Responses to various types of mechanically induced wounding were followed in the giant-celled Caulerpalean species, Derbesia tenuissima, using time-lapse video-microscopy. Gametophyte vesicle cells. Puncture wounding: the gametophyte cell seals the puncture in 5 min. This is followed by cycles of ruptures and sealing, ending with full recovery in 24 hrs. Cut wounding: the protoplast immediately retracts away from the wall and reforms an intact, deflated protoplast that expands to fill the original cell within 21 hrs. Crush wounding (internal). When retained within the cell wall many protoplast fragments condense, round up, and coalesce; the reconstituted protoplast expands until it attains complete recovery, filling the original cell shape in 12 hrs. Crush wounding (external). Protoplast fragments extruded from the crushed cell are more numerous and smaller taking longer to recover. Most fragments become spherical, transforming into small viable cells capable of reproduction in several days. Sporophyte filaments. Crush wounding creates many small fragments that initially condense, coalesce and then expand within the wall to restore a complete filament with normal cytoplasmic streaming within 5 hrs. Reproduction: gametophyte. Our culture isolates produce more females than males (30:1). Gametangia develop one day before discharge that occurs explosively (1/6 sec) at first morning light. The vesicle cell forms successive gametangia every 14 days. Sporophyte. Each sporangium develops on a lateral branch that becomes isolated by the creation of successive basal plugs. After cytoplasmic cleavage and differentiation the stephanokont spores are discharged. The spores settle quickly and germinate forming gametophyte cells.

The current study was performed to observe the effects of Panax ginseng (PG) and P. quinquefolia (PQ) on hemodynamics such as blood flow rate (BF), blood flow velocity (BV), heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP, and body temperature (BT) in healthy young men. After testing equality of variance, Student's t-test using PROC TTEST was examined to. prove statistical differences between control and ginseng conditions at each time point. It was found that the BF data were fluctuated by personal deviation. In order to minimize the deviation, the results obtained for 6 hrs were reconstituted after dividing them into two periods of the first half from 1 to 3 hrs and of the latter half from 3.5 to 6 hrs. And then the reconstitution data and dose-response curves were obtained. Blood flow such as BF and BV shows significant increases both two periods in the dose of PG 2.25 and PG 9.0, whereas significant decrease in the dose of PG 4.5. However, in the PQ groups, the middle dose PQ 4.5 shows the highest significant increase among the three doses. Except for PG 2.25 in HR, other doses show significant decreases both in the first half and latter half. SBP of PQ 9.0 shows only a significant decrease in the first half; on the other hand, in the latter half, PG 4.5, PG 9.0 and PQ 9.0 significantly increase SBP. In addition, DBP of PG 2.25 and PG 4.5 show significant increase in the both periods. In the BT, PQ groups show gradual decrease from PQ 2.25 to PQ 9.0; however, PG groups show differently. PG 4.5 shows significant decrease, but PG 9.0 shows a increase without statistical meanings. In summary, PG is more effective in respect to keeping homeostasis of hemodynamics.
This study was carried out to separate immunoglobulin G(IgG) from colostrum using reverse micellar extraction of cationic surfactant and to suggest suitable extraction conditions. The reconstituted colostrum powder was solubilized into a reverse micellar phase containing CDAB(cetyldimethylethyl ammonium bromide) by mixing equal volume of the aqueous and organic phase with constant stirring. The solubilization of proteins from the aqueous to the organic phase was manipulated by pH and ionic strength of the aqueous phase and concentration of surfactant in the organic phase. Based on the SDS-PAGE and densitometry, about more than 90% of initial IgG was remained in the aqueous phase after reverse micellar extraction. Although the aqueous phase contained lactoferrin and bovine serum albumin as minor components, about 93% of the total protein was IgG. The efficient extraction was achieved by the reaction of sodium phosphate buffer(pH 8) containing 50 mM KCl and organic phase containing 100 mM CDAB. The separation of IgG using reverse micellar extraction was simple, highly efficient and easy to be scaled up.
This investigation was aimed at developing a ready-to-reconstitute beverage by utilizing probiotics and whey protein hydrolysates carrying bioactive peptides. Cheddar cheese whey was ultrafiltered. The 18% protein retentate was subjected to protein hydrolysis using Neutrase. The hydrolyzed retentate was further condensed to 35% total solids and spray-dried at $75^{\circ}C$ outlet air temperature. Different levels of sugar, citric acid and stabilizer were blended for spray-dried hydrolysates. Spray-dried hydrolysate was further inoculated with different levels of probiotics grown in a whey medium and dried in fluidized-bed drier at $40^{\circ}C$ to obtain a ready-to-reconstitute beverage. Hydrolysis was greatest at an enzyme:substrate ratio of 1:25 for 3 h. Spray-dried hydrolysate reconstituted to 1% protein and blended with 15% sugar, 0.2% citric acid and 0.15% xantham gum resulted in a superior product with no sedimentation. Accordingly, sugar, citric acid and xanthum gum were dry-blended with spray-dried hydrolysates. Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus that was grown separately in a whey medium, blended to produce 2% spray-dried hydrolysate and dried as described above resulted in a readyto-reconstitute beverage mix. The fluidized dried product typically exhibited a probiotic count of $10^8$colony forming units (CFU)/g. However, blending of probiotic to the retentate and direct spray-drying precipitously reduced the probiotic count to $10^4$ CFU/g of powder.
In this study, the influence of progressive consolidation from the drainage boundary on the subsequent process of consolidation was investigated. Analytical theory and numerical program f3r consolidation of clayey soil were developed based on finite difference method, in which spatial variation of permeability and volume compressibility were implemented. And model ground with normally consolidated clayey soils and a vertical drain at its center were simulated. Various types of soils with different relations between coefficient of volume compressibility and permeability and void ratio were applied. Also numerical simulations based on the properties of the normally consolidated clay at Nakdong River basin and reconstituted kaolinite soil were performed to recognize its practical impact. Consequently, it is found out that retardation of consolidation induced by progressive consolidation is very important to understand consolidation behavior on field conditions and its effect is remarkable at the initial state of consolidation, and increases with plasticity index and applied load.
In this paper the factors developing ground disturbance with the penetration of PDB mandrels are analysed by using field reconnaissance and laboratory test. In the laboratory tests, the amount of smear zones around the PDB mandrels is compared with respect to the shape and the size of mandrels by penetrating model mandrels of various shapes into the reconstituted clay. The shapes of mandrels selected are circular, oval and rectangular. It was recognized from the field reconnaissance that the size and shape, driving techniques of mandrels, as well as the size and shape of anchor shoe could develop ground disturbance. The mandrels that would reduce the smear effect of clay is oval and rectangular shapes rat her than circular one. It was found that the smear effect becomes smaller as the ratio of the long and short edge of the rectangular shape mandrel becomes larger.

Evaluation of permeability and coefficient of consolidation of clayey sand is critical in analyzing ground stability or environmental problems such as prediction of pollutant transport in groundwater. In this study, permeability tests using a flexible wall permeameter are performed to derive the coefficient of consolidation and permeability of reconstituted soil samples with various mixing ratios of kaolin clays and two different types of sands, which are Jumunjin and Ottawa sands. The test results indicate that the coefficient of consolidation and permeability plots linearly against clay contents in semi-log scale graphs for low clay mixing ratios ranging between 10 to 30%. It is also demonstrated that coefficient of consolidation and permeability of sand and clay mixture are dependent on the soil structure. Contrary to previous findings, the permeability is shown to be independent of the void ratio at low mixing ratios, which can be classified as non-floating fabric. The permeability decreases with the void ratio for floating fabric.
AquI DNA methyltransferase, M.AquI, catalyses the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to the C5 position of the outermost deoxycytidine base in the DNA sequence 5'CYCGRG3'. M.AquI is encoded by two overlapping ORFs (termed $\alpha$ and $\beta$) instead of the single ORF that is customary for Class II methyltransferase genes. The structural organization of the M.AquI protein sequence is quite similar to that of other bacterial C5-DNA methyltransferases. Ten conserved motifs are also present in the correct order, but only on two polypeptides. We separately subcloned the genes that encode the $\alpha$ and $\beta$ subunits of M.AquI into expression vectors. The overexpressed His-fusion $\alpha$ and $\beta$ subunits of the enzyme were purified to homogeneity in a single step by Nickel-chelate affinity chromatography. The purified recombinant proteins were assayed for biological activity by an in vitro DNA tritium transfer assay. The $\alpha$ and $\beta$ subunits of M.AquI alone have no DNA methyltransferase activity, but when both subunits are included in the assay, an active enzyme that catalyses the transfer of the methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to DNA is reconstituted. We also showed that the $\beta$ subunit alone contains all of the information that is required to generate recognition of specific DNA duplexes in the absence of the $\alpha$ subunit.

The coexistence of moyamoya disease (MMD) with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is exceedingly rare. We report two cases of AVM associated with MMD. The first case was an incidental AVM diagnosed simultaneously with MMD. This AVM was managed expectantly after encephalo-duro-arterio-synangiosis (EDAS) as the main feeders stemmed from the internal carotid artery, which we believed would be obliterated with the progression of MMD. However, the AVM persisted with replacement of the internal carotid artery feeders by new external carotid artery feeders from the EDAS site. The AVM was eventually treated with gamma knife radiosurgery considering an increasing steal effect. The second case was a de novo AVM case. The patient was initially diagnosed with MMD, and acquired an AVM eight years later that was slowly fed by the reconstituted anterior cerebral artery. Because the patient remained asymptomatic, the AVM is currently being closely followed for more than 2 years without further surgical intervention. Possible differences in the pathogenesis and the radiologic presentation of these AVMs are discussed with a literature review. No solid consensus exists on the optimal treatment of MMD-associated AVMs. Gamma knife radiosurgery appears to be an effective treatment option for an incidental AVM. However, a de novo AVM may be managed expectantly considering the possible risks of damaging established collaterals, low flow characteristics, and probably low risks of rupture.
Development of sensing technology and progress of digital media have been creating new art genre named interactive media art. digital mirror working based on convergence between computer vision technology and video art, is expressing reconstituted spectator's visual image through various mediums. From this aesthetical point and high accessibility towards spectators, many types of digital mirrors have been introducing. However, the majority of digital mirrors express visual images unrelated to degree of spectator's participation and this caused obstruction to spectator's continuous participation and interaction. This paper proposes digital mirror operated by spectator's movements read through particle system synchronized with motion detection algorithm based on analyzing image difference. This work extracted the data of spectator's movement by image processing and designed particle system changed by this data. And it expressed reconstructed spectator's image.
