Measurement of Velocity for Mobile Units Using RFID Location Sensing System (RFID를 이용한 이동체의 속도계측 기술에 관한 연구 - RFID 측위기술을 기반으로 -)

  • In Ubiquitous computing, RFID has been become a key technology to provide the real-time location information of users. For this purpose, many recent researches have been conducted regarding RTLS based on the RFID system. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency and feasibility of the velocity gauging system using RTLS based on the RFID system. By using this system, the velocity of mobile units were measured and the accuracy was evaluated with data obtained from DGPS. The results demonstrated that RTLS based on the RFID system would be suitable to measure with relatively low velocity information of mobile units. When RFID infrastructures are being constructed, the developed system will be a better position to increase popularity of velocity information service.

  • In order to prevent secondary disaster such as gas explosion which comes after a devastating magnitude earthquake, the seismic monitoring and transmission system for natural gas governor station was developed. To measure ground motions precisely and operate the seismic monitoring system efficiently, the position and method of accelerometer installation were recommended by the analysis of ground noise patterns of governor station. For making a decision on prompt shut-off of gas supplies in the event of a great earthquake, the real-time calculation algorithm of PGA(Peak Ground Acceleration) and SI(Spectrum Intensity) were developed and it has been implemented in the seismic monitoring and transmission system.

A Vector-based Azimuth Algorithm using Indoor-Positioning Systems for Mobile Nodes (이동노드의 실내위치파악 시스템을 통한 벡터기반 상대방위각 알고리즘)

  • Indoor-positioning systems are useful to various applications. Navigation system is one of the most popular applications, which needs the information of directions of nodes' movements. Specifically the applications should get the information in real-time to properly show the current moving position of a node. In this paper, simple vector-based algorithms are proposed to compute amount and direction of changes of azimuth of mobile nodes' heading directions using existing indoor positioning systems in indoor environments where azimuth sensors do not work properly. Previous algorithms calculate the azimuth changes by too many steps of topology-based formula. The algorithms proposed in this paper get the amount of changes of azimuth by simple formula based on vector, and determine the direction of changes by the sign of value of simple formula based on the previous movement of nodes. The algorithms are much simpler and less error-prone than previous ones, and then they can detect changes in many location-based applications as well. The performance of the algorithms is proved logically and mathematically.

  • This paper developed a home wellness robot platform to perform the roles in basic health care and life care in an aging society. A robotic platform and a sensory platform were implemented for an indoor wellness service. In the robotic platform, the precise mobility and the dexterous manipulation are not only developed in a symbiotic service-robot, but they also ensure the robot architecture of human friendliness. The mobile robot was made in the agile system, which consists of Omni-wheels. The manipulator was made in the anthropomorphic system to carry out dexterous handwork. In the sensing platform, RF tags and stereo camera were used for self and target localization. They were processed independently and cooperatively for accurate position and posture. The wellness robot platform was integrated in a real-time system. Finally, its good performance was confirmed through live indoor tests for health and life care.

A Study on the Fabrication and Characterization of Micromirrors Supported by S-shape Girders (S자형 들보에 의해 지지되는 micromirror의 제작 및 동작특성 분석)

  • Micromirrors supported by S-shape girders were fabricated and their angular deflections were measured using a laser-based system. A micromirror consists of a $50\mum\times50\mum$ aluminum plate, posts and an S-shape girder. Two electrodes were deposited on two corners of the substrate beneath the mirror plate. $50\times50$micromirror array were fabricated using the Al-MEMS process. The electrostatic force caused by the voltage difference between the mirror plate and one of the electrodes causes the mirror plate to tilt until the girder touches the substrate. Bial voltage of the mirror plate is between 25~35V and signal pulse voltage on both electrodes is $\pm5V$. A laser-based system capable of real-time two-dimensional angular deflection measurement of the micromirror was developed. The operation of the system is based on measuring the displacement of a HeNe laser beam reflecting off the micromirror. The resonant frequency of the micromirror is 50kHz when the girder touches the substrate and it is 25 when the micromirror goes back to flat position, since the moving mass is about twice of the former case. The measurement results also revealed that the micromirror slants to the other direction even after the girder touches the substrate.

  • In this study, the radiation monitoring system using CsI(TI) scintillation counter is developed for the measurement of radiation distribution in the field of high dose level. When the inner diameter of collimator is 8 mm, we have realized the optimum detecting efficiency and spatial resolution. At that time, the position resolution was 10 cm at 1 m from the system. And experimental results indicated that the energy resolution of the system were 10 % for 662 keV of Cs-137, 7.6 % for 1.17 MeV of Co-60, and 5.8 % for 1.33 MeV of Co-60. Also, we have shown that the real radiation distribution images may be obtained by our measurement system.

  • A waypoint tracking algorithm(WTA) is designed for Unmanned Surface Vehicle(USV) in which water-jet system is installed for propulsion To control the heading of USV for waypoint tracking, the steering nozzle of water-jet need, to be controlled. Firstly, target heading is calculated by using the position information of waypoints input from the land control center. Secondly, the command for the steering nozzle of water-jet is calculated in real time by using the heading and the rate-of-turn( ROT) from magnetic compass, In this study, in order to consider the drift angle due to external disturbance such as wind and wave, the course of ground( COG) can be used instead of heading at higher speed than a certain value, To test the performance of newly-designed WTA, the tests were carried out in actual sea area near Gwang-an bridge of Busan. In this paper, the sea trial test results from WTA are analyzed and compared with those from manual control and those from commercial controller.

A Method to Compare Images for Managing Tools to Repair Ships (선박 수리장비 관리를 위한 이미지 비교기법)

  • The existing ship repair tool management system based on hand writing has many problems such as frequent loss of tool and overdue. To solve this problem, same systems have adopted the bar-code system. However, the systems can't cope with a problem to substitute spurious tool for genuine one on bar-code damage. Therefore, additional validation steps are necessary in order to manage expensive ship repair tool. In this paper, we propose an image comparison method for ship repair tool management. To be more concrete, we propose a normalization method and determination conditions for image comparison to use characteristics of mobile device. The normalization method makes use of the characteristics of mobile device that provides functions of real time recording, overlapping and cropping images. The proposed method applies three conditions(sum of inner angles, size of angle, position of corner coordinates) into the comparison module. The implemented system shows good performance on change direction, lighting, size and etc. The accuracy is more than 95%.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to develop an apparatus which can take a facial image by self-operated capturing technique. The user can obtain one's facial image immediately after adjusting facial tilt and focusing distance. The system has been designed for classifying Sasang typology based on facial image. Methods : The system is composed of a Webcam, one-way glass mirror and mini LCD. The Webcam takes a facial image which is displayed on the mini LCD. Then the user can see and adjust to the right position in the real time through the image mirror-reflected from the mini LCD. The optical sensor is used to estimate the proper focusing distance. To verify the performance of the system, 11 characteristic points on the facial image are used and compared with high performance DSLR camera(D700) by applying the coefficient of variance and Bland-Altman Plot. Results : The developed system and D700 show enough agreement with the small coefficient of variance to analyse constitutional types with a facial im mage. However, the result of Bland-Altman plot shows that the width parameters have distortions owing to short focusing distance. Conclusions : The system is expected to be utilized on u-healthcare services for home environment after improving the distortion in the width parameters.

Shadow Classification for Detecting Vehicles in a Single Frame (단일 프레임에서 차량 검출을 위한 그림자 분류 기법)

  • A new robust approach to detect vehicles in a single frame of traffic scenes is presented. The method is based on the multi-level shadow classification, which has been shown to have the capability of extracting correct shadow shapes regardless of the operating conditions. The rationale of this classification is supported by the fact that shadow regions underneath vehicles usually exhibit darker gray level regardless of the vehicle brightness and illuminating conditions. Classified shadows provide string clues on the presence of vehicles. Unlike other schemes, neither background nor temporal information is utilized; thereby the performance is robust to the abrupt change of weather and the traffic congestion. By a simple evidential reasoning, the shadow evidences are combined with bright evidences to locate correct position of vehicles. Experimental results show the missing rate ranges form 0.9% to 7.2%, while the false alarm rate is below 4% for six traffic scenes sets under different operating conditions. The processing speed for more than 70 frames per second could be obtained for nominal image size, which makes the real-time implementation of measuring the traffic parameters possible.
