  • The body changes of the elderly women are the forward tilt of the neck and shoulder point shrinkage of the spinal column, and protrusive abdomen. Unfortunately, few data based on body measurements for elderly women existed and a few studies are limited to the body figure of the elderly women. If these changes are not applied to the manufacturing of the clothing, almost of the elderly women will be unfitted with their clothing. So to improve the fitting of the elderly women, it is necessary to use the standard size systems for elderly women. This report is the first study to develop the standard tables of body measurements to be used for improving the fit of garments and patterns for women aged 60 and older. This study drew from anthropometric measurements of 337 and photographic measurements of 276 women aged 60 and older. It described the protocol of anthropometric measurement, the comparison between the measured data and the data on which National anthropometric survey of Korea 1997 is based, and the development of body measurement standard tables for elderly women. And we also considered the regional difference of body dimensions in order to develop the national size standards for elderly women. Further study would include the classification of body dimensions and description of each figure type for sizing apparel of women aged 60 and older.

  • This paper aims at examining the existence and characteristics of regional difference in project finance in Korea. Main results of this paper are as follow. Firstly, regional difference in project finance between capital region and local can be seen partially. However, their characteristics are different from corporate finance. ANOVA tests show significant differences of excess interest rate occur in case of commercial real estate projects and significant differences of contracted terms occur in case of residential real estate projects carried out by local banks. Secondly, key factors causing the regional differences in project finance are asymmetric information for cash flow generated by the project between the capital region and local. Especially, regional differences in project finance are different from those in corporate financing because of local banks$^{\circ}{\phi}$ behaviors. They follow and act as the passive members of nationwide banks in case of the capital region projects. Thirdly, prepaid sale system and the guarantee system depending on construction companies dilute the regional differences in project finance in case of residential real estate projects. Although these systems contributed rapid growth of project finance, they may be the main factors distorting project finance market which lead to financial crisis. In these context, policy implications may be derived in order to solve the confronted problems of project finance market.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine if a geriatric injury would have a statistically significant relationship with the spatial safety within a specific region. To achieve the objectives of this study, an independent sample t-test and One-way ANOVA were performed to verify difference in mean value of regional safety grade, depending on the injury intentionality, injury location, activities at the time of injury, and injury mechanism, in 6,572 geriatric injury patients by combining the National Hospital Discharge Patients Injury Survey data and regional safety index data. The results of statistical validation suggested that there was no difference in the mean value of regional safety grade by sub-group with respect to the injury intentionality. However, a statistically significant difference was observed in terms of the mean value of regional safety grade in each sub-group with regard to the injury location, activities at the time of injury, and injury mechanism in connection with some areas of the regional safety index. Based on the results of such analysis, we derived and presented 3 implications related to policies and practice for the prevention of geriatric injury and a reduction of its occurrence rate in light of spatial safety after a discussion of the results through a comparison with previous studies that examined individual areas.

  • This study attempts to analyze the spatial disparity between supply and the demand of volunteering activities in Daegu, South Korea. The spatial disparity of volunteering activities has been strongly influenced by the residental disparity in terms of socio-economic level. The ratio of volunteers is mostly determined by income and education level that strongly impact the spatial distribution of residential area. The regional difference of ratio of volunteers is greater among Gu districts than in Dong level. The recipients for the volunteering activities have been likely to reside in a particular area within a Gu district; so, regional difference of the recipients was severe in dong level rather than Gu level. It is strongly recommended to exchange volunteers among regions to reduce the spatial disparity between the volunteers and the recipients.

  • Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV) has been a major disease causing a severe loss of yield in winter cereals worldwide. It has been recently reported that BYDV occurs frequently in wheat field and also causes serious yield reduction in Korea. This study was performed to investigate the regional distributions of BYDV strains in Korea and to identify the resistant cultivars or lines of wheat to the predominant BYDV strains, providing basic information for the breeding of BYDV-resistant wheat varieties. Using RT-PCR and EcoRI digestion methods, the regional distribution of BYDV strains in Korea from 1999 to 2000 showed that PAV strain was mainly detected about 65% (Vic-PAV 52.6% ; CN-PAV 47.4%) and MAV strain about 3%. Using ELISA test for the examination of BYDV resistance with 17 cultivars and 4 lines among Korean wheat, three cultivars, Gurumil, Topdongmil, and Olgurumil, were susceptible to BYDV and the others were resistant. In plant growth and yield component responses to BYDV infection, Gurumil showed significant difference between the uninfected and the infected, suggesting the most susceptible to BYDV among Korean wheat, but Eun-pamil and Seohae118 did no difference, an indication that they have the highest resistance.

  • This study aims to identify the regional distribution in the prevalence of dental caries and related multidimensional factors among 12-year-old children in Korea. Data from the 2018 Child Oral Health Survey were used to calculate the average DMFT index of 12-year-old children in metropolitan cities, and a multi-level regression model was applied to explain the regional distribution of dental caries prevalence and related factors. Factors were divided into two levels by administrative structure. This study finds a significant regional difference in the prevalence of dental caries in 12-year-old Korean children across metropolitan cities. Multilevel analysis showed that district-level factors (average number of pit and fissure-sealed permanent teeth, dental treatment demand rate, preventive treatment rate, sex ratio, and number of dentists per 100,000 people) and metropolitan-level factors (intakes of cariogenic beverages and number of pediatric dental hospitals and clinics per 100,000 people) had a significant effect on dental caries prevalence (p < 0.05). Individual characteristics and local socio-environmental factors influence the prevalence of dental caries. Especially considering the strong dependence on preventive treatment and accessibility to dental care services, it is necessary to provide adequate preventive treatment and expand health care resources in high-risk areas of dental caries.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relation between regional identity and national identity in a regional textbook in Korea. In geography education, regional textbooks are curriculum materials which represent regional identity based on territorial difference from other regions. In local curriculum level, the harmony between national unity and regional identity is to be pursued as educational objective. However, this harmony appears to be distorted in the school textbook in Je-Ju Province, a case region. For example, Confucian cultural landscapes are represented as otherness in regional discourses, but togetherness in the regional textbook. Also, the regional textbook implies that the boundary of external territorialization is mainly not regions but nations, and it seems to intend that leasers get a sense of place towards their region as periphery of nation. Therefore, we argue that regional identity, which must be stressed in a regional textbook, is marginalized in a case region.

  • In this paper the prevailing geography of the information sector, fousing on its occupatonal dimension, is examined. The purposes of this paper are to analyze the labor force share of information occupation workers at each special city and region, to compare the inter-regional distribution of information workforce and to analyze regional share of information occupations in manufacturing industry. Spatial pattern of size and occupational composition of information sector shows a core-periphery disparity. There is a clear evidence of Seoul's dominance of the information economy, particularly such as scientific and technical, consultative services, management and process control function. Also the distribution of information workers in manufacturing industry over space was polarized than is the case for total manufacturing employment and noninformation workers. Therefore Korean information economy is marked by a highly articulated spatial division of labor within individual industry, which can be attributed to the locational characteristics of information intensive industries and industrial composition of regional economy. From the results of this study, information employment prospects among regions of Korea would reinforce the unequal geography of job opportunity. In this light, regional policy efforts should be given to the improvement of information infrastructure to facilitate new computer-based service products and process in peripheral regions.

  • This paper aims to provide a basic framework to make a regional plan for the environment-friendly agriculture. To prepare the regional plan is mandated by the Environment-friendly Agriculture Promotion Act of 1998. Here is proposed the input/output analysis framework, which includes the shifts of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and livestock manures Basically, the discharged amount of polluted elements means the difference between the amount of the elements entered into the crop and livestock sectors and the amount of the elements absorbed or used by the crop and/or livestock. A few suggestions are offered for better regional environment-friendly agricultural plan. The foremost important thing is to establish a data collection system. The \"Green Accounting System\" is suggested. It is also crucial to create a standard guideline or manual which Provides detailed procedures to follow in making the plan by the local planners. More fundamentally, many experts on the regional planning will be demanded in the near future. Some compound model which links, for instance, the forestry, the livestock sector, and the crop sector, needs to be devised. Finally, it is argued here that more elaborated model will work as an integrated environmental improvement plan which embraces living environment as well as agricultural environment.vironment.
