  • The purpose of the study was to determine whether a delirium educational program has a positive outcome on nurses' documentation in patient records of delirium care. A one group pre-post design was used. A convenient sample of 60 consecutive records that included documentation by participating nurses in four medical wards of one regional general hospital in South Korea was audited two months before and two months after a delirium educational program. Although an educational program in this study positively changed nurses' knowledge and attitudes, these positive effects did not translate to improvement in the documentations of delirium care. There was no significant increase in the frequency of nursing documentation of delirium assessment following participation in the educational program. Furthermore, there was no significant increase in the frequency of nursing documentation of the use of non-pharmacological management following the documentation of keywords associated with delirium after participation in the educational program. The findings indicate the need to develop, implement and record a systematic risk assessment for delirium and assessment and management of existing delirium based on evidence-based guidelines in clinical practice in South Korea.

  • Urban development-related growth in recent years has become a qualitative growth based on regional identity, rather than a hardware-based growth. For this purpose, strategic approaches to the value of cultural assets of the city are required for competitiveness of the city. In this paper, I seek a model for urban regeneration and regional development through empirical case studies of cultural assets and utilize the 'Seoul Fairy Tale Festival' in terms of strengthening regional competitiveness. By analyzing detailed elements of the 'Seoul Fairy Tale Festival' case, the hardware infrastructure, software and governance structures, diverse contentsware, ecosystem characteristics centered on the humanware, and circular structure was studied. As a feature of cultural assets, combined with the management of physical assets and operations of several programs, was the basis for creating a synergy effect of creating an identity for the region. In addition, it was confirmed the possibility of a regional-rehabilitation type of urban regeneration that is based on the expansion of existing facilities, and a regional-innovation type of urban regeneration that is based on a fusion of characteristics. This analysis is significant in terms of the possibility of large urban regeneration based on cultural assets associated with the festival, as well as physical assets and by combining various governance stakeholders for the festival, it can be concluded that it provided an indigenous virtuous cycle.

  • Globalization has been the buzzword during the past couple of decades, embroiling humankind into the inescapable maelstrom of homogenization. Some critics identify the globalization process undergoing in the realms of politics, economy, culture and ecology with Americanization which entails Neoconservatives' scheme to stretch out the hegemony of the United States. The top-down transcontinental movement, however, deems to confront localization or a reasoned resistance from the local driven by the spiritual attachment to places and, in that sense, regional identity. What is needed to cope with this complex circumstance of glocalization is to be acquainted with beth the global sense of the local and the localized sense of the global at once. For this, it seems indispensible to do justice to area studies. As far as American studies are concerned, this research field has so far been tainted by an overdose of politics, economics, business administration, law and sociology. Regional analysis which constitutes the reason d'etre of the discipline of geography has remained marginal to the political economic mainstream. It is the mounting concerns about America and enhanced research caliber that raises the regional geographical studies of America on the right track. Particularly, a number of articles have been published since the mid-1990s owing to the combined efforts of practitioners, institutions and periodicals. It is expected that systematic training of new generation of American specialists, advance in research infrastructure, and generous funding will stimulate geographical investigation of America in the coming future.
