  • In paper after the strong earthquake of recently the Korea neighborhood, the Korean government survey show that the 86% of school buildings in Korea are in potential damage risk and only 14% of them are designed as earthquake-resistance buildings. Earthquake Reinforcing projects of school have been a leading by the ministry of education, however their reinforcing methods done by not proved a engineering by experiment which results in uneconomical and uneffective rehabilitation for the future earthquake. An experimental and analytical study have been conducted for the shear reinforcing method of RC beam by axis and horizontal axis load using attaching composite beam. Based on the previous research, in this study, design examples are given to show the performance evaluation for the column reinforcing of old school buildings using nonlinear analysis is going to be conducted and strengthening method is going to be on the market after their performance is proved by the test.

  • This paper studied experimentally on the structural performance and serviceability of RC beams with high-strength reinforcing bars. Following to the previous research, high-strength reinforcing bars have an negative effect on the deflection and crack depth. But, there are advantages about reducing amount of reinforcement than normal-strength reinforcing bars. So, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of flexural performance on the beams with high-strength reinforcing bars. Three specimens were tested, and the main variable was the yield strength of the reinforcements; SD400, SD600 and SD700. Experimental results shows that the stiffness of members reduced when apply to high-strength reinforcement and equal reinforcement ratio. But the flexural strength of members increased to proportion to the strength and amount of reinforcement. Also, when high-strength reinforcement used, serviceability aspect do not appear to be affected because there is no change for crack number and maximum crack width.

  • One of the reasons for brittle failure in reinforced concrete structures subjected to severe earthquake is due to large slip between reinforcing steel and concrete. This study aims to evaluate effects of deformation patterns of ribbed reinforcing bars on bond under cyclic loading. Bond test specimens were constructed with machined bars to test the newly developed reinforcing bars with high relative rib areas. The degree of confinement is also another key parameter in this bond test. From the test results under monotonic and cyclic loading, bond strength and stiffness were evaluated. Bond strength and bond stiffness increase as relative rib areas under cyclic loading for specimens highly confined by transverse reinforcement. The increase rates of the bond performance under cyclic loading are larger than those of specimens under monotonic loading. The developed bars with high relative rib areas will contribute for better bond performance for reinforced concrete structures subjected to severe seismic loadings.

  • This paper describes the effect of strain hardening cement composite (SHCC) material on structure performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams with high-strength reinforcing bar. Also, this paper explores the structure application of SHCC in order to mitigation cracking damage and improve the ductility of flexural RC members. The prediction model for flexural strength of doubly reinforced SHCC beams are investigated in this study. To achieve the these objectives, a total of 6 rectangular beam specimens were tested under four point monotonic loading condition. The main parameters included the types of cement composite and reinforcing bar. Test results indicated that reinforced beam specimens with SHCC material were improved the structure performances and damage characteristics. Specifically, replacement of conventional high-strength concrete with SHCC materials has the potential of high-strength steel bar as flexural reinforcement on RC members. It is remarkable that suggested method of reinforced SHCC beams with high-strength reinforcing bar could be used usefully to the structure design.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate and improve the seismic performance of high strength R/C interior beam-column joints regions using advanced reinforcing detailings and high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar. Five specimens of retrofitted the beam-column joint regions using advanced reinforcing detailings and high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar were constructed and tested for their retrofitring performances. Specimens designed by retrofitting the interior beam-column joint regions (IJIR series) of existing reinforced concrete building showed a stable mode of failure and an increase in load-carrying capacity. Specimens of IJIR series, designed by the retrofitting of advanced reinforcing detailings and high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar in reinforecd beam-column joint regions increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 114.2~123.5% and its energy dissipation capacity by 1.55~1.85 times in comparison with the standard specimen of SIJC with a displacement ductility of 5.

  • The primary objective of this study is to make a contribution to the construction of 40~60 story R/C high rise building by developing the reinforcing details which can improve the seismic performance of high-strength (f'c=700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, fy=4000, 8000kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) R/C beam-column joints. And the purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of load history on the total energy dissipation capacity of reinforced concrete flexural members. The reinforcing details which can make beam plastic hinging zones moved and spreaded from the column face is proposed to insure the ductile behavior of high-strength RC beam-column joints. The intermediate reinforcement which is horizontally anchored by interlinking each intermediate reinforcements is proposed and tested to examine the mechanical performance of proposed details. Main variables are the shape of the intermediate reinforcements and yield strength of rebars. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate reinforcement details can move and spread the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.0d from the column face.

  • Seismic performance of reinforced concrete(RC) column bent piers to bidirectional seismic loadings was investigated experimentally. RC column bent piers represent one of the most popular forms of piers used in highway bridges. Further to series of previous experimental researches for the performance of single bridge columns subjected to seismic loadings, four column bent piers were constructed in 400 mm diameter and 2,000 mm height. Each pier has two circular supporting columns. These piers were tested under lateral load reversals with axial load of $0.1f_{ck}A_g$. Bidirectional lateral loadings were applied. The test parameters included: different transverse reinforcement contents and lap-spliced longitudinal reinforcing steels. Test results indicate that lap-splices of longitudinal reinforcing steels have significantly influence on hysteretic response of column bent piers. Column capacity changed with the level of transverse confinement, and bidirectional repeated loadings induced more strength and stiffness degradation than unidirectional repeated loading.

  • Structural walls have been favored for the design of reinforced concrete buildings in seismic zone areas because they provide an efficient bracing system and offer great potential for lateral load resistance and drift control. Loads on structures due to earthquakes are not unlikely to reach, if not exceed, the design load levels. Hence, structural damage to walls is inevitable, and it is necessary to repair this damaged walls. Yet, information on repair method and data related to the strength and deformation characteristics of repaired walls is limited. In this study, specimens which have their aspect ratios of about 1 to 3 will be repaired. For the repairing the damaged walls, new concrete and new reinforcing bar are replaced with cracked concrete and the buckled reinforcing bar, respectively. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the repaired structural walls in the capacity of strength, stiffness, and maximum deformation comparing with the undamaged walls.

  • The latest concrete has showed that the deterioration of durability has been increased by the damage from salt, carbonation, freezing & thawing and the others. Therefore, it is needed to protect durability and performance according to the appropriate materials and methods in the concrete structures. In general, several types of polymer and silicate are used as protecting deterioration agents of concrete structures, but these agents have many problems because of low durability and properties. In this study, It developed the deterioration restraining agent using polycondensed silicate and monomer that can block a deterioration cause such as CO2 gas, salt and water from the outside and enhance waterproofing ability by reinforcing the concrete surface when applying it to concrete structures. Also, it evaluated improving concrete performance using a deterioration restraining agent.
