In this study, obtaining theoretical stress-strain curves and determining the parameters defining the equivalent rectangular stress block were aimed for 3 and 4-layered rectangular Reinforced Concrete (RC) cross-sections subjected to flexure. For these aims, the analytical stress-strain model proposed by Hognestad was chosen for the concrete grades (20 MPa≤fck≤60 MPa) used in this study. The tensile strength of the concrete was neglected and the thickness of the concrete layers in the compression zone of the concrete cross-section was taken as equal. In addition, while concrete strength was kept constant within each layer, concrete strengths belonging to separate layers were increased from the neutral axis towards the outer face of the compression zone of the concrete cross-section. After the equivalent rectangular stress block parameters were determined by numerical iterations, variations of these parameters depending on concrete strength in layers and layer numbers were obtained. Finally, some analytical equations have been proposed to predict the equivalent stress block parameters for the 3 and 4-layered RC cross-sections and validities of these proposed equations were shown by different metrics in this study.

In this paper, the response characteristics of one to one resonance on the rectangular cantilever beam in which basic harmonic excitations are applied by nonlinear coupled differential integral equations are studied. This equations have 3-dimensional non-linearity of nonlinear inertia and nonlinear curvature. Galerkin and multi scale methods are used for theoretical approach to one to one internal resonance. Nonlinear response characteristics of 1st, 2nd, 3rd modes are measured from the experiment for basic harmonic excitation. From the experimental result, geometrical terms of nonlinearity display light spring effect and these terms play an important role in the response characteristics of low frequency modes. Dynamic behaviors in the out of plane are also studied.

We propose a new one-dimensional theory for thin-walled curved box beams having rectangular cross sections, in which torsional, out-of-plane bending, warping and distortional deformations are coupled. The major difference between the present theory and existing theories lies in that the present theory takes into account additional distortion as well as warping. To verify the present theory, a standard finite element based on the present theory is developed and used for numerical analysis. A couple of numerical examples indeed confirm that the consideration of warping and distortional deformations is very important.

Convective heat transfer in a two-dimensional horizontal and vertical channel with isothermal rectangular beams attached to one adiabatic wall is investigated from the numerical solution of Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The solutions have been obtained for dimensionless beam spacings, S/L=1~4, aspect ratios of beam, H/B=0.25~4, Reynolds numbers, Re=50~1000 and Grashof numbers, $Gr=0{\sim}5{\times}10^4$. The total mean Nusselt number, Nu_T for horizontal and vertical channels shows same value at Gr=0. As Gr increases, Nu_T for horizontal channel increases, but Nu_T for vertical channel shows similar value at S/L=2, H/B=0.25, Re=100. The total mean Nusselt number for horizontal channel is higher than that for vertical channel. As H/B increases, $Nu_T$ for both channel decrease at $Gr=10^4$, Re=100.
We have designed a new TIR(Total Internal Reflection) structure for generating an LED lens which can produce a rectangular beam with small divergence angle in two perpendicular directions for an optical guidance system. The lens can control the divergence angle in the horizontal direction to be a small value of about $8^{\circ}$ with a $1mm{\times}1mm$ LED source, also in the vertical direction it can be about $7^{\circ}$, with optical collection efficiency higher than 0.83. After the lens is manufactured, the work demonstrates that the lens is suitable for an optical guidance system.
In this paper we compare the solution of the one-dimensional beam model and the numerical solution of the two-dimensional linearized elasticity problem for rectangular domain of the beam-like form. We first derive the beam model starting from the two-dimensional linearized elasticity, the same way it is derived from the three-dimensional linearized elasticity. Then we present the numerical solution of the two-dimensional problem by finite element method. As expected the difference of two approximations becomes smaller as the thickness of the beam tends to zero. We then analyze the applicability of the one-dimensional model and verify the main properties of the beam modeling for thin beams.
This study conducts an optimization and sensitivity analysis on rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) beam using Lagrangian Multiplier Method (LMM) as programming optimization computer soft ware. The analysis is conducted to obtain the minimum design cost for both singly and doubly RC beams according to the specifications of three regulations of American concrete institute (ACI), British regulation (BS), and Iranian concrete regulation (ICS). Moreover, a sensitivity analysis on cost is performed with respect to the effective parameters such as length, width, and depth of beam, and area of reinforcement. Accordingly, various curves are developed to be feasibly utilized in design of RC beams. Numerical examples are also represented to better illustrate the design steps. The results indicate that instead of complex optimization relationships, the LMM can be used to minimize the cost of singly and doubly reinforced beams with different boundary conditions. The results of the sensitivity analysis on LMM indicate that each regulation can provide the most optimal values at specific situations. Therefore, using the graphs proposed for different design conditions can effectively help the designer (without necessity of primary optimization knowledge) choose the best regulation and values of design parameters.

A moment connection of H beam-to-rectangular tube column with external stiffeners was proposed. A formula to predict the ultimate strength of the connection was derived based on the yield line mechanism. Experimental investigation was performed to determine the applicability of the connection type and the strength formula. The ultimate strengths computed by the formula agreed well with the experimental values.
Damage detection algorithms based on a one-dimensional beam model can detect damage within a beam span caused by flexure only but cannot detect damage at a joint with prescribed boundary conditions or at the middle part of a beam section where the neutral axis is located. Considering the damage at a welded joint of beam elements in steel structures and modeling the damage with twodimensional plane elements, this study presents a new approach to detecting damage in the depth direction of the joint and beam section. Three damage scenarios at the upper, middle, and lower parts of a welded joint of a rectangular symmetric section are investigated. The damage is detected by evaluating the difference in the receptance magnitude between the undamaged and damaged states. This study also investigates the effect of measurement locations and noise on the capability of the method in detecting damage. The numerical results show the validity of the proposed method in detecting damage at the beam's welded joint.

We studied the influences of open cracks in free vibrating beam with rectangular section using a numerical model. The crack was assumed to be single and always open during the free vibration and equivalent bending stiffness of a cracked beam was calculated based on the strain energy balance. By Galerkin's method, the frequencies of cantilever beam could be obtained with respect to various crack depths and locations. Also, the experiments on the cracked beams were carried out to find natural frequencies. The cracks were initiated at five locations and the crack depths were increased by five steps at each location. The experimental results were compared with the numerical results and the comparison results were discussed.
