  • In this study, hydrogen embrittlement was investigated for 316L stainless steel (SS316L) and CoCrFeNi medium-entropy alloy (MEA) fabricated by laser-powder bed fusion. The in-situ hydrogen charging tensile tests revealed that the reduction in ductility due to hydrogen was more significant in the CoCrFeNi MEA, compared to the SS316L. In the case of SS316L, hydrogen-assisted cracks (HACs) were observed mainly on the surface, whereas in CoCrFeNi, cracks were found not only at the edges but also in the central region. HACs analysis confirmed that transgranular (TG) cracks were predominant in SS316L, whereas only intergranular cracks were formed in the CoCrFeNi MEA. The difference in hydrogen embrittlement resistance between SS316L and CoCrFeNi was discussed in terms of the differences in deformation microstructure and hydrogen diffusivity, as investigated through electron channeling contrast imaging and nanoindentation.

  • To image diagnosis in neurovascular diseases using Multi-Detector Computed Tomography(MDCT), injected the same contrast material when inspecting Brain Computed Tomography Angiography(BCTA) to examine radiation dose and Image quality on changing Cerebral Artery CT number by tube voltage. Executed an examination with same condition[Beam Collimation $128{\times}0.6mm$, Pitch 0.6, Rotation Time 0.5s, Slice Thickness 5.0mm, Increment 5.0mm, Delay Time 3.0sec, Care Dose 4D(Demension ; D)] except for tube voltage on 50 call patients for BCTA and divided them into two groups (25 people for a group, group A: 80, group B: 120kVp). From all the acquired images, set a ROI(Region of Interest) on four spots such as left cerebral artery, right cerebral artery, posterior cerebral artery and cerebral parenchyma to compare quantitative evaluation, qualitative evaluation and effective dose after measuring CT number value from Picture Archiving Communications System(PACS). Evaluating images with CT number acquired from BCTA examination, images with 80 kVp was 18% higher in Signal to Noise Ratio and 19% in Contrast to Noise Ratio than those with 120 kVp. It was seen that expose dose was decreased by over 50% with tube voltage 80 kVp than with 120 kVp. Group A (25 patients) was examination with tube voltage 80kVp while group B with 120 kVp to examine radiation dose and Image quality. It is considered effective to inspect with lower tube voltage than with conventional high kVp, which can reduce radiation dose without any affect on diagnosis.

  • This study was attempted to investigate the regional distribution and shapes of pancreatic endocrifle cells in the hedgehog, Erinaceus koneanus by the immunocytochemical PAP methods (Nalane, 1968; Stemberger, 1979). The tissue specimen taken from the splenic and duodenal regions of pancreas(proximai, middle and distal portions, respectively) were fixed with Bouin solution and the sections(5$\mu$ m) were followed by simple and double staining with 2 substrates, DAB and 4-CI-1-naphthol. The results were as following: Glucagon(A) cells, 13 $\mu$ m x 9.5 $\mu$ m in size, were found in the islets periphery and among the exocrine parenchyma. A cells were abundant in all the portions of splenic region and distal portion of duodenal region in contrast to a few in the proximal and middle portion of duodenal region. The shapes of the A cells were round, oval and pyramidal types. Insulin(B) cells, 11.6$\mu$m x 9.4$\mu$m in sise, were round or oval in shape and located throughout the islets. B cells were the most numerous cell types in all portions of splenic region and distal protion of duodenal region as compared with the other portions. Somatostatin(D) cells, 12.6$\mu$m x 9.1 $\mu$m in size, were round or oval in shape and found in the islets periphery and scattered in the exocrine parenchyma. These cells were rare in all the portions of splenic and duodenal region. Pancreatic polypeptide(PP) cells of various type, 12.8$\mu$ m x 8.5 $\mu$ m in size, were found in the islets periphery and among the exocrine parenchyma. PP cells were numerous in the proximal and middle portion of duodenal region, but rarely scattered in the other portions.

  • This paper is related to a morphological segmentation method for extracting the moving object in video sequence using global motion compensation and two-dimensional spatio-temporal entropic thresholding. First, global motion compensation is performed with camera panning vector estimated in the hierarchical pyramid structure constructed by wavelet transform. Secondly, the regions with high possibility to include the moving object between two consecutive frames are extracted block by block from the global motion compensated image using two-dimensional spatio-temporal entropic thresholding. Afterwards, the LUT classifying each block into one among changed block, uncertain block, stationary block according to the results classified by two-dimensional spatio-temporal entropic thresholding is made out. Next, by adaptively selecting the initial search layer and the search range referring to the LUT, the proposed HBMA can effectively carry out fast motion estimation and extract object-included region in the hierarchical pyramid structure. Finally, after we define the thresholded gradient image in the object-included region, and apply the morphological segmentation method to the object-included region pixel by pixel and extract the moving object included in video sequence. As shown in the results of computer simulation, the proposed method provides relatively good segmentation results for moving object and specially comes up with reasonable segmentation results in the edge areas with lower contrast.

  • Recently, in order to support automatic meter reading for conventional metering devices, an image processing-based approach of recognizing the number meter data in the captured meter images has attracted many researchers' interests. Numerical character segmentation is a very critical process for successful recognition. In this paper, we propose an efficient numeric character segmentation method which can segment numeric characters well for any metering device types under diverse illumination environments. The proposed method consists of two consecutive stages; detection of number area containing all numbers as a tight ROI(Region of Interest) and segmentation of numerical characters in the ROI. Detection of tight ROI is achieved in two steps: extraction of rough ROI by utilizing horizontal line segments after illumination enhancement preprocessing, and making the rough ROI more tight through clipping utilizing vertical and horizontal projection about binarized ROI. Numerical character segmentation in the detected ROI is stably achieved in two processes of 'vertical segmentation of each number region' and 'number segmentation in the each vertical segmented number region'. Through the experiments about a homegrown meter image database containing various meter type images of low contrast, low intensity, shadow, and saturation, it is shown that the proposed numeric character segmentation method performs effectively well for any metering device types under diverse illumination environments.

  • It is essential for living donor liver transplantation that surgeon must understand the hepatic vessel structure to improve the success rate of operation. In this paper, we extract the liver boundary without other surrounding structures such as heart, stomach, and spleen using the contrast enhanced MDCT liver image sequence. After that, we extract the major hepatic veins (left, middle, right hepatic vein) with morphological filter after review the basic structure of hepatic vessel which reside in segmented liver image region. The purpose of this study is provide the overall status of transplantation operation with size estimation of resection part which is dissected along with the middle hepatic vein. The method of liver extraction is as follows: firstly, we get rid of background and muscle layer with gray level distribution ratio from sampling process. secondly, the coincident images match with unit mesh image are unified with resulted image using the corse coordinate of liver and body. thirdly, we extract the final liver image after expanding and region filling. Using the segmented liver images, we extract the hepatic vessels with morphological filter and reversed the major hepatic vessels only with a results of ascending order of vessel size. The 3D reconstructed views of hepatic vessel are generated after applying the interpolation to provide the smooth view. These 3D view are used to estimate the dissection line after identify the middle hepatic vein. Finally, the volume of resection region is calculated and we can identify the possibility of successful transplantation operation.

  • Biologist must have to do 2DGE biological experiment for Protein Search and Analysis. This experiment coming into being 2 dimensional image. 2DGE (2D Gel Electrophoresis : two dimensional gel electrophoresis) image is the most widely used method for isolating of the objective protein by comparative analysis of the protein spot pattern in the gel plane. The process of protein spot analysis, firstly segment protein spots that are spread in 2D gel plane by image processing and can find important protein spots through comparative analysis with protein pattern of contrast group. In the algorithm which detect protein spots, previous 2DGE image analysis is applies gaussian fitting, however recently Watersheds region based segmentation algorithm, which is based on morphological segmentation is applied. Watersheds has the benefit that segment rapidly needed field in big sized image, however has under-segmentation and over-segmentation of spot area when gray level is continuous. The drawback was somewhat solved by marker point institution, but needs the split and merge process. This paper introduces a novel marker search of protein spots by watersheds-based hierarchical threshold, which can resolve the problem of marker-driven watersheds.

  • Evaluation of three-dimensional ore body modeling has been performed by applying the geostatistical integration technique to multiple geophysical (electrical resistivity, MT) and geological (borehole data, physical properties of core) information. It was available to analyze the resistivity range in borehole and other area through multiple geophysical data. A correlation between resistivity and density from physical properties test of core was also analyzed. In the case study results, the resistivity value of ore body is decreased contrast to increase of the density, which seems to be related to a reason that the ore body (magnetite) includes heavy conductive component (Fe) in itself. Based on the lab test of physical properties in iron mine region, various geophysical, geological and borehole data were used to provide ore body modeling, that is electrical resistivity, MT, physical properties data, borehole data and grade data obtained from borehole data. Of the various geostatistical techniques for the integrated data analysis, in this study, the SGS (sequential Gaussian simulation) method was applied to describe the varying non-homogeneity depending on region through the realization that maintains the mean and variance. With the geostatistical simulation results of geophysical, geological and grade data, the location of residual ore body and ore body which is previously reported was confirmed. In addition, another highly probable region of iron ore bodies was estimated deeper depth in study area through integrated modeling.

  • This paper introduces a 'divide-and-conquer' algorithm to the travelling salesman problem (TSP). Top 10n are selected beforehand from a pool of n(n-1) data which are sorted in the ascending order of each vertex's distance. The proposed algorithm then firstly selects partial paths that are interconnected with the shortest distance $r_1=d\{v_i,v_j\}$ of each vertex $v_i$ and assigns them as individual regions. For $r_2$, it connects all inter-vertex edges within the region and inter-region edges are connected in accordance with the connection rule. Finally for $r_3$, it connects only inter-region edges until one whole Hamiltonian cycle is constructed. When tested on TSP-1(n=26) and TSP-2(n=42) of real cities and on a randomly constructed TSP-3(n=50) of the Euclidean plane, the algorithm has obtained optimal solutions for the first two and an improved one from that of Valenzuela and Jones for the third. In contrast to the brute-force search algorithm which runs in n!, the proposed algorithm runs at most 10n times, with the time complexity of $O(n^2)$.
