This paper analyzed distribution network reliability related with the increment of outages and duration time according to distribution facilities increasing. KEPCO introduced distribution automation system in 1998 which could recognize outage section by remotely monitoring the fault current and reduce the blackout area by remotely controlling distribution switches. As the result of this outage time reduction using distribution automation system, the minimum distribution automation rate was fined out in this paper on the base of analyzing diverse data and how many switches were used in distribution system to improve distribution network reliability at the situation of distribution facilities increasing. This result can be used as the model that an overseas utility company applies distribution automation system in the future.

This paper presents a comparative analysis of the parallel operation of different switches in a DC/DC converter. In high power applications, multi-switch PWM power conditioners may be preferred despite a higher component count, due to the absence of low frequency filters, reduced switching losses and fault tolerance. The paper demonstrates how current sharing (CSH) and time sharing (TSH) lead to the reduction of switching stress in the parallel operation of switches in any converter. The solutions proposed in this study can be applied on different scales to other power conditioners for DC/DC converter systems. Discussions of the concepts, hypotheses and computer simulations are verified by 1 kW experimental results.
Currently, Korea is an aging society and is expected to become a super-aged society in about four years. X-ray devices are widely used for early diagnosis in hospitals, and many X-ray technologies are being developed. The development of X-ray device technology is important, but it is also important to increase the reliability of the device through accurate data management. Sensor nodes such as temperature, voltage, and current of the diagnosis device may malfunction or transmit inaccurate data due to various causes such as failure or power outage. Therefore, in this study, the temperature, tube voltage, and tube current data related to each sensor and detection circuit of the diagnostic X-ray imaging device were measured and analyzed. Based on QC data, device failure prediction and diagnosis algorithms were designed and performed. The fault diagnosis algorithm can configure a simulator capable of setting user parameter values, displaying sensor output graphs, and displaying signs of sensor abnormalities, and can check the detection results when each sensor is operating normally and when the sensor is abnormal. It is judged that efficient device management and diagnosis is possible because it monitors abnormal data values (temperature, voltage, current) in real time and automatically diagnoses failures by feeding back the abnormal values detected at each stage. Although this algorithm cannot predict all failures related to temperature, voltage, and current of diagnostic X-ray imaging devices, it can detect temperature rise, bouncing values, device physical limits, input/output values, and radiation-related anomalies. exposure. If a value exceeding the maximum variation value of each data occurs, it is judged that it will be possible to check and respond in preparation for device failure. If a device's sensor fails, unexpected accidents may occur, increasing costs and risks, and regular maintenance cannot cope with all errors or failures. Therefore, since real-time maintenance through continuous data monitoring is possible, reliability improvement, maintenance cost reduction, and efficient management of equipment are expected to be possible.

A great deal of study for loss reduction of photovoltaic system is conducted currently. It is hard to distinct the fault of photovoltaic system with the naked eye. For that reason, it is essential to repair and maintain the PV system by monitoring the system. The fault of individual modules can cause the huge loss of the entire system because of the mismatch. Therefore, the method of diagnosing the PV array is necessary by measuring the multi-channel arrays simultaneously. In this paper, it is presented the method of measuring I-V curve of multi-channel arrays simultaneously by using the charge and discharge characteristics of capacitor. Generated DC power at PV arrays is charged and discharged at the capacitors in a moment. By measuring the charged voltage and current, it is possible to diagnose of performance of PV arrays.

This paper proposes a LVRT (Low Voltage Ride Through) control strategy which should be satisfied by grid-connected wind power system when grid faults occur. The LVRT regulation indicates rules or actions which have to be executed according to the voltage dip ratio and the fault duration. Especially the wind power system has to support the grid with specified reactive current to secure the grid stability when voltage reduction ratio is over 10%. The LVRT regulation in this paper is based on the German Grid Code and full-scale variable speed wind power conversion system is considered for LVRT control strategy. The proposed LVRT control strategy satisfies not only LVRT regulation but also makes power balance between wind turbine and power system through additional DC link voltage regulation algorithms. Because it is impossible to control grid side power when the 3-phase to ground fault occurs, the DC link voltage is controlled by a generator side inverter using the DC link voltage control strategy. Through the simulation and experiment result, the proposed LVRT control strategy is evaluated and its effectiveness is verified.

Dispersed generation (DG) such as wind power (WP) and Photovoltaic systems (PV) that has been promoted at the national level recently is mainly being introduced into distribution systems adjacent to consumers because it is generation on a small scale when compared to current generation. Due to its characteristics, DG can be operated by interconnection with distribution systems to present security of more stable power and efficient use of power facilities and resources. Problems on protection coordination of distribution systems by reverse flow of DG can roughly be divided into three possibilities: excess in rated breaking capacity (12.5KA) of protective devices by a fault in DG current supply, failure to operate protective devices by an apparent effect that can occur by reduction in impedance parallel circuit fault current due to interconnection of DG, and malfunction of protective devices by interconnection transformer connection type. The purpose of this study is to analyze problems in protection coordination that can occur when DG is operated by interconnection with distribution systems by conducting modeling and simulations by using theoretical symmetrical components and MATLAB/SIMULINK to present methods to improve such problems.

Recently, with the world-wide issues about global warming and CO2 reduction, a number of distributed generations(DGs) such as photovoltaic(PV) and wind power(WP), are interconnected with the distribution systems. However, DGs can change the direction of the power flow from one-direction to bi-direction, and also change the direction and amount of fault current of existing distribution systems. Therefore, it may cause the critical problems on the power quality and protection coordination. This paper proposes an operation algorithm for bi-directional protection coordination using and apply it for the evaluation system for protection coordination. From the simulation results It is found that the proposed method is more effective and convenient than existing method.
According to the records, approximately 50 percent of power failure were caused by lightning. Conventional fault preventive measures against lightning include reduction of the footing resistance of the tower, multiplication of overhead ground wires and unbalanced insulation of the double circuit transmission tower. In addition to these, transmission line arresters have been recently appeared as an alternatives. In this paper an unbalanced insulation method with transmission line arrester was assumed as another countermeasure against simultaneous double circuit trip of 154 kV transmission line by lightning strike. The lightning performance of line arrester was compared with conventional insulation concept using different numbers of porcelain and glass insulator. Larger numbers of insulator simply increase flashover current level by lightning but the lightning performance doesn't proportional to it. EMTP simulation and predictive calculation of lightning failure rate were carried out to evaluate the performance.
Noise and vibration are likely to disturb the sensory system of human body leading to psychological stress and thereby property damage. In this research, a cut out switch(COS) with a built-in acoustic absorber along with a COS fuse broken was developed to reduce percussion noise. This new system is based on a design approach that combines existing absorber systems: expansion type, resonator type, and acoustic absorber type silencer The noise performance of the new system was simulated using the $SYSNOISE^{TM}$ software under optimized parameters: the diameter of perforated plate 2 mm, the plate thickness 3 mm, the width of expansion room 25 mm, the impinging vortex room 14 mm, and the noise absorbtion room 10 mm. The results showed that it reduced noise by approximately 41.1 dB compared to the current systems available in the market. Furthermore, it showed reduced noise by approximately 12 dB more than a product with an acoustic absorber of the Fault Tamer(USA).

In order to make reliable earthquake-resistant design of civil engineering structures, one of the most important considerations in a region with high seismicity is to pay attention to the local soil condition of regions. It is aimed in the current study at specifying dynamic soil characteristics of Kirikkale city center conducting the 1-D equivalent linear and non-linear site response analyses. Due to high vulnerability and seismicity of the city center of Kirikkale surrounded by active many faults, such as the North Anatolian Fault (NAF), the city of Kirikkale is classified as highly earthquake-prone city. The first effort to determine critical site response parameter is to perform the seismic hazard analyses of the region through the earthquake record catalogues. The moment magnitude of the city center is obtained as $M_w=7.0$ according to the recorded probability of exceedance of 10% in the last 50 years. Using the data from site tests, the 1-D equivalent linear (EL) and nonlinear site response analyses (NL) are performed with respect to the shear modulus reduction and damping ratio models proposed in literature. The important engineering parameters of the amplification ratio, predominant site period, peak ground acceleration (PGA) and spectral acceleration values are predicted. Except for the periods between the period of T=0.2-1.0 s, the results from the NL are obtained to be similar to the EL results. Lower spectral acceleration values are estimated in the locations of the city where the higher amplification ratio is attained or vice-versa. Construction of high-rise buildings with modal periods higher than T=1.0 s are obtained to be suitable for the city of Kirikkale. The buildings at the city center are recommended to be assessed with street survey rapid structural evaluation methods so as to mitigate seismic damages. The obtained contour maps in this study are estimated to be effective for visually characterizing the city in terms of the considered parameters.
