Performance Analysis of Modified TCP/IP for Realtime Control Data Transmission over IEEE-1394 Network (실시간 제어 데이터통신을 위한 IEEE-1394용 수정 TCP/IP의 성능분석)

  • A real-time network in a distributed control system plays an important role for the reliable data transmission. Compared to the field-buses used in the past, TCP/IP protocol on the top of Ethered provides a compatibility between applications as well as an economical method to develop softwares. This paper proposes a modified TCP/IP structure for IEEE-1394 network, with which asynchronous and isochronous data transmission is selectively used for the real-time data transmission in a distributed control system. This paper also shows the performance of the proposed protocol by experiments.

  • Achievements in the real-time soil spectro-photometer are: an improved soil penetrator to ensure a uniform soil surface under high speed conditions, real-time collecting of underground soil reflectance, getting underground soil color images, use of a RTK-GPS, and all units are arranged for compactness. With the soil spectrophotometer, field experiments were conducted in a 0.5 ha paddy field. With the original reflectance, averaging and multiple scatter correction, Kubelka-Munk (KM) transformation as soil absorption, its 1st and 2nd derivatives were calculated. When the spectra was highly correlated with the soil parameters, stepwise regression analysis was conducted. Results include the best prediction models for moisture, soil organic matter (SOM), nitrate nitrogen ($NO_3-N$), pH and electric conductivity (EC), and soil maps obtained by block kriging analysis.

  • This paper is aiming at real-time implementation of adaptive noise cancellation system using DSP processor. ACHARF algorithm, which guarantees stability and fast convergence by adaptive compensator, is used on this DSP system. For the experiments, TLV320AIC23 stereo CODEC of TI Inc. is used with TMS320C6413 DSP processor. Signals of primary input and reference input are obtained by two microphones. The primary input is the voice plus noise signal and the reference input is white noise or real noise. The experimental results show that ANC system using DSP processor with ACHARF is verified to be an effective speech enhancement method for various speech processing units.

  • In this paper, we proposed and developed a fast and efficient real time face detection and recognition which can be run on embedded system instead of high performance desktop. In the face detection process, we detect a face by finding eye part which is one of the most salient facial features after applying various image processing methods, then in the face recognition, we finally recognize the face by comparing the current face with the prepared face database using a template matching algorithm. Also we optimized the algorithm in our system to be successfully used in the embedded system, and performed the face detection and recognition experiments on the embedded board to verify the performance. The developed method can be applied to automatic door, mobile computing environment and various robot.

  • Universal design is an approach to create environments and products that recognizes the diversity of users, regardless of their ability or age. Recently, old person and disabled person rapidly go on increasing in number. So, universal design concept becomes more and more important in product and environment, etc. In this study, we dealt with the universal design problem of microwave oven considering old persons. New design model for microwave oven was developed and evaluated using human factors approach. The principles of universal design was developed through literature survey and questionnaire survey for old persons, and then design alternatives were developed according to these principles. Two experiments were performed in this study. The purpose of the first experiment was to select final design alternative and the experiment was performed using rapid prototypes. The second one was a usability testing for the real model of final alternative. In this experiment, the real model was compared with the existing real product. As the result, the new design model was a little more excellent than the existing model in usability.

  • This paper presents how it is effective to use many features for improving the speed and the accuracy of the visual servo systems. Some rank conditions which relate the image Jacobian and the control performance are derived. It is also proven that the accuracy is improved by increasing the number of features. Effectiveness of the redundant features is evaluated by the smallest singular value of the image Jacobian which is closely related to the accuracy with respect to the world coordinate system. Usefulness of the redundant features is verified by the real time experiments on a Dual-Arm Robot manipulator made in Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd.

  • In this paper, a novel feasible real-time system was researched for a differential driven wheeled autonomous mobile robot so that the mobile robot can move in a smooth, safe and elegant way. Least Square Minimum Path Planning was well used for the system to generate a smooth executable path for the mobile robot, and the point-to-point tracking algorithm was presented as well as its application in arbitrary path tracking. In order to make sure the robot can run elegantly and safely, trapezoidal speed was integrated into the point-to-point path tracking algorithm. The application to guest following for the autonomous mobile robot shows its wide application of the algorithm. The novel design was successfully proved to be feasible by our experiments on our mobile robot Interactive Robot Usher (IRU) in National University of Singapore.

  • In this paper, a high speed graphic processor module with a real-time processing capability is proposed, where the module is design to be compatible to the standard VME bus and consists of TMS34010 Graphic processor, TMS44C251 frame buffer, 512KB system memory and BT101 digital to analog converter. The proposed graphic module is implemented and tested in real-time via experiments with an integrated system with other VME modules.

  • This paper analyses the performance of network system using the CAN(Controller Area Network) protocol. Given messages are assumed to be scheduled by the DMS(Deadline Monotonic Scheduling) algorithm. The mathematical models for time-delay that can be occurred between CAN nodes are defined. The effectiveness of modeling is shown by comparing the difference of time-delay between simulations and practical experiments. We analyse the results according to the variation of factors, such as the number of nodes, the transmission speed, the message size and the number of aperiodic messages through simulation and confirm the real-time performance of lower priority messages. We also investigate the real-time performance of periodic messages when aperiodic message generates.
