In Gravure printing process, there are a lot of printing errors caused by expansion and contraction of printing materials and difficulty of printing of small letters, accordingly we cannot detect those errors with eyes. In this paper, we describe the algorithm which can detect small errors automatically in Gravure printing process and a real-time detection system adopting the algorithm. We present the Perimetric Mask algorithm that can eliminate tiny errors occurring near the contour of printing objects to achieve accurate inspection, and also construct an algorithm utilizing symmetry transform which can emphasize tiny errors to make a robust inspection system. We have made a system running in real-time and verified the efficiency of the algorithm.
This paper describes a real-time isometric pinch force prediction algorithm from surface electromyogram (sEMG) using multilayer perceptron (MLP) for human robot interactive applications. The activities of seven muscles which are observable from surface electrodes and also related to the movements of the thumb and index finger joints were recorded during pinch force experiments. For the successful implementation of the real-time prediction algorithm, an off-line analysis was performed using the recorded activities. Four muscles were selected for the force prediction by using the Fisher linear discriminant analysis among seven muscles, and the four muscle activities provided effective information for mapping sEMG to the pinch force. The MLP structure was designed to make training efficient and to avoid both under- and over-fitting problems. The pinch force prediction algorithm was tested on five volunteers and the results were evaluated using two criteria: normalized root mean squared error (NRMSE) and correlation (CORR). The training time for the subjects was only 2 min 29 sec, but the prediction results were successful with NRMSE = 0.112 ${\pm}$ 0.082 and CORR = 0.932 ${\pm}$ 0.058. These results imply that the proposed algorithm is useful to measure the produced pinch force without force sensors in real-time. The possible applications include controlling bionic finger robot systems to overcome finger paralysis or amputation.
FOPDT(First-Order Plus Dead-Time) and SOPDT(Second-Order Plus Dead-Time) process, which are used as the most useful process in industry, are difficult about process identification because of the long dead-time problem and the model mismatch problem. Thus, the accuracy of process identification is the most important problem in FOPDT and SOPDT process control. In this paper, we proposed the real-coded genetic algorithm for identification of FOPDT and SOPDT processes. The proposed method using real-coding genetic algorithm shows better performance characteristic comparing with the existing an area-based identification method and a directed identification method that use step-test responses. The proposed strategy obtained useful result through a number of simulation examples.

An optimal algorithm is presented for feasibility test and scheduling of real-time tasks where tasks are preemptable and created dynamically. Each task has an arbitrary creation time, ready time, maximum execution time, and deadline. Feasibility test and scheduling are conducted via the same algorithm. Time complexity of the algorithm is O(n) for each newly created task where n is the number of tasks. This result improves the previous result of O(n log n). It is shown that the algorithm can be used for scheduling tasks with different levels of importance. Time complexity of the algorithm for the problem is O(n\ulcorner) which improves the previous results of O(n\ulcorner log n).

Multi-view face detection has become an active area for research in the last few years. In this paper, a novel multi-view human face detection algorithm based on improved real Adaboost is presented. Real Adaboost algorithm is improved by weighted combination of weak classifiers and the approximately best combination coefficients are obtained. After that, we proved that the function of sample weight adjusting method and weak classifier training method is to guarantee the independence of weak classifiers. A coarse-to-fine hierarchical face detector combining the high efficiency of Haar feature with pose estimation phase based on our real Adaboost algorithm is proposed. This algorithm reduces training time cost greatly compared with classical real Adaboost algorithm. In addition, it speeds up strong classifier converging and reduces the number of weak classifiers. For frontal face detection, the experiments on MIT+CMU frontal face test set result a 96.4% correct rate with 528 false alarms; for multi-view face in real time test set result a 94.7 % correct rate. The experimental results verified the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The present study has been conducted to simulate dynamics of a gas engine-driven heat pump (GHP) for the design of control algorithm. The dynamic model of a GHP was based on conservation laws of mass and energy. For the control of refrigerant pressures, actuators such as an engine throttle valve, outdoor fans, coolant three-way valves and liquid injection valves were controlled by P or PI algorithm. The simulation results were found to be realistic enough to be applied for the control algorithm design. The model could be applied to build a virtual real-time GHP system so that it interfaces with a real controller for the purpose of developing control algorithm.

In this paper, a real-time collision avoidance algorithm is proposed for experimental Autonomous Vehicle(XAV). To ensure real-time implementation, a virtual potential field is calculated in one dimensional space. The attractive force is generated by the steering command either transmitted in the remote control station or calculated in the Autonomous Navigation System(ANS) of the XAV. The repulsive force is generated by obstacle information obtained from Laser Range Finder(LRF) mounted on the XAV. Using these attractive and repulsive forces, modified steering, velocity and emergency stop commands are created to avoid obstacles and follow a planned path. The suggested algorithm is inserted as one component in the XAV system. Through various real experiments and technical demonstration using the XAV, the usefulness and practicality of the proposed algorithm are verified.
Real-time Object tracking is an important field in developing vision applications such as surveillance systems and vision based navigation. mean-shift algerian and Condensation algorithm are widely used in robust object tracking systems. Since the mean-shift algorithm is easy to implement and is effective in object tracking computation, it is widely used, especially in real-time tracking systems. One of the drawbacks is that it always converges to a local maximum which may not be a global maximum. Therefore, in a cluttered environment, the Mean-shift algorithm does not perform well. On the other hand, since it uses multiple hypotheses, the Condensation algorithm is useful in tracking in a cluttered background. Since it requires a complex object model and many hypotheses, it contains a high computational complexity. Therefore, it is not easy to apply a Condensation algorithm in real-time systems. In this paper, by combining the merits of the Condensation algorithm and the mean-shift algorithm we propose a new model which is suitable for real-time tracking. Although it uses only a few hypotheses, the proposed method use a high-likelihood hypotheses using mean-shift algorithm. As a result, we can obtain a better result than either the result produced by the Condensation algorithm or the result produced by the mean-shift algorithm.

This paper develops an algorithm to determine the batch size of the batch process in real time for improving production and efficient control of production system with multiple processes and batch processes. It is so important to find the batch size of the batch process, because the variability arising from the batch process in the production system affects the capacity of the production. Specifically, batch size could change system efficiency such as throughput, WIP (Work In Process) in production system, batch formation time and so on. In order to improve the system variability and productivity, real time batch size determined by considering the preparation time and batch formation time according to the number of operation of the batch process. The purpose of the study is to control the WIP by applying CONWIP production system method in the production line and implements an algorithm for a real time batch size decision in a batch process that requires long work preparation time and affects system efficiency. In order to verify the efficiency of the developed algorithm that determine the batch size in a real time, an existed production system with fixed the batch size will be implemented first and determines that batch size in real time considering WIP in queue and average lead time in the current system. To comparing the efficiency of a system with a fixed batch size and a system that determines a batch size in real time, the results are analyzed using three evaluation indexes of lead time, throughput, and average WIP of the queue.

This paper presented the real-time self-tuning learning control based on evolutionary computation, which proves its superiority in finding of the optimal solution at the off-line learning method. The individuals of the populations are reduced in order to learn the evolutionary strategy in real-time, and new method that guarantee the convergence of evolutionary mutations is proposed. It is possible to control the control object slightly varied as time changes. As the state value of the control object is generated, evolutionary strategy is applied each sampling time because the learning process of an estimation, selection, mutation is done in real-time. These algorithms can be applied; the people who do not have knowledge about the technical tuning of dynamic systems could design the controller or problems in which the characteristics of the system dynamics are slightly varied as time changes.
