deformation and rotational angle of a bushing exhibits features of viscoelasticity. Since a moment-rotational angle relation for a bushing is important for multibody dynamics numerical simulations, the simple relation between the moment and rotational angle has been derived from experiment. It is shown that the predictions by the proposed moment-rotational angle relation are in very good agreement with the experimental results.
