  • The IEEE 802.15.7r1 Task Group (TG7r1), known as the revision of the IEEE 802.15.7 Visible Light Communication standard targeting the commercial usage of visible light communication systems which mainly use either image sensors or cameras, is of interest in this paper. The vast challenge in Image Sensor Communications (ISC), as it has been addressed in the Technical Consideration Document (TCD) of the TG7r1, is the Image Sensor Compatibility to support the variety of different commercial cameras available on the market. The on-going ISC standard must adhere to compatible image sensors regulations. This paper brings an inside review of the TG7r1 and an inside look of related works on Image Sensor Communications. The paper analyzes the compatibility features by introducing a revised model of receiver to explain how those features are necessary. One of the most challenging but interesting features is the capability in being compatible to camera frame rates. The variation of camera frame rate is modeled from verified experimental results. Noticeably, three singular approaches to support frame rates compatibility, including temporal approach, spatial approach, and frequency-domain approach, are proposed on the paper along with concise definitions. Those schemes have been presented as valuable proposals on the call-for-proposal meeting series of the TG7r1 recently.

  • In an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing) system, the sampling frequency offset between the transmitter and receiver is known to cause the interchannel interference (ICI), resulting in performance degradation. In this paper, we propose two time-domain techniques to estimate the sampling frequency offset, especially for a high data-rate OFDM system. The first technique estimates the sampling frequency offset by using the phase difference between two received samples with a fixed amount of time interval, corresponding to the transmitted training symbol, under the assumption of perfect symbol and carrier offset synchronization. The second technique estimates the sampling frequency offset and carrier frequency offset jointly, when the two offsets exist together, by using two training symbols with different frequency components and using a sample algebraic calculation. The proposed estimation techniques for sampling frequency offset cause no time delay due to all time-domain processing, and have a good performance due to no ICI effect. The performances of the proposed techniques are demonstrated by various simulations.

  • Transmission methods for terrestrial UHDTV broadcasting have been actively studied in order to provide enhanced broadcasting service in many countries. Most of the countries are considering multi-carrier transmission methods based on OFDM and some of them have performed UHDTV experimental broadcasting by using the DVB-T2 standard with the adoption of an improved data compression technique. However, since single carrier transmission methods, which are known to be susceptible to multi-path fading, could remedy this defect by using the SC-FDE method where a frequency domain equalizer is utilized in the receiver, they may achieve a similar transmission performance with multi-carrier transmission methods. In consideration of these circumstances, we compare the transmission performances of two-type methods to provide a decision criterion on a suitable transmission method for UHDTV broadcasting.

  • Time Stretched Pulse (TSP) is used for transmitting and analyzing the impulse signal over the designated spatial place. However, if transfer functions of transmitter and receiver are unknown, performance investigation of free field in temporal domain is barely possible due to the overlap between the direct and indirect signal from the space. Generally, the free field or hemi-free field is evaluated by the Annex A of ISO 3745 in which utilizing the inverse square law with one-third octave band signals. In this paper, the author performs analysis of free field via applying TSP with inverse square law and the results are compared with the one-third octave band signals. According to the analysis of deviation between the corresponding signal and inverse square law model, the proposed TSP method provides the comparable performance index to the one-third octave band signal with reduced measuring time. Provided that the pre-whitening can be implementable by employing the speaker and microphone transfer function, further analyses from TSP compression are able to be performed such as multipath separation from time domain data. The anechoic chamber used in this experiment is verified conformance with ISO 3745 for free field and hemi-free field condition for limited frequency of the signal.

  • In this paper, two receive diversity combining techniques are proposed for single-carrier Sequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA)-based cooperative relay systems when DFT spreading sizes for mobile station (MS) and relay station (RS) are different. A simplified-MRC (5-MRC) technique performs diversity combining in the time domain using the estimated channel weight and initial values obtained by SC-FDMA signal detection. An interference rejection-MRC (IR-MRC) technique performs diversity combining in the frequency domain by adjusting DFT spreading size in the receiver. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed receive diversity combining techniques achieve a significant performance gain over the conventional MRC technique with zero forcing (ZF) detector.

  • In discrete multi-tone (DMT)-based very high bit-rate digital subscriber line (VDSL) systems, the ingressed RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) accompanied by transmitted signal at the receiver is known to cause the spectralleakage by the finite-point FFT, resulting in significant performance degradation.0 this paper, we propose a RFIcancellation technique which can compensate the ingressed RFI efficiently, especially for a high data-rate VDSLsystem. The proposed technique compensates the performance degradation of e VDSL system due to RFI byusing a time-domain RFI canceller whose coefficients are obtained from the estimated center frequency of RFI inthe frequency domain under the assumption that the ingressed RFI is a narrow-band signal compared to VDSLsampling frequency. The proposed technique requires no training symbol and convergence period, and worksproperly even when spectral shape of the ingressed RFI is unknown or arbitrary. Feasibility of the proposedtechnique is demonstrated via a computer simulation by comparing its performance with the performance of theprevious RFI cancellation technique.

  • This paper describes the application method of bumper area defined in the ship domain theory and it is to identify risky sectors in VTS(Vessel Traffic Services) area. The final goal of this work is to develop early warning system providing the location information with high traffic risks in Mokpo VTS area and to prevent the human errors of VTS Officer(VTSO). The current goal of this paper is to find evaluation and detection method of risky sectors. The ratio between overlapped bumper area of each vessels and the summing area of a designated sector, Ratio to Evaluate Risk(RER) ${\gamma}$ is used as one of evaluation and detection parameter. The usability of overlapped bumper area is testified through three kinds of scenarios for various traffic situations. The marine traffic data used in the experiments is collected by AIS(Automatic Identification System) receiver and then compiled in the SQL(Structured Query Language) Server. Through the analysis of passing vessel's tracks within the boundary of Mokpo VTS area, the total of 11 sectors are identified as evaluation unit sector. As experiment results from risk evaluation for the 11 sectors, it is clearly known that the proposed method with RER ${\gamma}$ can provide the location information of high risky sectors which are need to keep traffic tracks of vessel movements and to maintain traffic monitoring by VTSO.

  • Software today has become an inseparable part of our life. In order to achieve the ever demanding needs of customers, it has to rapidly evolve and include a number of changes. In this paper, our aim is to study the relationship of object oriented metrics with change proneness attribute of a class. Prediction models based on this study can help us in identifying change prone classes of a software. We can then focus our efforts on these change prone classes during testing to yield a better quality software. Previously, researchers have used statistical methods for predicting change prone classes. But machine learning methods are rarely used for identification of change prone classes. In our study, we evaluate and compare the performances of ten machine learning methods with the statistical method. This evaluation is based on two open source software systems developed in Java language. We also validated the developed prediction models using other software data set in the same domain (3D modelling). The performance of the predicted models was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic analysis. The results indicate that the machine learning methods are at par with the statistical method for prediction of change prone classes. Another analysis showed that the models constructed for a software can also be used to predict change prone nature of classes of another software in the same domain. This study would help developers in performing effective regression testing at low cost and effort. It will also help the developers to design an effective model that results in less change prone classes, hence better maintenance.

  • The agricultural sector is completely different from other sectors since it completely relies on various natural and climatic factors. Climate changes have many effects, including lack of annual rainfall and pests, heat waves, changes in sea level, and global ozone/atmospheric CO2 fluctuation, on land and agriculture in similar ways. Climate change also affects the environment. Based on these factors, farmers chose their crops to increase productivity in their fields. Many existing agricultural ontologies are either domain-specific or have been created with minimal vocabulary and no proper evaluation framework has been implemented. A new agricultural ontology focused on subdomains is designed to assist farmers using Jaccard relative extractor (JRE) and Naïve Bayes algorithm. The JRE is used to find the similarity between two sentences and words in the agricultural documents and the relationship between two terms is identified via the Naïve Bayes algorithm. In the proposed method, the preprocessing of data is carried out through natural language processing techniques and the tags whose dimensions are reduced are subjected to rule-based formal concept analysis and mapping. The subdomain ontologies of weather, pest, and soil are built separately, and the overall agricultural ontology are built around them. The gold standard for the lexical layer is used to evaluate the proposed technique, and its performance is analyzed by comparing it with different state-of-the-art systems. Precision, recall, F-measure, Matthews correlation coefficient, receiver operating characteristic curve area, and precision-recall curve area are the performance metrics used to analyze the performance. The proposed methodology gives a precision score of 94.40% when compared with the decision tree(83.94%) and K-nearest neighbor algorithm(86.89%) for agricultural ontology construction.

  • To estimate the shear-wave velocity (${\nu}_s$ beneath the OTVZ seismic station on Ngauruhoe volcano in New Zealand, we calculated receiver functions (RFs) using 127 teleseismic data ($Mw{\geq}5.5$) with high signal-to-noise ratios recorded during November 11, 2011 to September 11, 2013. The genetic inversion algorithms was applied to 21 RFs calculated by the iterative time-domain deconvolution method. In the 1-D ${\nu}_s$ model derived by the inversion, the Moho is observed at a 14 km depth, marked by a ${\nu}_s$ transition from 3.7 km/s to 4.7 km/s. The average ${\nu}_s$ of the overlying crust is 3.4 km/s, and the average ${\nu}_s$ of a greater than 9-km thick low-velocity layer (LVL) in the lower crust is 3.1 km/s. The LVL becomes thinner with increasing distance from the station. Another LVL thicker than 10 km with ${\nu}_s$ less than 4.3 km/s is found in the upper mantle. Those LVLs in the lower crust and the upper mantle and the relatively thin crust might be related to the magma activity caused by the subducting Pacific plate.
