Extraction of Heart Region in EBT Images (EBT 영상에서 심장 영역의 추출)

  • It is very important to extract the heart region in the medical images. In this paper, we present the automatic heart region extraction in the EBT (electron beam tomography) images. We use contrast thresholding, anatomic knowledge, and mathematical morphology to extract the heart region. Using these results, we applied the active contour models (snakes) to search the exact region. We analyzed the experimental results by comparing the results with the results made by medical experts.

  • Extraction of an impacted third molar is one of the most frequently performed techniques in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Surgeons can suffer numerous external injuries while extracting a tooth, with percutaneous injuries to the hand being the most commonly reported. In this article, we present a case involving a percutaneous injury of the surgeon's femoral region caused by breakage of the fissure bur connected to the handpiece during extraction of the third molar. We also propose precautions to prevent such injuries and steps to be undertaken when they occur.

  • Steel slabs are marked with slab management numbers (SMNs). To increase efficiency, automated identification of SMNs from digital images is desirable. Automatic extraction of SMNs is a prerequisite for automatic character segmentation and recognition. The images include complex background, and the position of the text region of the slabs is variable. This paper describes an pre-processing algorithm for detection of slab information using robust feature points extraction. Using SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform) algorithm, we can reduce the search region for extraction of SMNs from the slab image.

  • This paper presents a visual touch recognition for NUI(Natural User Interface) using Voronoi-tessellation algorithm. The proposed algorithms are three parts as follows: hand region extraction, hand feature point extraction, visual-touch recognition. To improve the robustness of hand region extraction, we propose RGB/HSI color model, Canny edge detection algorithm, and use of spatial frequency information. In addition, to improve the accuracy of the recognition of hand feature point extraction, we propose the use of Douglas Peucker algorithm, Also, to recognize the visual touch, we propose the use of the Voronoi-tessellation algorithm. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithms through some experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a text extraction method by pattern analysis on contour for effective text detection in image. Text extraction algorithms using edge based methods show good performance in images with simple backgrounds, The images of complex background has a poor performance shortcomings. The proposed method simplifies the color of the image by using K-means clustering in the preprocessing process to detect the character region in the image. Enhance the boundaries of the object through the High pass filter to improve the inaccuracy of the boundary of the object in the color simplification process. Then, by using the difference between the expansion and erosion of the morphology technique, the edges of the object is detected, and the character candidate region is discriminated by analyzing the pattern of the contour portion of the acquired region to remove the unnecessary region (picture, background). As a final result, we have shown that the characters included in the candidate character region are extracted by removing unnecessary regions.

On Character Region Extraction by Cost Minimization Method (코스트 최소화법에 의한 문자영역의 추출)

  • If a method of character region extraction will have general purposes, it could not but make use of common features which all target images have. This paper suggests these common features should be considered as the coalitions for the region to be extracted within a framework of the cost minimization. The method suggested above could be effective by minimizing a cost function estmating the extent that character regions satify quantitatively the features, through Simulated Annealing Method. This method has an uniqueness in that it defines the cost function. Experimental result verify the usefulness of this cost minimization approach to characer region extraction.

An Efficient Partial Matching System and Region-based Representation for 2D Images (2D 영상의 효과적인 부분 정합 시스템과 영역기반 영상 표현)

  • This paper proposes an efficient partial matching system and representation by using a region-based method for 2D image, and we applied to an extraction of the ROI(Region of Interest) according to its matching score. The matching templates consist of the global pattern and the local one. The global pattern can make it by using region-based relation between center region and its rest regions in an object. And, the local pattern can be obtained appling to the same method as global, except relation between objects. As the templates can be normalized, we use this templates for extraction of ROI with invariant to size and position. And, our system operates only one try to match, due to normalizing of region size. To use our system for searching and examining if it's the ROI by evaluating the matching function, at first, we are searching to find candidate regions with the global template. Then, we try to find the ROI among the candidates, and it works this time by using the local template. We experimented to the binary and the color image respectively, they showed that the proposed system can be used efficiently for representing of the template and the useful applications, such as partially retrievals of 2D image.

Face Detection and Extraction Based on Ellipse Clustering Method in YCbCr Space

  • In this paper a method for detecting and extracting the face from the image in YCbCr spaceis proposed. The face region is obtained from the complex original image by using the difference method and the face color information is taken from the reduced face region throughthe Ellipse clustering method. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can efficiently detect and extract the face from the original image under the general light intensity except for low luminance.

  • This paper proposes a method of extracting automobile license plate information using color image processing and separation of character regions. The hue and saturation of color information is need for license plate extraction and the specified standard location ratio is need for character region separation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can detect license plates and separate character regions successfully.
