CuI Nanoparticles as New, Efficient and Reusable Catalyst for the One-pot Synthesis of 1,4-Dihydropyridines

  • A simple one-pot synthesis of two derivatives of 1,4-dihydropyridines has been described under reflux conditions using copper iodide nanoparticles (CuI NPs) as a catalyst in high yields. This method demonstrated four-component coupling reactions of aldehydes and ammonium acetate via two pathways. In one route, the reaction was performed using 2 eq ethyl acetoacetate while in the other one 1 eq ethyl acetoacetate and 1 eq malononitrile were used. The CuI NPs was reused and recycled without any loss of activity and product yield. It is noteworthy to state that wide range of the 1,4-dihydropyridines have attracted large interest due to pharmacological and biological activities.

  • K-7174, a GATA-specific inhibitor, is a putative anti-inflammatory agent that attenuates effects of inflammatory cytokines in certain cell types. An expeditious four-step synthesis of K-7174 is described in this paper. The route employs Wittig olefination and bis-alkylation of homopiperazine as the key reactions. The iodine-catalyzed isomerization of the Z-isomer results in complete conversion to the E-isomer is the highlight of our synthetic endeavors.

  • An easy and efficient route for the synthesis of some imidazo[1,2-c]pyrazolo[4,3-e]pyrimidines 3-6, imidazo[1,2-c]pyrazolo[4,3-e]triazine 8, pyrazolo[4,3-e]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidines 12-15 and pyrazolo-[3',4':4,5]pyrimido[1,6-b]triazines 16, 17 was described through the reaction of readily available 5-aminopyrazole-4-carbonitrile 1 with different reagents. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of some synthesized compounds was examined. Most of the tested compounds proved to be active as antibacterial and antifungal agents.

Photoelectrochemical characterization of surface-modified CuInS2 nanorod arrays prepared via template-assisted growth and transfer

  • Although vertically aligned one-dimensional (1D) structure has been considered as efficient forms for photoelectrode, development of efficient 1D nanostructured photocathode are still required. In this sense, we recently demonstrated a simple fabrication route for CuInS2 (CIS) nanorod arrays from aqueous solution by template-assisted growth-and-transfer method and their feasibility as a photoelectrode for water splitting. In this study, we further evaluated the photoelectrochemical properties surface-modified CIS nanorod arrays. Surface modification with CdS and ZnS was performed by successive ion layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method, which is well known as suitable technique for conformal coating throughout nanoporous structure. With surface modification of CdS and ZnS, both photoelectrochemical performance and stability of CuInS2 nanorod arrays were improved by shifting of the flat-band potential, which was analyzed both onset potential and Mott-schottky plot.

  • Phase pure barium magnesium tantalate $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$(BMT) nanopowders were synthesized at temperature as low as $220^{\circ}C$ through glycothermal reaction by using $Ba(OH)_2{\cdot}8H_2O$, $Mg(NO_3){\cdot}6H_2O$, and $TaCl_5$ as precursors and 1,4-butandiol as solvent. XRD, SEM, and TGA data support that glycothermal processing method provides a simple low temperature route for producing fine grained BMT nanopowders without alkaline mineralizers. BMT nanopowders synthesized at $220^{\circ}C$ showed more homogenous with rounded morphologies.

  • Composition in the (Znl-xNix)2TiO4+ yTiO2 system (x=0-0.5, y=0-0.35) were synthesized via the solid-state reaction route. The incorporation of titanium, in the form of TiO2, in (Znl-xNix)2TiO4 spinel ceramics were investigated by analyzing the crystal structure and measuring the dielectric properties. The result of the crystal structure analysis suggested that TiO2 level of 0.01 y 0.33 could be incorporated into the (Znl-xNix)2TiO4 spinel. The change of incorporated TiO2 level is related with Co-content as a inverse proportion and the variation of lattice parameter and dielectric properties were supported the result.

  • New synthetic route and characterization of alkyl-capped nanocrystalline silicon (R-n-Si) were achieved from the reaction of silicon tetrachloride with sodium/benzophenone ketal reducing agent followed by n-butyllithium. Surface of silicon nanoparticles was derivatized with butyl group. Effect of oxidation of silicon nanoparticle with benzophenone was investigated for their stabilization. Optical characteristics of silicon nanoparticles were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Butyl-capped silicon nanoparticles exhibited an emission band at 410 nm with excitation wavelength of 360 nm. Average size of n-butyl-capped silicon nanoparticles was obtained by particle size analyzer (PSA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Average size of n-butyl-capped Si nanoparticles was about 6.5 nm.

  • Polycrystalline samples of $(Ru_{0.8}Nb_{0.2})Sr_2(Gd_{1.5-x}Nd_xCe_{0.5})Cu_2O_z$($ 0{\leq}x{\leq}1.25$) have been synthesized by a solid-state reaction route. The X-ray diffraction data revealed that the Nd solubility limit can be placed between x=0.5 and x=0.75. The superconducting transition temperature decreased with increasing Nd content, confirming that Nd entered the lattice. Room-temperature thermoelectric power measurements showed that all the samples are in the underdoped state and the partial substitution of Nd for Gd resulted in a decrease in the carrier density on the superconducting layers.

  • A novel diamine monomer, containing fluorine and phosphine oxide, bis(3-aminophenyl) 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (mDA6FPPO), was prepared via Grignard reaction, and utilized to prepare polyimides with dianhydrides such as PMDA, 6FDA, BTDA or ODPA, by the conventional two-step route; preparation of poly(amic acid), followed by solution imidization. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, and DSC with intrinsic viscosity and refractive index also being evaluated. A phosphine oxide containing monomer, bis(3-aminophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (mDAPPO) and a commercial 3,3-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (mDDS) were also used for comparison. The polyimides derived from mDA6FPPO exhibited high T$\sub$g/, excellent solubility and low birefringence.

  • Langasite({{{{ { La}_{ 3} {Ga }_{5 } {SiO }_{14 } , LGS}}}}) powder was prepared by a polymerized complex method based on the Pechini-type reaction. A mixed solution of ethylene glycol(EG), cotric acid(CA), lanthanum, gallium and silicon ions, with a molar ratio of EG:CA:La:Ga:Si=100:25:3:5:1, was polymerzed to from a transparent resin, which was used as a precursor for the synthesis of LGS. X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns indicated that the LGS phase could be formed by the heat-treatment in air at 1000$^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs
