Cryopreservation of in vitro Grown Shoot Tips of Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) Genetic Resources by Droplet-vitrification

  • This study describes an efficient and widely applicable droplet-vitrification following cryopreservation for shoot tips of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) cvs. 'Wonkyo3114' and 'Gurumi40'. The shoot tips were precultured in Murashige and Skoog (MS) liquid medium supplemented with sucrose (0.3-0.5M). Precultured explants were osmoprotected with loading solution (LS, C4) containing 20% glycerol and 20% sucrose for 40 min and exposed to dehydration solution (B5) containing 40% glycerol and 40% sucrose for 40 min at 25℃, Subsequently, the explants were transferred onto droplets containing 2.5 μL PVS3 on sterilized aluminum foils (4 cm × 0.5 cm) prior to direct immersion in liquid nitrogen (LN) for 1 h. The highest regrowth rate (%) in both the cultivars was obtained when the shoot tips were precultured with MS + 0.3M sucrose for 40 h at 25℃. The cryopreserved shoots tips exhibited 55% regrowth rate by culturing in NH4NO3-free MS medium supplemented with 3% sucrose, 1.0 g/L casein, 1.0 mg/L GA3, and 0.5 mg/L BA for 5 weeks and in MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L GA3 for 8 weeks. This result shows that droplet-vitrification could be employed as a promising method for cryostorage of strawberry germplasm.

억새 ( Miscanthus sinensis ) 의 생장 및 재생특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Chracteristicc in ( Miscanthus sinensis ))

  • 1984년 4월에서 10월까지 억새의 생육, 계절별 생산량 및 재생특성(再生特性)을 연구한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 억새의 잎은 Kranz anatomy를 갖고 있으며 두 종류의 엽록체를 갖는 전형적인 $C_4$ 식물이다. 2 억새의 계절별(季節別) 생산량(生産量)은 6월에서 8월 사이에 급격한 증가를 보이고 10월에 최고에 달하였으며 ($1,680gdw/m^2$), 생산성은 7월에 $510gdw/m^2$로 가장 높았고 그 후 점차 감소하였다. 3. 엽수(葉數)는 7월에 13개로 가장 많이 나왔으며 그 후 군락내의 잎이 말라 죽어서 수가 감소되었다. 최대 엽면적지수(葉面積指數)는 $6.3m^2/m^2$로서 잎의 수의 증감과 높은 상관을 나타내었다. 4. 억새의 재생(再生)은 목초(牧草)에 비하여 아주 빈약하며 예취(刈取)높이를 낮게 하거나 5월 중순 이후에 예취(刈取)하면 거의 재생이 되지 않았다. 그러나 7월말 이후는 어느 정도 재생은 되었으나 그 양은 빈약하였다.

저출력 레이저가 마우스 모발성장에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Low-power Laser on the Murine Hair Growth)

  • Low-power laser(LPL) delivers a small amount of energy without elevation of tissue temperature. LPL has been reported to have biostimulation effects including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, regenerative, immunocorrective, and vasodilative effects. However, the effect of LPL on hair growth has rarely been studied. We investigated the effect of LPL on hair growth in the mouse. After depilation of back skin of mice, we classified the mice into 4 groups: control, laser irradiated group, $MoandMore^{(R)}$ applied group, and Spella $707^{(R)}$ applied group. Laser irradiation or application of these drugs were performed on the back skin of the mice for 30 days. The results are summarized as follows. Hair growth of control was first observed at 13 days after depilation, and complete hair regrowth was observed at 25 days. Hair growth of both laser irradiation group and $MoandMore^{(R)}$ applied group was first observed at 9 days after depilation, and complete hair regrowth was observed at 20 days. Hair growth of Spella $707^{(R)}$ applied group was firstly observed at the 9 days after depilation, and complete hair regrowth was observed at the 15 days. Hair growth started at the irradiation site in the laser irradiation group, but it started at the random sites in other groups. In conclusion LPL irradiation have a stimulating effect on the hair growth in the mouse.

야생 알팔파의 건물수량, 생육특성 및 사료적인 가치 (Dry Matter Yield, Growth Characterics and Nutritive Value of Wild alfalfa)

  • 우리나라에는 알팔파의 야생종이 자생하고 있으나 이에 관해 조사 연구되어 발표된 결과는 거의 없다. 그러므로 대구지역에 자생하는 알팔파의 생육특성, 건물수량 및 사료가치 분석을 통하여 목초화 가능성을 밝히고저 하는 것이 본 시험의 목적이다. 야생 알팔파와 'Vernal' 품종을 1995년 봄에 경북 경산의 계명문화대학 사료작물포장에 파종하였다. 출현율은 'Vernal'이 야생 알팔파보다 우수하였으며 개화기는 야생 알팔파가 8일 늦었다. 재생력은 'Vernal'이 야생 알팔파보다 우수하였으며 마지막 예취 (9월 22일)이후 야생 알팔파는 거의 재생되지 않았으나 'Vernal'은 재생력이 우수하였다. 잡초율은 야생 알팔파가 'Vernal' 보다 높았으며, 건물수량은 'Vernal'이 야생 알팔파보다 유의하게 (P<0.05) 높았다. 조단백질, ADF 및 NDF 함량은 1 및 2차 예취때는 품종간에 차이가 없었으나 3차 예취시는 조단백질 함량은 야생 알팔파가 약간 높은 경향이었으며 ADF와 NDF 함량은 낮은 경향을 보였다.

Aneurysmal Neck Clipping as the Primary Treatment Option for Both Ruptured and Unruptured Middle Cerebral Artery Aneurysms

  • Objective : Although middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms are less amenable to coil embolization, an increasing number of studies support favorable endovascular treatment for them. The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of two different treatments (surgery versus coiling) and evaluate the benefits of surgical clipping for MCA aneurysms. Methods : Here we retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of 178 ruptured and unruptured MCA aneurysms treated in patients between September 2008 and April 2012. Parameters assessing treatment outcomes include degree of aneurysm occlusion, presence of regrowth, clinical status, and complications. Results : Among 178 MCA aneurysms, 153 were treated surgically. After a mean follow-up of 12 months, the surgery group showed a clinically significant complete occlusion rate (98%) compared with the coiling group (56%) (p<0.001). Follow-up radiologic evaluation showed a higher regrowth rate (four of 16 cases) in the coiling group than in the surgery group (one of 49 cases) (p=0.003). There was no statistically significant difference in favorable clinical outcome rate between the two groups. The procedure-related permanent morbidity and mortality rates were 2% (three of 153 cases) in the surgery group and 0% (0 of 25 cases) in the coiling group. Conclusion : Compared to endovascular treatment, surgical neck clipping for both ruptured and unruptured MCA aneurysms results in a significantly higher complete obliteration rate and less regrowth. Therefore, even in this endovascular era, we still recommend surgical clipping as the primary treatment option for MCA aneurysms rather than coil embolization.
