A New Active Clamp Forward Converter Using Secondary Inductor Current Ripple for Improved ZVS Operation

  • A new asymmetrical zero voltage switching (ZVS) active clamp forward converter is proposed. Since the ripple current of secondary inductor plays a key role in the ZVS operation of main power switch, the proposed converter shows an excellent ZVS performance. The synchronous rectification is employed to reduce the rectification loss. The operational principle and ZVS analysis are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve an excellent ZVS performance throughout all load conditions and the significant improvement in the efficiency for the 100W(5V,20A) prototype converter.

Gate-modulated SWCNT/SnO2 nanowire hetero-junction arrays on flexible polyimide substrate

  • Recently, extensive research on hetero-junction arrays has been reported owing to its unique band gaps dissimilar to that of homo-junctions. These hetero-junction devices can be used in laser, solar cells, and various sensors. We report on the facile method to fabricate SWCNTs/SnO2 nanowires hetero-junction arrays on flexible polyimide substrate. Each SWCNT field effect transistor (FET) and SnO2 nanowire FET exhibits the purely p- and n-type charactersistics with ohmic contact properties. Such formed pn-junctions showed rectification behaviors reproducibly with a rectification ratio of ${\sim}3{\times}103$ at 1 V and ideality factors about 12. The pn-junctions also showed a good gate modulation behavior.

  • In this paper, in-depth considerations are given to various techniques suggested for photographic 3D modelling and possible enhancements of the techniques are discussed. It is found that both the improvement of fundamental matrix estimation techniques and the stereo image rectification processing stage are necessary for more accurate 3D modelling.

  • Recently, new trend in telecommunication device is to apply low voltage, about 3.3V-1.5V. However, it is undesirable in view of high efficiency and power desity which is the most important requirement in the distributed power system. Rectification loss in the output stage, in on-board converter for distributed power system are constrained to obtain high efficience at low output voltage power suppies. This paper explains the basic operational principles of three kinds of ZVS DC/DC converters with self-driven synchronous rectifier. The three topologies are analyzed by simulation and exprimentation, and the characteristics comparisons of high efficience converter are carried out in view of the minimized rectification losses in the out stage.

  • This paper proposes a new lossless snubber circuit on power supply for welding machine's output rectification diode. To improve the common inverter control type power supplies' problems that energy loss and heating in the snubber circuit because the output capacity makes too big heat energy in the circuit when the output current of the inverter is rectified by the diode bridge circuit, which includes the snubber circuit. This paper suggested new snubber circuit have increased power factor and confidence of output by being regenerate thus lost energy to input node.

  • An experimental study on the characteristics of several kinds of packing materials was carried out in order to get the optimum design data for the packed-type rectification system of an NH$_3$/$H_2O$ GAX absorption heat pump. Several suitable packing materials were examined and the bulk of steel wire was shown as the most effective packing material in rectifier. The optimum volumetric ratio of packed steel wire in rectifier was obtained as around 36%. The performance results can be adapted in rectifier design of absorption heat pump.

  • Virtual view synthesis is essential for 3DTV systems, which utilizes the motion parallax cue. In this paper, we propose a multi-step view synthesis algorithm to efficiently reconstruct an arbitrary view from limited number of known views of a 3D scene. We describe an efficient image rectification procedure which guarantees that an interpolation process produce valid views. This rectification method can deal with all possible camera motions. The idea consists of using a polar parameterization of the image around the epipole. Then, to generate intermediate views, we use an efficient dense disparity estimation algorithm considering features of stereo image pairs. Main concepts of the algorithm are based on the region dividing bidirectional pixel matching. The estimated disparities are used to synthesize intermediate view of stereo images. We use computer simulation to show the result of the proposed algorithm.

A Study on the Secondary Rectification-Methods for the Three-Level Converter

  • This paper proposes a coupled inductor-based rectifier of a Three-Level (TL) DC/DC converter and compares the rectification methods of a TL converter. The CICDR- TL (Coupled Inductor Current Doubler Rectifier Three-Level) converter achieves ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) for the switches in a wide load range. CDR (Current Doubler Rectifier) and CICDR Three-Level converter have low voltage and current ripple. Advantages and disadvantages of topology compared to the rectifier of bridge, center-tap, CDR, and CICDR are discussed. Experimental estimation results are obtained on a 27V, 60A DC/DC TL converter prototype for the 1.8kW, 40kHz IGBT based experimental circuit.

  • A new asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) half bridge converter with improved ZVS performance is proposed. The ZVS operation of the proposed converter can be maintained from no load to full load conditions since the magnetizing current of the transformer contributes to the ZVS operation at light loads without considerable conduction loss of the transformer and switch. Synchronous rectification is employed to reduce the rectification loss. Operational principles, large signal modeling, ZVS analysis and design equations are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve a large ZVS range and significant improvement in efficiency for a 100W (5V, 20A) prototype converter.

  • New adaptive SR (synchronous rectification) control method is proposed offering high efficiency in entire load conditions for resonant converters, in this paper. Unlike the conventional SR control method where turn-on time of the MOSFETs is varied depending on load conditions due to the stray inductance induced by a lead frame of MOSFET or PCB patterns, the proposed method automatically maintains a time interval between turn-off instance of a MOSFET and zero current instance of a body diode of the MOSFET as a predetermined time, in each switching cycle. Therefore, optimized turn-on time of the MOSFET can be achieved regardless of the leakage inductance. In this paper, the operational principle of proposed control method has been discussed. It has been tested on LLC resonant converter with 240 W to verify the proposed control method.
