영일만내의 유동과 수질특성에 관한 연구 (Study on Current and Water Quality Characteristics in Yongil Bay)

  • The water quality in Yongil Bay is getting worse due to the sewage and the waste water from the surrounding industrial complex. The study aims to simulate the current system that is necessary to build ecosystem model for the optium water quality control and clarify the correlation of current system characteristics with water quality in Yongil Bay. To clarify the characteristics of coastal water movement system and verify the applicability of the 3-D model, the current system was simulated using 3-D model baroclinic model which considers tidal current and density effects. As the results of numerical experiments, it is proved the 3-D model is the most applicable on appearing the current system of the stratificated Yongil Bay difference of density. Form the results of simulation considered tidal current only, it can be clarified that the water body flows in the inner bay through the bottom layer and flows out the outer bay through the surface layer in Yongil Bay. And the fresh water from the Hyongsan river and the thermal discharge form POSCO have a little effect on the current system in Yongil Bay, but the diffusion of heat and salt has an important effect upon the formation of the density stratification of the water quality distribution is closely related with the current structure characteristics as well as the tidal residual current system in Yongil Bay.

추코트와 보퍼트 해에서 계측된 해빙 두께와 건현과의 관계 (Relation Between Measured Sea Ice Thickness and Freeboard on Chukchi and Beaufort Seas)

  • The thickness of Arctic sea ice is a particularly significant factor in Arctic shipping and other ice-related research areas such as scientific sea ice investigations and Arctic engineering. In this study, the relation between the measured sea ice thickness and freeboard on the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas during the 2010 and 2011 Arctic cruise of the icebreaking research vessel "Araon" were considered. An assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium was used to estimate the ice thickness as a function of the freeboard. Then, to examine the degree of error, a sensitivity analysis of the thickness estimation of the sea ice was conducted. The error in the density and depth of the snow and the error in the density of the seawater were subordinate parameters, but the density of the ice and the freeboard were the primary parameters in the error calculation. The presented relation formula showed fairly close agreement between the calculated and measured results at a freeboard of >0.24 m.

Low roll-off of efficiency with increasing current density in phosphorescent OLEDs

  • We demonstrate that the reduction of quantum efficiency with increasing current density in phosphorescent light emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) is related to the formation of excitons in hole transporting layer based on the analysis of emission spectra and exciton formation zone. By employing dual emitting layerm we could achieve maintaining quantum efficiency at high current density up to $10000\;cd/m^2$ as 13.1% compared to the devices with single emitting layer (S-EML) (${\eta}_{ext}$= 6.9% at $10000\;cd/m^2$).

  • The intermediate mixing chamber is one of various methods for improving the regression rate and combustion efficiency of the hybrid rocket. The mixing chamber with its non-combustible material makes the propulsion performance increase, but it leads to a low fuel-loading density in the combustion chamber; therefore, this performance-related trade-off between the mixing chamber and the low fuel-loading density was studied. In this study, the trade-off was conducted by comparing the intermediate-mixing-chamber case with a w/o-mixing-chamber case. The small hybrid-sounding rocket is designed with internal ballistics for comparing the rocket length to the weight. In addition, an external ballistic analysis was conducted for comparing the performances of the w/- and w/o-mixing-chamber cases. As a result, the intermediate-mixing-chamber case shows that the length and the weight were decreased to 12 % and 8 %, respectively; furthermore, when compared with the normal cases, the estimated altitude result of the w/-mixing-chamber case was increased to approximately 75 m.

고전류밀도 구리도금공정에서 알시안블루(Alcian Blue) 농도와 기계적 특성과의 상관관계 (Relationship between Concentration of Alcian Blue and Mechanical Properties on High Current Density Copper Electroplating)

  • The current density in copper electroplating is directly related with the productivity; then, to increase the productivity, an increase in current density is required. This study is based on an analysis of changes in surface characteristics and mechanical properties by applying the addition of Alcian Blue (AB, C56H68Cl4CuN16S4). The amount of Alcian Blue in the electrolytes is changed from 0 to 100 ppm. When Alcian Blue is added at 20 ppm, a seed layer is formed homogeneously on the surface at the initial stage of nucleation. However, crystals electroplated in electrolytes with more than 40 ppm of Alcian Blue are observed to have growth in the vertical direction on the surface and the shapes are like pyramids. This tendency of initial nucleation formation causes protrusions when the thickness of copper foil is 12 ㎛. Thereafter, a lot of extrusions are observed on the group of 100 ppm Alcian Blue. Tensile strength of groups with added Alcian Blue increased by more than 140% compare to no-addition group, but elongation is reduced. These results are due to the decrease of crystal size and changes of prior crystal growth plane from (111) and (200) to (220) due to Alcian Blue.

Usefulness of Estimated Height Loss for Detection of Osteoporosis in Women

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine the threshold value of estimated height loss at which the risk of osteoporosis increases and to verify its discriminative ability in the detection of osteoporosis. Methods: It was conducted based on epidemiological descriptive methods on 732 Korean women at a public healthcare center in Seoul between July and November 2010. ANOVA, Pearson correlation, logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve were used for data analysis. Results: There was an age-related correlation between bone mineral density (lumbar spine: F=37.88, p<.001; femur: F=54.27, p<.001) and estimated height loss (F=27.68, p<.001). Estimated height loss increased significantly with decreasing bone mineral density (lumbar spine: r=-.23, p<.001; femur: r=-.34, p<.001). The odds ratio for the point at which the estimated height loss affects the occurrence of osteoporosis was found to increase at a cut-off value of 2 cm and the area under ROC curve was .71 and .82 in lumbar spine and femur, respectively. Conclusion: The optimal cut-off value of the estimated height loss for detection of osteoporosis was 2 cm. Height loss is therefore a useful indicator for the self-assessment and prognosis of osteoporosis.

첨가제 변화에 따른 $MoSi_2$ 고온발열체의 전기적 특성 (A Study on Electrical $MoSi_2$ High Temperature Heating Elements by Additives)

  • It was studied to prepare high temperature heating elements using molybdenum disilicide($MoSi_2$). Molybdenum disilicide is widely used as material for manufacturing high temperature heating elements. $MoSi_2$ heating elements could be used at 1700-1900$^{\circ}C$. However, it is relatively expensive, and its demand depends on import. $MoSi_2$ powders was mixed with 4-5wt% of montmorillonites type bentonite as plasticizer and a small amount of $Si_3N_4$, $ThO_2$, and B as additives to prepare specimen of heating elements. Then, it was extruded, dried, sintered and machined followed by heating test. Effects of sintering conditions and amount of additives were investigated, It was sintered effectively at 1,350$^{\circ}C$ for five hours. Electrical resistivity was decreased with increasing of sintering temperature and time, and related with apparent density of the specimens. It was linealy decreased with increasing of sintered density. The heating elements thus prepared was stable at 1700$^{\circ}C$ and the physical properties such as specific electrical resistivity, hardness, apparent density, thermal expansion coefficient, and bending strength were almost identical with those of commercial heating elements.

도시 지표면 온도분포 특성 및 열섬완화방안 (A Study on the Distribution Characteristic of Urban Surface Temperature and Urban Heat Island Effects)

  • The purpose of this research was to three-criteria landuse-pattern, developing density, NDVI which were related to the heat island and find the distribution characteristic of urban surface temperature and urban heat island effects. The results of this study were as follows. According to the analysis of surface temperatures, the first grade was the outside-city like a mountain and its temperature was less than $12.18^{\circ}C$. The fifth grade was the downtown industrial area and its temperature was more than $23.54^{\circ}C$. It means Daegu-Metropolitan-City has the serious heat-island effect. the results of landuse pattern analysis, in case of fifth and forth grade, city area was occupied over 90% with residential, commercial and industrial areas, but in case of third grade, openspace was occupied over 70%. The results of developing density analysis, the temperature had high correlation with building ratio, road ratio, vegetation ratio and etc. To plan for the decrease of heat island effect needed the extension of green space, decrease of paving, but there was a limit to get the objective method for grade classification because of lacking in the basic data, the research of criteria will be accomplished continuously.

The Relationship between Serum Ferritin and Bone Mineral Density

  • Several risk factors for osteoporosis are known relatively well. Some nutrients are directly or indirectly needed for metabolic processes related to bone. Recently, an increased prevalence of osteoporosis has been reported in patients with hemochromatosis, an iron overload disease. Thus, the aim of this study was to find out if there was any relationship between serum ferritin and T-score of bone mineral density in healthy women. We recruited 1,101 subjects females aged between 39 and 85 years. We measured serum ferritin, glucose tolerance indices, lipid profiles, inflammatory indices, hormones, calcium, alkaline phosphatase. Also, anthropometric, blood pressure, and bone mineral density measurements were performed. T-score was negatively correlated with age (r=-0.425; P<0.01), systolic (r=-0.109; P<0.01) and diastolic (r=-0.093; P<0.01) pressure, follicular stimulation hormone (r=-0.190; P<0.01), alkaline phosphatase (r=-0.235; P<0.01), and serum ferritin (r=-0.090; P<0.05) and positively with body mass index (r=0.050; P=0.01), HDL-cholesterol (r=0.314; P<0.01), and estradiol (r=0.200; P<0.01). After adjustment for age, alkaline phosphatase, body mass index, HDL-cholesterol, estradiol, and follicular stimulation hormone, serum ferritin was independently inversely correlated with T-score (${\beta}$=-0.001; P<0.05). It is possible that an increase of serum ferritin in females be risk to osteoporosis.

캐비테이션 유동해석을 위한 기-액 2상 국소균질 모델 (GAS-LIQUID TWO-PHASE HOMOGENEOUS MODEL FOR CAVITATING FLOW)

  • A high resolution numerical method aimed at solving cavitating flow is proposed and applied to gas-liquid two-phase shock tube problem. The present method employs a finite-difference 4th-order Runge-Kutta method and Roe's flux difference splitting approximation with the MUSCL TVD scheme. By applying the homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model, the present density-based numerical method permits simple treatment of the whole gas-liquid two-phase flow field, including wave propagation and large density changes. The speed of sound for gas-liquid two-phase media is derived on the basis of thermodynamic relations and compared with that by eigenvalues. By this method, a Riemann problem for Euler equations of one dimensional shock tube was computed. Numerical results such as detailed observations of shock and expansion wave propagations through the gas-liquid two-phase media at isothermal condition and some data related to computational efficiency are made. Comparisons of predicted results and exact solutions are provided and discussed.
