The focus of this study is to redesign the Korean license plate by comparing the USA's plate with European plate formed by 1-line system in order to increase a read rate of Korea license plate. And we have compared the read rate of the new design license plate with that of the present license plate and that of the license plate studied so far. As an experimental method (used in a precedent research), we use three kinds of methods that are the measurement of the read-distance, the measurement reading-rate under the short-term exposure and the measurement of the reading-rate when driving. First, three kinds of measurements for plates of five nations are performed. Then we redesign the new Korean license plate under the base of read rates obtained by five nation's plate. As alternatives, we choose five license plates. Those alternatives are the redesigned license plate, the present license plate, the license plate studied so far, and two types of eternity license plates made by the Korea Transport Institute. When we compare results of the read-distance, there is no significant in term of different the read-distance between the alternatives. But there is a significant difference in term of the misreading-rate and the read-rate when diving. Therefore, it is necessary to redesign the present license plates because of a high misreading-rate.
In this paper, we newly developed a passive transponder for visible light identification (VLID) using ultrasonic wave. The solar cell in the transponder receives the reader light and generates current for supplying power to the transponder circuit. At the same time the solar cell detects the interrogating signal in the visible light from the reader. The transponder recognizes the interrogating signal and generates the responding signal using ultrasonic wave. In experiments, we used 40 kHz ultrasonic wave for the responding signal from the transponder. The maximum read distance was about 3.4 m when the transponder was exposed to the reader light of 24W LED array.
The purpose of this study was to find the optimal stroke width-to-height ratio of the Korean character (Hangeul) which yields the greatest reading distance. In this study, black characters on a white background were used under 200 lux conditions in-doors, with the stroke width-to-height ratios ranging from a very thin 1:125 to heavier 1: 8.3. The criterion was the average reading distance at which three subjects (male university students) having normal visual acuity (1.2) could read the characters. Using the data obtained from the experi- ment, we analyzed the relationship between stroke width-to-height ratio and reading distance. In the case of the black characters on a white background, the greatest reading distances occurred with a range from 1:11.4 to 1:17.9.
Safety and health related information for the proper use and handling of pesticides is usually printed on the surface of the pesticide products (bottle type or bag type) in the form of texts. But, the guidelines or standards for the appropriate presentation of the texts for the pesticide products are most vague or not practical. Thus, this study aimed to provide the preliminary guidelines for the text sizes based on the legibility experiments. Total twenty subjects from two age groups (young: n=10, old: n=10, five males and five females in each group) participated in the experiment. First, subjects read the text cards presented in the distance of 50cm from the eyes of the subjects. Eight different text card sets were prepared for different font type(thick gothic-type and fine gothic-type), thickness of font(plain and bold), and number of syllables (2 and 3 syllables). When subjects read the cards, the correctness of reading (correct or wrong) was recorded and the degree of discomfort (from 1: no discomfort at all to 4: can't read at all) was also evaluated for all the text sizes. Results showed that the character size should be 4 pt or larger for the young subjects to read at least one word correctly in all the text conditions. For the old subjects to read at least one word correctly, the character size should be five pt or larder. The average of the minimum character sizes for 100% correct answer is 6.1 pt for young subjects and 10.5 pt for old subjects, respectively.

We designed and implemented fish robots for various purposes such as autonomous navigation, maneuverability control, posture balancing and improvement of quick turns in a tank of 120 X 120 X 180cm size. Typically, fish robots have 30-50 X 15-25 X 10-20cm dimensions; length, width and height, respectively. It is essential to have the ability of quick and smooth turning to avoid collision with obstacles or walls of the water pool at a close distance. Infrared distance sensors are used to detect obstacles, magneto-resistive sensors are used to read direction information, and a two-axis accelerometer is mounted to compensate output of direction sensors. Because of the swing action of its head due to the tail fin movement, the outputs of an infrared distance sensor contain a huge amount of noise around true distances. With the information from accelerometers and e-compass, much improved distance data can be obtained by fuzzy logic based estimation. Successful swimming and smooth turns without collision demonstrated the effectiveness of the distance estimation.
This article examines Laurence Sterne's Sentimental Journey in the context of eighteenth-century British travel literature. While literary critics generally read Sterne's work as a sentimental novel, contemporary readers initially interpreted the text as a travel narrative. It is my argument that travel writing, particularly the motion entailed in travelling, plays a significant role in Sterne's critical examination of sympathy and its cultural function during this period. By narrating in great detail his narrator Yorick's mobility and the effects it has on his sentimental encounters, Sterne illustrates how sympathy is not only difficult to activate and therefore requires added stimulation in the form of motion, but also does not necessarily result in charitable actions, a moral failure that is dramatized by the literal distance Yorick maintains from the objects of his sympathy. Calling to mind the figurative distance that constitutes an integral part of Adam Smith's formulation of sympathy in The Theory of Moral Sentiments, the distance Yorick establishes through his travels indicates sympathy's failure to bridge the emotional and socioeconomic distance between individuals, thereby highlighting sympathy's limitations as a moral instrument. I argue that by using Yorick's repeated acts of sympathy to explore the problems of sentimentalism, Sterne both draws from and innovates the tradition of employing imaginary voyages to engage in philosophical inquiries.

Through the analysis of Gerhard Richter's works of art in the period of "fuzzy image", this paper expounds the special internal quality of fuzzy image in Richter's works and reveals an important direction of the development of contemporary easel painting, The special essence of Richter's vague image is that he uses photos to reflect the power and authenticity of the existence of the objective things. He was not satisfied with the radical way of modern painting and tried to return to the traditional way of painting, but in fact Richter kept a special distance between classical painting and modern art. Richter not only blurs the image in his creation, but also shows that he wants to show the objectivity of things, keep the distance, authenticity and give up painting. Richter used fuzzy images to capture the concept of "visual unconsciousness", and finally separated from the concept. When we read how Richter showed the reality of things in the way of painting, we also saw a kind of contradictory psychology when he faced the complicated objective.
This study investigates the differences in acoustic parameters in vowel space across hearing loss, gender and vowels. The parameters include F1, F2, Euclidean Distance between vowels, and vowel triangular area comprised of /i/, /a/ and /u/. For this study, 20 hearing-impaired and normal hearing adults as a control group were asked to read 7 Korean vowels (/a, $\wedge$, o, u, w, i, $\varepsilon$/). Subjects' readings were recorded by NasalView and analyzed by Praat. Results showed that F1 were significantly higher in the hearing impaired group than in the normal hearing group, higher in the female group than in male group, and higher in low vowels than in high vowels. And the means of F2 was significantly higher in the hearing impaired group than in normal hearing group, higher in high vowels than in low vowels, and there was no difference between male and female group. Secondly, Euclidean distance between vowels was significantly shorter in the hearing-impaired group than in the normal group. Finally, acoustic vowel space area was significantly smaller in the hearing-impaired group than in the normal hearing group. The hearing-impaired group showed that front vowels tended to be backed and back vowels to be fronted.

This study deals with the degree of enclosure on the Court Space in 'Suh-Won' that has warious perceptual composition elements. 1. The size of Court Space in which we can read the complexion of others and easily understand every behavior of them is similar to that of the 'Madang' in the Korean traditional houses. 2. The angles of elevation are within the range of suitable enclosure as going from the center of the court Space to 'Kang-Dang' and the space -from the center of the Court Space to 'Kang-Dang'- is restricted and surrounded. It is also within the range of the least enclosure as going from the center of the Court Space to the 'Mun-Ru'. 3. The degrees of enclosure based on the horizontal angle are within the degree we can perceive the objects of structure easily. 4. The degree of enclosure based on the ratio D/H is increased as approaching from 'Mun-Ru' to 'Kang-Dang'. The distance as approaching from 'Mun-Ru' to 'Kang-Dang' is changed from social distance to personal distance. To conclude this the Court Space in 'Suh-Won' represents the hierarchical system with variety and the degree of enclosure and the size of space are within the range of human scale.

In this paper, the effects of a metal plane on the performance of a meandered slot RFID antenna are evaluated in a real environment, and 3 metal plane cases are considered (the most likely scenarios in which metal conductive materials are placed near the tag antenna). The metal plane effects can be categorized as matching degradation and antenna gain variation. First, matching degradation due to the antenna's induced mutual impedance is experimentally investigated. In addition, the gain variation is investigated to figure out the change in the radiation characteristics. With the derived antenna parameters, the read range is calculated with the Friis transmission equation and measured to analyze the effects of a metal plane on RFID system performance. The calculated and measured read range varies from 9.3 m to 19.1 m as the distance between the RFID antenna and the metal plane changes.
