Comparative Studies of Frequency Estimation Method for Fault Disturbance Recorder (고장 왜란 기록기를 위한 주파수 추정 기법의 비교 연구)

  • Voltage and current phasor estimation has been executed by GPS-based synchronized PMU, which has become an important way of wide-area blackout protection for the prevention of expending faults in a power system. The PMU technique can not easily get the field data and it is impossible to share information, so that there has been used a FNET(Frequency Monitoring Network) method for the wide-area intelligent protection in USA. It consists of FDR(Fault Disturbance Recorder) and IMS(Information Management System). Therefore, FDR must provide an optimal frequency estimation method that is robust to noise and failure. In this paper, we present comparative studies for the frequency estimation method using IRDWT(Improved Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform), FRDWT(Fast Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform), and DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform). The Republic of Korea345[kV] power system modeling data by EMTP-RV are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed two kinds of RDWT(Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform) and DFT. The simulation results show that the proposed frequency estimation technique using FRDWT could be the optimal frequency measurement method, and thus be applied to FDR.

  • Power system frequency is the main index of power quality indicating an abnormal state and disturbances of systems. The nominal frequency is deviated by sudden change in generation and load or faults. Power system is used as frequency relay to detection for off-nominal frequency operation and connecting a generator to an electrical system, and V/F relay to detection for an over-excitation condition. Under these circumstances, power system should maintain the nominal frequency. And frequency and frequency deviation should accurately measure and quickly estimate by frequency measurement device. The well-known classical method, frequency estimation technique based on the DFT, could be produce the gain error in accuracy. To meet the requirements for high accuracy, recently Wavelet transforms and analysis are receiving new attention. The Wavelet analysis is possible to calculate the time-frequency analysis which is easy to obtain frequency information of signals. However, it is difficult to apply in real-time implementation because of heavy computation burdens. Nowadays, the computational methods using the Wavelet function and transformation techniques have been searched on these fields. In this paper, we apply the Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform (RDWT) for the frequency estimation. In order to evaluate performance of the proposed technique, the user-defined arbitrary waveforms are used.

Derivation of Recursive Relations in Markov Parameter for the Closed-Loop Identification

  • This paper presents a closed loop identification algorithm in time domain. This algorithm can be used for identification of unstable system and for model validation of system which is difficult to derive analytical model. In time domain, projection filter, which projects a finite number of input output data of a system into its current space, is used to relate the state space model with a finite difference model. Then recursive relations between the Markov parameters and the ARX model coefficients are derived to identify the system, controller and Kalman filter Markov parameters recursively, which are finally used to identify the system, controller and Kalman filter gains. The NASA LAMSTF is used to validate the algorithms developed.

Economic Design of Automated Spiral Parking System

  • Automated parking systems, which automatically park and retrieve vehicles, have been steadily replacing conventional parking systems. The spiral parking system is a type of automated parking systems that has cylindrical parking tower. We develop an economic design model of spiral parking system based on a recursive optimization and simulation procedure in which the dynamic nature of the parking system can be integrated into the mathematical programming model. The optimal values of design parameters are found that gives the minimum total cost while complying with the desired performance of the system.

  • A numerical simulation method is developed to analyze the dynamic response of a cantilever switch, which is driven by electrostatic force and a basic component of electro-mechanical coupled system. First, point-charges model on conductor is proposed as a lumped parameter of electrical part. Then, this model is easily incorporated into a multi-body dynamics analysis algorithm, the generalized recursive dynamics formula previously developed by our research group. The resulting motion of a coupled overall system is formulated as a differential algebraic equation form including electrical and mechanical variables together. The equation is simultaneously solved in every time step. To implement this approach into the useful dynamics analysis tool, we used multibody dynamics software (RecurDyn) based on the generalized recursive formula using relative coordinate. The developed numerical simulation tool is evaluated by applying to many different driving condition and switch configuration. The final analysis model will be added to RecurDyn as a basic module for dynamics analysis of electro-mechanical coupled system.

  • This paper proposes a new glasses removal method from color frontal facial image to generate gray glassless facial image. The proposed method is based on recursive PCA reconstruction. For the generation of glassless images, the occluded region by glasses should be found, and a good reconstructed image to compensate with should be obtained. The recursive PCA reconstruction Provides us with both of them simultaneously, and finally produces glassless facial images. This paper shows the effectiveness of the proposed method by some experimental results. We believe that this method can be applied to removing other type of occlusion than the glasses with some modification and enhancing the performance of a face recognition system.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop on-line system parameter estimation and damage detection technique from the response measurements through using the Recursive Covariance-Driven Stochastic Subspace identification (RSSI-COV) approach. To reduce the effect of noise on the results of identification, discussion on the pre-processing of data using recursive singular spectrum analysis (rSSA) is presented to remove the noise contaminant measurements so as to enhance the stability of data analysis. Through the application of rSSA-SSI-COV to the vibration measurement of bridge during scouring experiment, the ability of the proposed algorithm was proved to be robust to the noise perturbations and offers a very good online tracking capability. The accuracy and robustness offered by rSSA-SSI-COV provides a key to obtain the evidence of imminent bridge settlement and a very stable modal frequency tracking which makes it possible for early warning. The peak values of the identified $1^{st}$ mode shape slope ratio has shown to be a good indicator for damage location, meanwhile, the drastic movements of the peak of $2^{nd}$ mode slope ratio could be used as another feature to indicate imminent pier settlement.

Implementation of Euclidean Calculation Circuit with Two-Way Addressing Method for Reed-Solomon Decoder (Reed-Solomon decoder를 위한 Two-way addressing 방식의 Euclid 계산용 회로설계)

  • Two-way addressing method has been proposed for efficient VLSI implementation of Euclidean calculation circuit for pipelined Reed-Solomon decoder. This new circuit is operating with single clock while exploiting maximum parallelism, and uses register addressing instead of register shifting to minimize the switching power. Logic synthesis shows the circuit with the new scheme takes 3,000 logic gates, which is about 40% reduction from the previous 5,000 gate implementation. Computer simulation also shows the power consumption is about 3mW. The previous implementation with multiple clock consumed about 5mW.

Multi-stage design procedure for modal controllers of multi-input defective systems

  • The modal controller of single-input system cannot stabilize the defective system with positive real part of repeated eigenvalues, because some of the generalized modes are uncontrollable. In order to stabilize the uncontrollable modes with positive real part of eigenvalues, the multi-input system should be introduced. This paper presents a recursive procedure for designing the feedback controller of the multi-input system with defective repeated eigenvalues. For a nearly defective system, we first transform it into a defective one, and apply the same method to manage. The proposed methods are based on the modal coordinate equations, to avoid the tedious mathematic manipulation. As an application of the presented procedure, two numerical examples are given at end of the paper.

Heat source control intelligent system for heat treatment process

  • Although precise temperature control in the heat treatment process is a key factor in process reliability, there are many cases where there is no separate heat source control optimization system in the field. To solve this problem, the program monitors the temperature data according to the heat source change through sensor communication in a recursive method based on multiple variables that affect the process, and the target heat source value and the actual heat treatment heat source to match the internal air temperature and material temperature. A control optimization system was constructed. Through this study, the error rate between the target temperature and the atmosphere (material surface) temperature of around 10.7% with the existing heat source control method was improved to an improved result of around 0.1% using a process optimization algorithm and system.
