  • The purpose of this study is to fashion-design the image of Cleopatra on the basis of Cleopatra's characteristic, clothing and its symbolic meaning shown in movie . In movie , Cleopatra(69B.C-30B.C) is described as passionate, intelligent, dignified person and even as enchantress. Costume that Cleopatra wears compound the type of ancient Egyptian costume in New Kingdom, the change of it, and the trend in the 1960's. Their color and pattern also symbolizes religion by adding ancient Egyptian myths to show the absolute royal authority. Therefore, design concepts, determined on the base of Cleopatra's characteristic and symbol meaning, are applied to make creative costume with Cleopatra's image of God Isis. In order to show Cleopatra's dignity, confidence, territorial ambition, black is used as a general base color. To represend Cleopatra's passion and the image of Isis, red is used. And the word 'Kemeto' represents all these symbols. As a whole, dress named 'Kemeto of Cleopatra' is designed and created.

A Study on Image Perception of Design Elements -Using Depth Interview Method on Color, Pattern of Clothing- (의복 디자인요소의 이미지 지각에 대한 연구 -색, 무늬를 중심을 한 심층면적-)

  • The research was designed to find out the effects of design elements ; ①color, ②pattern, on image perception of clothing by using a qualitative depth interview method. The subjects were 40 women who lived in Taejon and aged 20 to 40. The interview results were both hand recorded and tape recorded for further analysis by researchers and judge groups. And the results were as follows. 1. The most preferred colors appeared to be blue and black, while stripes, checks and flowers were most favorite patterns. 2. There were individual difference in color and pattern perception, however the color image of yellow was brightness, red was dashing, green comfortable, blue cool, and black tightness. The image of geometric pattern was modesty and natural motif pattern was dynamics. 3. The tow major forces which affected the image of design elements were appeared as followed : 1) Color images affected by the image of natural objects which obtained the color. 2) Individuals past experience and emotional status also affected the personal image perception. 4. The color and pattern preference for the Koran traditional customes and Western tow piece were significantly different and this result imply cultural stereotyping on image perception of design elements. On conclusion, the results supported the research model of form perception and image evaluation.

The Representation of Feminization in Men's Fashion in Korea Since the 1990's (1990년대 이후 국내 남성복의 여성화경향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the men's fashion with the representation of Feminization which has appeared on our specialized fashion magazine from 1990 though 2003. Firstly, the factor which exposed the representation of Feminization in men's fashion were the change of conventional sex role, the change of ideal beauty, the variety of information, the pursuit of personality and the polycentrism of thought. Secondly, the formative characteristics of Feminization in men's fashion represented fitted silhouettes which distinctively show the body line, elastic fabric and see-through fabric of androgynous image, accessory and wave hair which expressed in gentle image. In colors, it represented vivid tone, pastel tone, red colors and yellow colors. Fitted silhouttes and elastic fabric has a effect of minimalism of the last 1990's fashion, and wave hair of gentle image has a effect of change of ideal beauty since 2000. Therefore, elements of representation of Feminization in men's fashion were silhoutte, fabric, color, accessory, hairstyle and the representation of feminity in men's fashion has referance to fashion.

The Effect of Tone-on-Tone Coloration on the Visual Image of Traditional Korean Dress (톤 온 톤 배색이 한복 착용자의 이미지에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of tone-on-tone coloration on the visual images of traditional Korean dress. The materials in the experiment developed for this study were made up of various stimuli and the response scales for each stimulus. The stimuli were 48 color pictures with various combination of colors, in which the tones of jackets and skirts were manipulated by computer drawing. 24 bi-polar adjectives, each of which was graded into seven in its degree, were used to evaluate each image. The subjects were 576 female students in Jinju City. This experiment was based on the $3{\times}4{\times}4$ factorial designs: color (red, yellow and green), jacket tone (vivid, light, dull and dark) and skirt tone (vivid, light, dull and dark). The results of the study can be summarized as follows; Impression factor of the stimuli consisted of the 5 different dimensions - youthfullness and activity, attractiveness, gracefullness, visibility, and tenderness. The colors and the tone of jackets and skirts used in this experiment influenced 5 impression dimension by interaction of two valuables or working independently. Yellow and green with vivid or light tone had an effect on the formation of youth and activity image, and dark-light combination had an effect on the formation of attractiveness image. In case of green color, light tone of a jacket and vivid or dull tone of a skirt affected gracefulness, while yellow has no impact on visibility image regardless of skirt tone. Red and yellow with vivid or light tone were a factor to decide tenderness.

A Study on the Red Carpet Dress of Film Festivals in the Great China Region

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the basic materials necessary for red carpet fashion design by examining the formativeness and fashion images of red carpet dresses at film festivals in the Great China Region. For the purpose of this study, research methods include a literature review on the origin and significance of red carpet dresses, the characteristics of film festivals in the Great China Region and their red carpet dresses as well as an analysis of the formative features and images of 615 red carpet dresses collected from each film festival official homepage, diverse media articles, and online search sites (www.google.com, www.hao123.com). The research finding can be summarized as follows: First, the formative features of red carpet dress designs were analyzed herein. It was found that the most frequently appearing type of silhouette was straight followed by hourglass and bulk in order. More specifically these included fit and flare, mermaid, trapeze, and slim in order. For the neckline styles, strapless was the most frequently seen followed by camisole, jewel, and one shoulder. Solid colors were more often seen than multiple colors. Bk, W, R, and YR were the most frequent main solid colors in order. Solid materials were frequent as well, such as soft and shiny materials. Non-patterned and unadorned styles were most frequent as for pattern types and details and trimmings. Second, the fashion images of red carpet dresses in the Great China Region were analyzed. The most frequent images were elegant, feminine, ethnic, modern, classic, avant-garde, others, mannish and sportive, in order.

A Study on the Visual Evaluation of Coloration of the Shirts and Neckties (셔츠와 넥타이의 배색에 대한 시각적 평가 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of the visual image evaluation according to coloration of men's dress shirts and neckties, and perceiver's gender. Subjects were 336 males and females living in Seoul. Five dimensions of visual evaluation were derived by factor analysis: elegance/intelligence, sociability, potency/attractiveness, individuality, and manliness. White shirts were evaluated highly in elegance/intelligence, and blue shirts were shown the manliest. Women evaluated the blue shirts manlier than men did. Dark blue neckties were evaluated highly in elegance/intelligence and sociability, and red ties were perceived to be very distinctive. Black shirts and white shirts with silvery gray ties were perceived to be the most elegant and intelligent. Blue shirts with dark blue ties was evaluated highly in sociability and potency/attractiveness, and black shirts with yellow ties were evaluated the highest in individuality. The evaluations of elegance/intelligence, potency/attractiveness, and manliness had significant interaction effects between the color of shirts and neckties. White shirts and blue shirts with dark blue ties were perceived to be more elegant and intelligent, potent, attractive and manlier than with red ties.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of eyeshadow color (brown, purple, and blue), lipstick color (red, orange, and purple), and lipstick tone(vivid, light, dull, and dark) on the makeup image. The experimental materials used for this study were sets of stimulus and response scales (7 point semantic). The stimuli were 36 color pictures manipulated with the combination of eyeshadow color, lipstick color, and lipstick tone using computer simulation. The subjects were 216 female undergraduates living in Jinju city. The data was analyzed by using SPSS program. Analyzing methods were ANOVA and Duncan test. The result of this study are as follows. Image factor of the stimulus was composed of 4 different components (attractiveness and gracefulness, visibility, cuteness, and softness), Among them, the attractiveness and gracefulness and the visibility were important. Each dimensional image was affected by color coordination of eyeshadow color, lipstick color and lipstick tone. Therefore, the face image through matching eyeshadow and lipstick could be varied by the eyeshadow color, lipstick color and tones.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the impression dimension and to elucidate the image perception depending on the tone of the Korean jacket and Korean skirt using the tone-on-tone coloration. As stimulators, the became same color by making the skirt and jacket red, yellow, and green at the same time. After the skirt and jacket became four kinds of tones, vivid, light, dull, and dark by altering value and fuing chroma in the assembled color, these tone-on-tone coloration stimulators $48(3\times4\times4)$ were used for the investigation of this study. Impression factor of the stimulus consisted of the 5 different dimensions(youthfulness and activity, attractiveness, gracefulness, concentration of attention, tenderness). Among these factors, youthfulness and activity, attractiveness were proved to be more important. In the tone-on-tone coloration of a Korean skirt and a Korean jacket, each dimensional image was affected by the character of color, also the evaluation of countenance showed the meaningful difference depending on tone. Thus, we can comprehend that the influence of tone as well as color affects the evaluation of an image.

The Image Evaluation according to Checked Pattern Variable of Casual Shirts -Focus on Tone-in-Tone Coloration- (캐주얼 셔츠의 체크패턴 변인에 따른 이미지 평가 -톤 인 톤 배색을 중심으로-)

  • This study investigates the image of casual shirts according to color combination, tone, and interval of checked pattern in tone-in-tone coloration. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales. The stimuli were 24 color pictures, in which color combination (RY: Red+Yellow, BP: Blue+Purple), tone (light, dull, dark), and interval (0.5cm, 1.5cm, 3.5cm, and 5.5cm) were manipulated. The 7-point scale was used for evaluation of image. Data were obtained from 240 female college students living in Seoul, Gwangju, Jinju, and Changwon in April 2010. For data analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test were used by using SPSS program. The results of this study are as follows. Image according to color combination, tone, and interval of checked pattern consisted of five dimensions of attractiveness, youth- activity, appeal, modesty, and freshness. The cover combination showed an independent effect on freshness. Tone showed an independent effect on attractiveness, youth-activity, appeal, and modesty. Interval showed an independent effect on appeal, modesty, and freshness. Interaction effects of color combination and tone on youth-activity and appeal were found. In addition, interaction effects of tone and interval on attractiveness, youth-activity, and freshness were also found.

A Study on the Image Perception and Preferences of the Color of Male′s Jacket, Shirt, and Necktie (남성의 재킷, 와이셔츠, 넥타이 색의 이미지 지각과 선호도 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of the color of jacket. dress shirt, necktie. and perceiver's gender on image perceptions of male, and to examine how clothing color preferences varies according to perceiver's gender and age. The stimuli of 8 pictures of male and the semantic differential scale were used to evaluate image perception. Subjects were 192 males and females in Seoul. The colors of jacket gave significant influences on perception of potency. elegance, preference, and manliness. The colors of dress shirt gave a significant influence on perception of manliness, the necktie's colors gave influences on elegance and visibility. Perceiver's gender did not give significant influences on the image perception. Visibility had an interaction effect by the colors of jacket and dress shirt. Potency and preference evaluation had interaction effects by the colors of jacket. dress shirt. and necktie. White dress shirt had positive effects on the perception of potency and preference in the case of matching with dark blue jacket and red necktie, and blue shirt had a positive effect on the perception of potency and preference in matching with dark blue jacket and blue necktie. The preference of dark grey suit and black shirt showed significant differences according to gender. Dark blue suit, white shirt, and blue shirt had significant differences according to the age group.
