  • Recently, a study of Virtual-Reality becomes active. Expectation to 3-D reproduction technology rises with it. Electro-holography using Spatial-light-modulator attracts attention, because natural 3-D animated image is provided. It is important to execute hologram calculation at high speed to realize the real time electro-holography. In other words, a higher-speed computer and a study of calculation algorithm becomes an important subject. This time, we realized to fast calculation of Fresnel-Hologram by networking technology.

  • In this paper, we propose the Real-Time Free Viewpoint TV System with multiple Microsoft Kinects and CUDA of NVidia GPGPU library. It generates a virtual view between two views by using color and depth image acquired by Kinect in real time. In order to reduce complexity of coordinate transformations and nearest neighbor method for hole filling caused by IR pattern interference, we parallelize this process using CUDA. Finally, it is observed that CUDA based system generates more frames than using CPU based system in the same time.

  • After starting digital terrestrial broadcasting, there have been a number oftrials to provide new services like data broadcasting on a spare bandwidth of a DTV channel. Recently, the Push-VOD service, which provides A/V contents on that bandwidth, gets more attention and is being standardized as NRT(Non-Real-Time) by ATSC. However, it is highly probable that the contents transmitted in this way contain many errors due to the DTV receiving environment. Thus, in order to improve the reliability of transmission, the contents should be transmitted repeatedly several times, considering the unidirectional property of DTV terrestrial network. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate the optimal number of repetitions to transmit each contents in a way that minimizes the number of errors occured, when trying to transmit several contents to the receiver in a restricted time, using Markov-chain modeling and dynamic programming approach.

  • T-DMB (Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) adopted MPEG-4 BIFS (Binary Format for Scene) Core2D scene description profile and graphics profile as the standard of video associated data service. By using BIFS, we can support to overlay objects, i.e. text, stationary image, circle, polygon, etc., on the main display of receiving end according to the properties designated in broadcasting side and to make clickable buttons and website links on desired objects. Therefore, a variety of interactive data services can be served by BIFS. In this paper, we implement real-time video associated data service system far T-DMB. Our developing system places emphasis on real-time data service by user operation and on inter-working and stability with our previously developed video encoder. Our system consists of BIFS Real-time System, Automatic Stream Control System and Receiving Monitoring System. Basic functions of our system are designed to reflect T-DMB programs and characteristics of program production environment as a top priority. Our developed system was used in BIFS trial service via KBS T-DMB, it is supposed to be used in T-DMB main service after improvement process such as intensifying system stability.

  • Since DMB on-air was started, not high-qualified audio, video services but various service models have been required. This paper is about systems for one of these services, video associated data service. A terrestrial DMB system to make contents of video associated data services and transmit them on DMB channel is proposed in this paper. This system satisfies standard of the video associated data services for terrestrial DMB; MPEG-4 BIFS (BInary Format for Scene) Core2D scene description profile and graphics profile. This system is designed to support two major features of broadcasting, real-time authoring non automatic transmission and non real-time authoring automatic transmission, and focuses on the abilities to make high-qualified contents efficiently and transmit them to video encoder reliably. This system proved its performance through conformance tests with various receivers, so can be used in future on-air.

  • In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), most energy saving asynchronous MAC protocols are custom tailored for unicast communications only. However, broadcast protocols are very commonly used in WSNs for a variety of functionalities, such as gathering network topology information, event monitoring and query processing. In this paper, we propose a novel low-power asynchronous broadcast MAC protocol called Alarm Broadcast (A-CAST). A-CAST employs the strobe preamble that specifies the residual waiting time for the following data transmission. Each receiver goes back to sleep upon hearing the strobe preamble for the residual time duration, to conserve energy and to wake up just before data transmission starts. We compute the energy consumption of A-CAST via rigorous mathematical analysis. The analytic results show that A-CAST outperforms B-CAST, a simple broadcast extension of the well-known B-MAC. We also implement A-CAST on sensor motes and evaluated its performance through real experiments. Our experimental results show that A-CAST reduces the energy consumption by up to 222% compared to the previously proposed protocols.

  • This paper presents a framework of real-time augmented reality on 3-D mobile display with stereo camera tracking. In the framework, camera poses are jointly estimated with the geometric relationship between stereoscopic images, which is based on model-based tracking. With the estimated camera poses, the virtual contents are correctly augmented on stereoscopic images through image rectification. For real-time performance, stereo camera tracking and image rectification are efficiently performed using multiple threads. Image rectification and color conversion are accelerated with a GPU processing. The proposed framework is tested and demonstrated on a commercial smartphone, which is equipped with a stereoscopic camera and a parallax barrier 3-D display.

  • Recently, the utilization of the object tracking algorithm based on the deep learning model is increasing. A system for tracking multiple objects in an image is typically composed of a chain form of an object detection algorithm and an object tracking algorithm. However, chain-type systems composed of several modules require a high performance computing environment and have limitations in their application to actual applications. In this paper, we propose a method that enables real-time operation in low-performance computing environment by adjusting the computational process of object detection module in the object detection-tracking chain type system.

  • This paper presents a real-time low-resolution face recognition method that uses a super-resolution technique. Conventional face recognition methods are limited by low accuracy resulting from the distance between the camera and objects. Although super-resolution methods have been developed to resolve this issue, they are not suitable for integrated face recognition systems. The proposed method recognizes faces with low resolution using key frame selection, super resolution, face detection, and recognition on real-time processing. Experiments involving several databases indicated that the proposed algorithm is superior to conventional methods in terms of face recognition accuracy.

  • Real time verification is necessary, since there are several features that cannot be verified through design simulation in the design of multiband soundbar system. And then this paper describes an implementation of an FPGA-based real-time verification system for a soundbar SoC with an embedded processor. It is verified a real-time performance test and a listening test which are several features in the design stage that cannot be verified through a design simulation. The measurement of quantitative specifications such as SNR, THD+N, frequency response, etc. as well as the listening test were performed through the implemented FPGA system, and it was verified that test results satisfied the target specifications.
