We propose a new concept of hydrogen absorbing alloy, "Laves phase related BCC solid solution". It was firstly found among the phases tormed in multicomponent nominal $AB_2$ alloys which consisted of Zr and Ti for the A metal site and 5A, 6A and 7A transition metals for the B metal sites. In these alloys a BCC solid solution often coexisted with a Laves phase. It showed stability of hydrides and reaction kinetics almost identical to intermetallics such as Laves phase alloys. We prepared an almost pure "Laves phase related BCC solid solution" and found that it had a large hydrogen capacity (more than 2 mass%) and fast hydrogen absorption and desorption kinetics at ambient temperature and pressure. This new hydrogen absorbing alloy may open a new era of hydrogen related application such as hydrogen vehicles.
Air-assisted atomizer flames are investigated numerically to study spray structures in nonburning and burning conditions based on experimental data. A PDA is used to measure droplet size, velocity, and number density for both nonburning and burning spray. Computations utilize time-averaged gas-phase equations and $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model for simplicity. The major features of the liquid-phase model are that a SSF approach is used to represent the effect of gas-phase turbulence on droplet trajectories and vaporization, an infinite-diffusion model is employed to represent the transient liquid-phase process. Computation and experiment results show that the droplet acceleration and evaporation proceed quickly in near the atomizer, characterizing high number densities and a strong convective effect. The primary combustion zone, however, is dorminated by the gas phase reaction and exhibits a sheath combustion.
A well oriented Bi2212 superconductor thick films were fabricated by screen printing with a Cu-free Bi-Sr-Ca-O mixture powder on a copper plate and heat-treating at 820-88$0^{\circ}C$ for several minute in air. During the heat-treatment, the printing layer partially melted by reaction between the Cu-free precursor and CuO of the oxidizing copper plate. In the partial melting state, it is believed that the solid phase is Bi-free phase and Cu-rich phase and the composition of the liquid is around Bi : Sr : Ca : Cu = 2 : 2 : 0 : 1. Following the partial melting, the Bi2212 superconducting phase is formed at Bi-free phase/liquid interface by nucleation and grows. With decreasing the Bi composition in the precursor powder, the critical temperature(T$_{c}$) of the fabricated Bi2212 thick film increased to about 79 K.K.

Calcium-hexaluminate phase $(CA_6)$ is known to be effective for the crack shielding due to the spinel block crystal structure. In this study, we focused to the control of $CA_6$ morphology for good damage tolerance behavior in alumina and zirconia/calcium-hexaluminate $(CA_6)$ composites. Calcium-hexaluminate $(CA_6)$ composites were prepared from zirconia, alumina and calcium carbornate powders. Calcium-hexaluminate $(CA_6)$ phase was obtained by the solid reaction through the formation of intermediate phase $(CA_2)$. $CA_6$ phase showed the column type abnormal grain grown behavior composed of small blocks. Due to the typical microstructure of $CA_6$, alumina and zirconia/calcium-hexaluminate composites provide a well controlled crack propagation behavior.
Enantiomeric separation of free amino acids has been achieved by a reversed phase liquid chromatography with addition of a Cu(Ⅱ) complex of N-alkyl-L-proline (alkyl: propyl, pentyl or octyl) to the mobile phase. The amino acids eluted were detected by a postcolumn OPA system. N-alkyl-L-proline was prepared and used as a chiral ligand of Cu(Ⅱ) chelate for the enantiomeric separation. The concentration of the Cu(Ⅱ) chelate, the organic modifier and pH affect the enantiomeric separation of free amino acids. The retention behaviour, varied with change in pH and the concentration of the Cu(Ⅱ) chelate, was different compared with those of the derivatized amino acids. The elution orders between D- and L-forms were consistent except histidine showing that L-forms elute earlier than D-forms. The retention mechanism for the enantiomeric separation can be illustrated by the stereospecificity of the ligand exchange reaction and the hydrophobic interaction between the substituent of amino acids and reversed phase, $C_18$.
The objective of this study is to identify the kinematic variables of giant swing backward to handstand as well as individual variations of each athlete performing this skill, which in turn will provide the basis for developing suitable training methods and for improving athlete's performance in actual games. For this end, 3 male athletes, members of the national team, who are in ${\Box}{\Box}H{\Box}{\Box}$ University, have been randomly chosen and their giant swing backward to handstand performance was recorded using two digital cameras and analyzed in 3 dimensional graphics. This study came to the following conclusion. 1. Proper time allocation for giant swing backward to handstand are: Phase 1 should provide enough time to attain energy for swing track of a grand round movement. The phase 3 is to throw the body up high in the air and stay in the air as long as possible to smoothen up the transition to the next stage and the phase 4 should be kept short with the moment arm coefficient of the body reduced. 2. As for appropriate changes of locations of body center, the phase 1 should be comprised of horizontal, perpendicular, compositional to make up a big rotational radius. Up to the Phase 3 the changes of displacements of vertical locations should be a good scale and athlete's body should go up high quickly to increase the perpendicular climbing power 3. When it comes to the speed changes of body center, the vertical and horizontal speed should be spurred by the reaction of the body in Phase 2 and Phase 3. In the Phase 4, fast vertical speed throws the body center up high to ensure enough time for in-the-air movement. 4. The changes of angles of body center are: in Phase 2, shoulder joint is stretching and coxa should be curved up to utilize the body reaction. In the Phase 4, shoulder joint and coxa should be stretched out to get the body center as high as possible in the air for stable landing. 5. The speeds of changes in joints angles are: in the Phase 2 should have the speed of angles of shoulder joints increase to get the body up in the air as quickly as possible. The Phase 3 should have the speed of angles in shoulder joint slow down, while putting the angles of a knee joint up to speed as quickly as possible to ensure enough time for in-the-air movement.
The corrosion fatigue fracture behaviour of dual phase steel was investigated in 3% NaCl solution at 302MPa and 137MPa. Fatigue test was conducted by cantilever type of self-made rotary bending fatigue testing machine. The fatigue strength increased with increasing the hardness of 2nd phase. Corrosion pit originated at the boundary of the 2nd phase. The size and number of corrosion pits were influenced by the 2nd phase hardness, and pits remained constant in size just after they were transited into cracks. The life of crack initiation was effected by stress level. The shape of relation of .DELTA. K and da/dN has smaller scattering in it in 3% NaCl solution than that in air. The higher the 2nd phase hardness is, the greater the corrosion fatigue life becomes. Corrosion fatigue fracture behaviour was primarily effected by mechanical factor in case of high stress(302MPa), but by electro-chemical reaction in a lower stress(137MPa). As stress level got lower and hardness of the 2nd phase got higher, the roughness of fracture surface increased.
The Ti3SiC2 MAX phase was synthesized by arc-melting process under three different processing times. We confirmed that the reaction between the TiCX phase and Ti-Si liquid phase is important for the synthesis of the Ti3SiC2 MAX phase. Results suggest that the Ti3SiC2 MAX phase decomposed when the arc-melting time was greater than 80s. Herein, we aim to determine the detailed parameters for the reported arc-melting process, which can provide useful insights on the synthesis of the Ti3SiC2 MAX phase by arc-melting process. Furthermore, we compared the electrical characteristics and densities of the three samples.
Good-to-excellent yields of 2,3-Disubstituted norbornenes (or norbornanes) were obtained using a Pd/Cu catalyzed three-component ternary coupling reaction of aryl halides, norbornadiene (or norbornene), and alkynols in toluene at $100{\circ}C$ in the presence of 5.5 M NaOH as a base and benzyltriethylammonium chloride as a phase transfer catalyst. The results of experiments using various aromatic halides suggest that the ternary coupling reaction is promoted by bromide.
