An electric furnace, inside which desired temperatures are kept constant by generating heat, is known to be a difficult system to control and model exactly because system parameters and response delay time vary as the temperature and position are changed. In this study the heating system of ceramic drying furnaces with time-varying parameters is mathematically modeled as a second order system and control parameters are estimated by using a RIV (Recursive Instrumental-Variable) method. A modified bang-bang control with magnitude tuning is proposed in the time optimal temperature control of ceramic drying electric furnaces and its performance is experimentally verified. It is proven that temperature tracking of adaptive time optimal control using a second order model is more stable than the GPCEW (Generalized Predictive Control with Exponential Weight) and rapidly settles down by pre-estimation of the system parameters.

In this paper a platoon merging control system is considered as a remotely located system with state represented by a stochastic process. in the system it is common to encounter situations where a single decision maker controls a large number of subsystems and observation and control signals are sent over a communication channel with finite capacity and significant transmission delays. Unlike a classical estimation problem where the observation is a continuous process corrupted by additive noise there is a constraint that the observation must be coded and transmitted over a digital communication channel with fintie capacity. A recursive coder-estimator sequence is a state estimation scheme based on observations transmitted with finite communication capacity constraint. in this paper we introduce a stochastic model for the lead vehicle in a platoon of vehicles in a lane considering the angle between the road surface and a horizontal plane as a stochastic process. In order to merge two platoons the lead vehicle of the following platoon is controlled by a remote control station. Using the observation transmitted over communication channel the remote control station designs the feedback controller. The simulation results show that the intervehicle spacings and the deviations from the desired intervehicle spacing are well regulated.

In this study we consider a CONWIP system in which the processing times at each station follow a Coxian distribution and the demands for the finished products arrive according to a compound Poisson process. The demands that are not satisfied immediately are either backordered or lost according to the number of demands that exist at their arrival Instants. For this system we develop an approximation method to calculate performance measures such as steady state probabilities of the number of parts at each station, proportion of lost demands and the mean number of backordered demands. For the analysis of the proposed CONWIP system, we model the CONWIP system as a closed queueing network with a synchronization station and analyze the closed queueing network using a product-form approximation method. A recursive technique is used to solve the subnetwork in the application of the product-form approximation method. To test the accuracy of the approximation method, the results obtained from the approximation method are compared with those obtained by simulation. Comparisons with simulation show that the approximation method provides fairly good results.

This study introduces an optimization methodology for the determination of gate location that ensures the melt flow balance within a part cavity of injection mold. A new sequential direct-search scheme based on the recursive reduction of the designer-specified gate design area is developed, and it is integrated with a commercial flow simulation tool for optimization. To quantify the level of melt flow balance, we employ the maximum difference among the fill times for the melt fronts to reach the boundary elements of part cavity as objective function. The proposed methodology is successfully applied in the case study of melt flow balancing in molding of a bar code scanner model. The result shows that the melt flow balance at the optimized gate positions is significantly improved from that for the initial gate position.
In this paper, we propose an interpreter, which recognizes the VoiceXML markups, verifies the validation of the document, and interprets the VoiceXML documents using DI parser and the generated AST by the parser. The VoiceXML interpreter consists of DI parser and executor, and the DI parser uses recursive descent parsing technology, and the executor uses FIA (Form Interpretation Algorithm) proposed by VXML forum. This system uses the Java language in order to develop the runtime environment for VoiceXML efficiently, thus this system has portability.
This paper presents a PID automatic gain-tuning algorithm for the electronic throttle valve which is driven by wire. Since the system characteristics of position control for electronic throttle valve are so complicated that both the real time robustness and the manufacturing cost must be considered for mass production. To resolve this paradox, a kind of algorithm called RLS (Recursive Least Square) is adopted for the control of the ETB (Electronic Throttle Body). Using this algorithm, the PID gains can be adjusted automatically with the estimated system parameters. Furthermore, a pre-filter is supplemented for the sake of the robustness against the friction and loads. From the industrial requests for the system, the design specifications are decided as follows: the settling time should be less than 1sec and the overshoot should be kept below 3%. The results of the experiments based on this approach show that the high robustness can be achieved while the system stability is satisfied steadily. A parameter estimation scheme and a gain-tuning algorithm have been properly combined and utilized in this research and the effectiveness is verified through the real experiments.

This study aims to investigate the effects of market commonality and resource similarity on price competition and the recursive consequences in the Korean lodging market. Price comparison among hotels in the same geographic market has been facilitated through the development of information technology, rendering little search cost of consumers. While the literature implies the heterogeneous price attack and response among hotels, a limited number of empirical researches focus on the asymmetric and recursive pattern in the competitive dynamics. This study empirically examines the price interactions in the Korean lodging market based on the theoretical framework of competitive price interactions and countervailing power. Demonstrating superiority to the spatial lag model and the ordinary least squares in the estimation, the results from spatial error model suggest that the hotels with longer operational history pose an asymmetric impact on the price of the newer hotels. The asymmetry is also found in chain hotels over the independent, further implying the possibility of predatory pricing. The findings of this study provide the evidence of a hierarchical structure in the price competition, with different countervailing power by the resources of the hotels. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed, with suggestions for future study.
In this paper, we show that $ G(2^m, 4), m{\geq}3$with at most m-2 faulty elements has a fault-free cycle of length 1 for every ${\leq}1{\leq}2^m-f_v$ is the number of faulty vertices. To achieve our purpose, we define a graph G to be k-fault hypohamiltonian-connected if for any set F of faulty elements, G- F has a fault-free path joining every pair of fault-free vertices whose length is shorter than a hamiltonian path by one, and then show that$ G(2^m, 4), m{\geq}3$ is m-3-fault hypohamiltonian-connected.

This paper presents a hybrid SoC design for phase detection of single tone signal. The designed hybrid SoC is composed of three functional blocks, i.e., an analog to digital converter module, a phase detection module and a controller module. A design of the controller module is based on a 16-bit RISC architecture. An I/O interface and an LCD control interface for transmission and display of phase measurement values are included in the design of the controller module. A design of the phase detector is based on a recursive sliding-DFT. The recursive architecture effectively reduces the gate numbers required in the implementation of the module. The ADC module includes a single-bit second-order sigma-delta modulator and a digital decimation filter. The decimation filter is designed to give 98dB of SNR for the ADC. The effective resolution of the ADC is enhanced to 98dB of SNR by the incorporation of a pre FIR filter, a 2-stage cascaded integrator- comb(CIC) filter and a 30-tab FIR filter in the decimation. The hybrid SoC is verified in FPGA and implemented in 0.35 CMOS Technology.
