This study conducted a subjective evaluation of brightness perception and visual discomfort according to dimming speeds and CCTs(Correlated Color Temperatures). Dimming speeds of two different CCT lights(2,700K, 6400K) were set to 1.7%/s, 3.3%/s, 5.0%/s, 6.7%/s, and 10.0%/s respectively. Subjects checked the time when they perceived the change of the brightness and visual discomfort. As a result, when dimming speeds were 1.7%/s, 3.3%/s, 5.0%/s, 6.7%/s, more than half of subjects responded the change of the brightness in 55.0~45.0% dimming ratios, and felt the visual discomfort in 35~25% dimming ratios. When the brightness was changed, dimming level responded to the brightness perception of hight CCT(6,400K) was higher about 8.0% then dimming level responded to the brightness perception of low CCT(2,700K). Dimming level responded to the visual discomfort of low CCT(2,700K) was higher about 5.0% then dimming level responded to the visual discomfort of hight CCT(6,400K).
Glass Envelope is vulnerable to insulation performance and controling solar radiation. Insulation performance is consistently improving these days due to recent building energy saving policy in South Korea. However, solar control at glass envelope is still limited to meeting requirements of ideal high performance. Generally, Inside Blind plays an important role of solar control instead of glass which have a characteristics of transmitted solar. Unfortunately, most of them are controled by occupants and which method is not resonable in building energy. Therefore, achieving the high efficient performance building, automated control blind system considering reduction of building loads have to be adopted. Furthermore, considering occupants visual comport about removing discomfort glare is also essential.
Purpose: It is difficult to objectively evaluate the outcomes of plastic surgical procedures. The combination of aesthetic and medical factors makes outcome quantification difficult. In this study, fracture reduction accuracy was objectively evaluated in patients with zygomatic complex fractures. Patients satisfaction with the accuracy was also examined. In addition, the patients' overall satisfaction and discomfort due to complications were analyzed. Methods: Eighty-five patients who had surgeries via bicoronal incision for zygomatic complex fracture from March 2006 to December 2009 were included in this study. Two plastic surgeons evaluated the accuracy of the fracture reduction with postoperative computed tomography. A survey questionnaire was administered to evaluate the patients' overall satisfaction and the impact of symptoms associated with the procedure on the patients' daily lives. Results: The overall patient satisfaction rate was $82.1{\pm}10.9%$ (range, 45~100%). The level of deformation was $6.7{\pm}10.9%$, the levels of discomfort in daily life due to pain, paresthesia, scar, and facial palsy were $8.5{\pm}13.2%$, $5.8{\pm}8.9%$, $4.4{\pm}9.9%$, and $1.9{\pm}9.2%$, respectively. According to the visual analogue scale, paresthesia was found to be the most frequent symptom (43.5%), and pain was the most troublesome symptom. Conclusion: The use of bicoronal incision for treating zygomatic complex fractures can cause various complications due to wide incision and dissection. However, this technique can provide optimized reduction and rigid fixation. Most of these postoperative complications can cause significant discomfort in the patient. It is thought that the use of correct surgical technique and the accurate knowledge of craniofacial anatomy will result in a reduction of complications and significantly increase patient satisfaction.
Objectives : The aim of this study is to report a case showing rapid skin regeneration and recovery by applying Korean medicine treatment to lower extremity ulcer. Methods : We treated a female patient with idiopathic right leg ulcer by Korean medicine treatment such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, Coptidis Rhizoma distillate wet dressing, and Jawoongo application. The treatment effect was evaluated by visual observation through photography, measurement of the area of the affected area, NRS(Numeral Rating Scale) for the level of discomfort, DLQI(Dermatology life quality index), and treatment satisfaction. Results : After Korean medicine treatment, recovery of skin tissue, reduction in affected area, and decrease in NRS for discomfort and DLQI were observed, and satisfaction with Korean medicine treatment was also high at 80%. Conclusions : This study shows that Korean medicine treatment can be effective in treating skin ulcers. Purpose: Dental fear hinders patients from receiving appropriate dental treatment. In particular, the noise generated by high-speed air turbines and ultrasonic scalers can adversely affect patients. Many efforts have been made to reduce the discomfort caused by noise, but no methods are definitively recommended. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of active noise-canceling (ANC) headphones in reducing the pain and discomfort associated with dental scaling. Methods: Fifty-five patients requiring scaling and root planing, aged ≥19 years and showing no auditory problems, were included. Scaling was performed for the bilateral maxillary molars and premolars while patients wore headphones, with ANC turned either on or off. The degree of noise and pain reduction in the on and off conditions were surveyed using a visual analog scale (VAS). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was performed to compare noise-and pain-related discomfort with ANC turned on and off. Results: The sample included 28 men and 27 women with a mean age of 45.45±13.12 years. The average noise-related discomfort score was 3.84±2.12 and 2.95±1.99 when noise-canceling was turned off and on, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Similarly, the average pain-related discomfort score was 3.78h±2.00 and 3.09±1.96 when noise-canceling was turned off and on, respectively, which was a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusions: The use of ANC headphones seems to reduce the discomfort caused by noise and pain in patients undergoing scaling.

Background: Packing after closed reduction of nasal fracture causes uncomfortable nasal obstruction in patients. We packed the superior meatus with synthetic polyurethane foam (SPF) to support the nasal bone, and packed the middle nasal meatus with a nasal airway splint (NAS) and SPF. The aim of this article is prospectively to compare the subjective patient discomfort of SPF (Nasopore Forte plus) packing alone and SPF with NAS. Methods: We compared the prospectively subjective patient discomfort of SPF packing alone (group A) and SPF with NAS (group B) via visual analog scale (VAS; 0, no symptom; 100, most severe symptom). Results: At first postoperative day group B showed significant lower scores in dry mouth, sleep disturbance, conversation difficulty. However at third postoperative day, VAS scores of each group had no statistically significant differences. Moreover at fifth postoperative day group A had statistically significant lower scores for nasal pain, dry mouth than the group B. Conclusion: Combination method of using NAS and SPF have some advantage on the patient comfort from first postoperative day to third postoperative day.
Background: Recently, a piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler based on a feedback control mechanism was introduced for pain relief. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a new ultrasonic scaler in reducing pain and discomfort in adults. Methods: A newly introduced ultrasonic scaler (Master 700®) was used as the test device and a conventional ultrasonic scaler device (PIEZON®) was used as the control device. Forty-one healthy adults visited the dental clinic for dental scaling but did not undergo scaling or periodontal treatment within 6 months. Intraoral examinations were performed before scaling and 3 months later; before scaling, both devices were randomly assigned on the left or right side of each dentition (split-mouth model) and scaling was performed by a registered dental hygienist. The levels of pain and discomfort during scaling were evaluated subjectively and objectively using the visual analog scale (VAS) and physiological monitoring of the heart rate (HR), respectively. Time was measured for each device. Results: All clinical indicators, except bleeding on probing, significantly improved with both devices. The treatment times were 7 minutes, 13 minutes (control) and 6 minutes, 59 minutes (test). VAS scores for pain were 4.89±2.12 (control) and 4.58±2.77 (test) points out of 10; for noise, these were 4.68±2.33 (control) and 4.55±2.55 (test), and for vibration, the values were 4.26±2.0 (control) and 4.18±2.48 (test). HR averages were 72.34±3.39 (control) and 75.97±9.78 (test) beats/min. No statistically significant differences were observed between the devices. Conclusion:The pain, discomfort levels, and scaling time of the new piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler did not differ from those of the conventional device. Further research and development are necessary for more prominent pain-relief effects of scaling devices.
This case study reports patients suffering from migraine and vertigo had treated with Samul-tang plus Yijin-tang Gamibang. Two patients had taken Samul-tang and Yijin-tang Gamibang three times a day during hospitalization in oriental hospital. One patient had been hospitalized for 2 weeks and other had been for 3weeks. We control dose of added herbs according to other symptoms like dyspepsia, sleep discomfort, flushing, heating sense and diarrhea for each patients. We measure migraine by migraine disability assessment (MIDAS) and dizziness by korean dizziness handicap inventory (KDHI). Also we measure overall improvement with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The main symptoms had been steadily decreased to VAS2. Patient complaing of dyspepsia, heating sense, flushing had been improved with reduction of dyspepsia and patient with diarrhea, abdominal discomofort had been improved following reduction of diarrhea. Two patients didn't agree with study because this paper was written following retrospective study but patients claimed no side effect. Samul-tang plus Yijin-tang Gamibang may be considered as a treatment of migrainous vertigo with digestive problems.
