  • The outbreak of Newcastle disease occurred for the first time at a commercial chicken farm near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in August 2010. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) obtained from infected chickens in Mongolia was characterized by biological and molecular biological approches. Mongolian NDV isolate killed all of chicken embryos within 60 h in the mean death time assay, indicating virulent for chicken. A genomic region of 695 nts between nts 1055 of the M gene and 508 of the F gene was amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced. The deduced amino acid sequence of the F protein cleavage site was $^{112}RRQKRF^{117}$, which is a typical sequence of velogenic strains of NDV and is agreement with the result of the MDT assay. The sequence of the partial F gene (nts 47 to 435) was used for genotyping by phylogenetic analysis. The phylogenetic analysis showed that the Mongolian isolate was of genotype VII within class II of NDV. Further phylogenetic analysis on the genotype VII strains revealed that the isolates placed in a genetic sublineage of VIId and most closely related with velogenic strains of NDV circulating in Far-east Asian region especially China, suggesting the introduction of velogenic NDV into Mongolia from neighboring countries.

  • In this paper, the input pattern vectors are extracted and the learning algorithms is designed to recognize taste(bitter, sweet, sour and salty) pattern vectors. The signal intensity of taste are used to compose the input pattern vectors. The SOM(Self Organizing Maps) algorithm for taste pattern recognition is used to learn initial reference vectors and the ot-star learning algorithm is used to determine the class of the output neurons of the sunclass layer. The weights of the proposed algorithm which is between the input layer and the subclass layer can be learned to determine initial reference vectors by using SOM algorithm and to learn reference vectors by using LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) algorithm. The pattern vectors are classified into subclasses by neurons in the subclass layer, and the weights between subclass layer and output layer are learned to classify the classified subclass, which is enclosed a class. To classify the pattern vectors, the proposed algorithm is simulated with ones of the conventional LVQ, and it is confirmed that the proposed learning method is more successful classification than the conventional LVQ.

  • Purpose : The aim of the present study was to investigate the disagreement of cephalometric analysis depending on the reference determination of midsagittal plane on three-dimensional computed tomography. Materials and Methods : A total of 102 young women with class III dentofacial deformity were evaluated using three-dimensional computed tomography. The cranial and facial midsagittal planes were defined and the amounts of jaw deviation were calculated. The amounts of jaw deviation were compared with paired t-test (2-tailed) and Bland-Altman plot was drawn. Results : The landmark tracing were reproducible ($r{\ge}.978$). The jaws relative to the cranial midsagittal plane were 10-17 times more significantly deviated than to the facial midsagittal plane (P<.001). Bland-Altman plot demonstrated that the differences between the amounts of jaw deviation from two midsagittal planes were not normally distributed versus the average of the amounts of jaw deviation from two midsagittal planes. Conclusion : The cephalometric analyses of facial asymmetry were significantly inconsistent depending on the reference determination of midsagittal plane. The reference for midsagittal plane should be carefully determined in three-dimensional cephalometric analysis of facial asymmetry of patients with class III dentofacial deformity.

  • This paper presents the fabrication and performance evaluation of zinc oxide varistors for the arresters used for station system. ZnO varistors were fabricated with typical ceramic production methods and the structural and electrical characteristics were investigated. All varistors exhibited high density, which were in the range of $5.41{\sim}5.49g/cm^3$. In the electrical properties the reference voltage increased in the range of $4.410{\sim}5.250kV$ with increasing their thickness and the residual voltage exhibited the same trends as the reference voltage. In the long duration current impulse withstand test, E-2 and F-1 samples failed in the two and four shots, respectively, but E-1 and F-2 samples survived 18 shots during the test. Before and after this test, the variation ratio of residual voltage of E-1 and F-2 samples were -0.34% and 0.05%, respectively, which were in the acceptance range of 5%. According to the results of tests, it is thought that if the fabrication process such as insulating coating, sintering condition, and soldering method is improved, these ZnO varistors would be possible to apply to the station class arresters in the new future.

  • This paper presents a new method for classification of underwater transient signals, which employs frame-based decision with Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients(MFCC). The MFCC feature vector is extracted frame-by-frame basis for an input signal that is detected as a transient signal, and Euclidean distances are calculated between this and all MFCC feature. vectors in the reference database. Then each frame of the detected input signal is mapped to the class having minimum Euclidean distance in the reference database. Finally the input signal is classified as the class that has maximum mapping rate in the reference database. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is very promising for classification of underwater transient signals.

  • Because the harmonic disturbance characteristic which makes voltage drop and the deterioration of instantaneous power quality in electrical power system overheats the NGR and the customer capacitor and malfunctions the OCGR and AMR, it is necessary for electric power company to take active measures to reduce this disturbance. International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) 61000-3-2 specifies limits for harmonic current emissions generated by low voltage(LV) electrical equipment whose input current $\leq$ 16(A) per phase. Analysis shows that limits for Class A equipment in IEC are calculated using the reference impedance of LV system and maximum permissible voltage and limits for other Classes are also calculated based on limits for Class A. Therefore we have calculated four(4) internal limits for LV electrical equipment using the korea reference impedance and maximum permissible voltage in this paper.

  • Existing LDA uses the transform matrix that maximizes distance between classes. So we have to convert from an image to one-dimensional vector as training vector. However, in 2D-LDA, we can directly use two-dimensional image itself as training matrix, so that the classification performance can be enhanced about 20% comparing LDA, since the training matrix preserves the spatial information of two-dimensional image. However 2D-LDA uses same calculation schema for transformation matrix and therefore both LDA and 2D-LDA has the heteroscedastic problem which means that the class classification cannot obtain beneficial information of spatial distances of class clusters since LDA uses only data correlation-based covariance matrix of the training data without any reference to distances between classes. In this paper, we propose a new method to apply training matrix of 2D-LDA by using WPS-LDA idea that calculates the reciprocal of distance between classes and apply this weight to between class scatter matrix. The experimental result shows that the discriminating power of proposed 2D-LDA with weighted between class scatter has been improved up to 2% than original 2D-LDA. This method has good performance, especially when the distance between two classes is very close and the dimension of projection axis is low.

  • Objectives : Standardization and clear description of locating acupuncture points guarantees reproducibility and credibility of the results in animal studies of acupuncture points and meridians. In this study, we aimed at analyzing the acupoint description of the previous experimental studies and suggesting guidelines for related journals. Methods : We searched animal studies where acupuncture points were used in Journal of Korean Acupuncture & Moxibustion Society and Journal of Meridian & Acupoint with a limitation of period, from 2002 to 2006. Data on experimental animals, acupuncture points and their descriptions were extracted and put in a predefined form. They were classified as one of the 4 classes; A) descriptions of the acupuncture points present, B) no description of the acupuncture points and only reference provided, C) neither description of the acupuncture points nor reference provided, or D) acupuncture point detector used. Two authors independently extracted and classified the data and the disagreements were resolved by discussion. Experts were invited to rate acupuncture point description validity on a numeric rating scale in the 11-item questionnaire. Results : Two hundred and five studies were identified and classified as follows; A) 32.2% (n=66), B) 7.8% (n=16), C) 51.2% (n=105), and D) 8.8% (n=18). Experts ratings were significantly lower for class C (mean${\pm}$SD, 2.14${\pm}$1.35, 95% CI [1.90, 2.39], P = 0.004 compared with class B, P ${\leq}$ 0.001 compared with class A or C) and no difference was found between classes A, B, and D. Conclusions : Reporting of acupuncture points in experimental animals is poor and validity and reliability of the result from such reporting is hampered. We suggest that journal editors and experts provide guidelines for reporting animal acupuncture points and adopt them into guide for authors for related journals.
