Effects of operating parameters such as hydraulic retention time(HRT), recycle ratio and influent COD concentration on the performance of a continuous flow microbial fuel cell(MFC) were investigated. Decrease of HRT improved mass transfer of substrate to electrogenic microorganisms, therefore resulting in increased electrode voltage and power generation of MFC. Increase of HRT promoted COD removal by elongating retention time for COD removal in MFC. Recycling of effluent increased the COD removal and coulombic efficiencies by returning suspended microorganisms into MFC. Increase of influent COD enhanced COD removal due to the improved mass transfer of substrate. Decrease of coulombic efficiency by the increase of the HRT and influent COD concentration indicated that they enhanced the activities of fermentative bacteria.

As the effluent quality standard of the municipal wastewater treatment plant (MWTP) has been strengthened, the treatment of the recycle water containing high concentration of ammonium nitrogen has been considered as one of retrofit methods for upgrading the exising MWTPs. In this study, nitritation, economic nitrogen removal process, was induced by laboratory-scale reactor at the $35^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, and $10^{\circ}C$ temperature conditions using anaerobic digester supernatant. The stable nitritation was achieved over $20^{\circ}C$, but nitrification was induced at $10^{\circ}C$. It means that the nitritation was affected by SRT and temperature. SRT, demanded for nitritation, is changed according to the temperature. Therefore, it is considered that SRT and temperature are important factors in nitritation. Also, it is approved that inducing the ammonium nitrogen removal and the nitritation are more beneficial over $20^{\circ}C$. The conclusion of this study can be used for the important basic reference when nitritation process is applied for MWTPs.
Since the amount of red mud, generated from aluminum smelting process as a by-product, has increased worldwide, the recycle and metal resource recovery from the red mud is becoming more important. In this study, in order to recycle the red mud as a soil stabilizer to remediate arsenic contaminated soils, neutralization of red mud was investigated. Red mud was neutralized by washing with distilled water and NaCl, CaCl2, FeCl3, and HCl solutions and heating at 200-800℃, and arsenic stabilization characteristics in soils were evaluated with the neutralized red mud. Although washing with distilled water was not effective in neutralizing red mud, the application of the washed red mud to soils lowered the soil pH compared to the application of untreated red mud. Among NaCl, CaCl2, FeCl3, and HCl solutions, washing with FeCl3 showed the most effective in lowering pH of the red mud from pH 10.73 to pH 4.26. Application of the neutralized red mud in soils resulted in quite different arsenic stabilization efficiency depending on soil samples. In M1 soil, which showed relatively high arsenic stabilization efficiency by untreated red mud, the neutralization of red mud resulted in little effect on arsenic stabilization in soil. On the other hand, in M2 soil, which showed low arsenic stabilization efficiency by untreated red mud, the neutralization of red mud increased arsenic stabilization significantly. Soil characteristics such as clay minerals and pH buffering capacity seemed to affect reactions between red mud and soils, which resulted in different effects of the red mud application on soil pH and arsenic stabilization efficiencies.

This paper evaluated the quality properties of Finex Water Granulated Slag fine aggregate as part of a study to recycle the Finex Water Granulated Slag generated in korea, and examined the availability as fine aggregate for concrete by comparing properties (properties of fresh concrete, mechanical properties of hardened concrete) of concrete using Finex Water Granulated Slag fine aggregate with properties of concrete using river sand as fine aggregate. From the results of this study, it was found that quality properties of concrete using finex water granulated slag as fine aggregate and concrete using river sand as fine aggregate are equivalent level.
Tele-metering systems have been useful tools for managing domestic wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) over the last decade. They mostly generate water quality data for discharged water to ensure that it complies with mandatory regulations and they may be able to produce every operation parameter and additional measurements in the near future. A sub-big data group, comprised of about 150,000 data points from four domestic WWTPs, was ready to be classified and also analyzed to optimize the WWTP process. We used the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 25 package in order to statistically treat the data with linear regression and correlation analysis. The major independent variables for analysis were water temperature, sludge recycle rate, electricity used, and water quality of the influent while the dependent variables representing the water quality of the effluent included the total nitrogen, which is the most emphasized index for discharged flow in plants. The water temperature and consumed electricity showed a strong correlation with the total nitrogen but the other indices' mutual correlations with other variables were found to be fuzzy due to the large errors involved. In addition, a multilayer perceptron analysis method was applied to TMS data along with root mean square error (RMSE) analysis. This study showed that the RMSE in the SS, T-N, and TOC predictions were in the range of 10% to 20%.

It is really urgent to develop wastewater treatment system which is economically efficient, occupies small area for buildup, can be easily operated, discharges small amount of sludge due to the more strict water quality standard, the expensive water and energy cost and so on. This study on treatment of wastewater including nonbiodegadable materials using white-rot fungus biofilm were designed to investigate the submerged type of biofilm, hydraulic retention times, recycle rates, and module turning times. Removal efficiencies of fully exposed biofilm type in atmosphere are similar to submerged biofilm of aeration type. The optimum conditions of white-rot fungus biofilm of fully exposed type in atmosphere are HRT 3$\sim$4 hr, recycle rate 6$\sim$10 Q, module turning times 0.5$\sim$2 times/min. At this time, removal efficiencies of organics were COD$_{Cr}$ 65.0$\sim$69.9%, NBDCOD 70.4$\sim$72.7%, BOD$_5$ 88.8$\sim$90.1%, SS 84.2$\sim$90.4%. Moreover average effluent concentration of BOD$_5$(8.9 mg/L) satisfied water quality standard of heavy water(BOD$_5$ less than 10 mg/L) but concentration of NBDCOD(29.6 mg/L) was higher than water quality standard of heavy water(NBDCOD less than 20 mg/L).

Citarum river in West Java, Indonesia plays strategic roles for Jakarta metropolitan areas. Besides it provides major source of water supply such as domestics and drinking water including Jakarta, it also provides water for hundreds of industries through its cascade reservoirs. However, recently, Citarum river basin has been seriously suffering from water and groundwater pollution as well as the lowering-down of groundwater level due to the extreme use of water resources in dry season by domestic and industrial activities. This project objectives are design and installation of industrial wastewater treatment/recycle facilities to overcome the problem of water pollution and the lowering-down of groundwater level in Bandung. For these, cyclone type dissolved air flotation (DAF), CYFLOAT, was successfully installed as the appropriate technology for the target textile industry with 100 ton/day of capacity. The CYFLOAT system can remove the 96.8% of particulates, which are known as a critical factor to recycle the wastewater, within 40 min of residence time. Furthermore, The CYFLOAT system can reduce the operational cost and land use. The project was carried out in strong partnership with local institute including UNPAR, IBT, and PUSKIM for the sustainability of the technology to textile industry complex in Indonesia.
Recycled polypropylene (RPP) - Wood Saw Dust (WSD) composites with and without acetylation of filler were produced at different filler loading (15%, 25%, 35% and 45% w/w) and filler size (300, 212 and $100{\mu}m$). The RPP-WSD was compounded using a Haake Rheodrive 500 twin screw compounder at $190^{\circ}C$ at 8 MPa for 30 minutes. The mechanical properties and water absorption properties of modified and unmodified WSD-PP composites were investigated. Acetylation of WSD improved the mechanical and water absorption characteristic of composites. The decrease of filler size (300 to $100{\mu}m$) of the unmodified and acetylated WSD showed increase of tensile strength and impact properties. The composites exhibited higher tensile modulus properties as the filler loading increased (15% to 45%). However tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength showed the opposite phenomenon. Water absorption increased as the mesh number and filler loading increased. With acetylation, lower moisture absorption was observed as compared to unmodified WSD. The failure mechanism from impact fracture of the filler-matrix interface with and without acetylation was analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

The constructed closed recycling system discussed in this technical report will be economically viable in future for the production of fish and vegetable in earth, space station and space colony, further, it will contribute a lot in the prevention of pollution in the world's ecological system. To make combined system, water management (Nitrification) is required, and it took 45 days to breed microorganism which facilitates this process. After this period , the recycle was confirmed to be working .Using derived equations, the expected nutrient characteristics of waste water were determined and it was found that the resulting nutrient balance was almost same as that in hydroponic solution when KOH was added to maintain pH level. Reverse osmosis (RO) system could solve the problem of the low nutrient concentration . It was found that plants grow well in fish waste water which was produced using RO system. RO system could combine fish and plant production through the advantageous use of separated high concentration water for plant and permeated water for fish in integrated combined system.

Since the end of the 1990s, sewer pipe improvement works have been going on: most septic tanks have been thrown away and discarded. These discarded septic tanks amounts up to 370,000 based on the project plan 2005-2008: it is a serious squander of nation's resources, a contaminating means that buries toxins under soil, and a cause of a expensive waste. Research on recycling of discarded septic tank as a new resource is in urgent need. This research suggests plans to recycle discarded septic tank as a rainwater management facility, solutions to water cycle recovery in the limelight, and economic analysis of the plan. In the case of a recycling discarded septic tank as a rainwater management facility will socially benefit to support economical adequacy, discard cost saving of septic tank and water supply and sewage cost reduction will come out. Consequently a rainwater management facility converted from a discarded septic tank leads to decentralization of the rainwater management system, which anticipates a positive effect on recovery of urban water cycle.
