Linearity of ratio error of instrument transformer comparator has been tested using wide ratio error voltage transformer(VT) with the ratio errors in the range of -3 % to 3 %. The technique is the method for evaluation of the linearity for instrument transformer comparator by comparing both the theoretical and experimental values in wide ratio error VT. The developed method has been successfully applied for calibration and correction in instrument transformer comparator belonging to industry.
This paper deals with transformer turns ratio design with the consideration of loss minimization in isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. Generally, the rms value of current, magnitude of current at switching instance, and duty ratio of a converter vary according to the turns ratio of an isolation transformer in the converter under the same voltages and output power level. Therefore, the transformer turns ratio has an effect on the total loss in a converter. The switching and conduction losses of IGBTs and MOSFETs consisting of dual-active bridge converter are analyzed, and iron and copper losses in an isolation transformer and inductor are calculated. Total losses are calculated and measured in cases of four different transformer turns ratios through simulation and experiment with 3-kW converter, and an optimum turns ratio that provides minimum losses is found. The usefulness of the proposed transformer turns ratio design approach is verified through simulation and experimental results.
A precise ratio transformer which is used to a ratio arm of a precise impedance measurement bridge at low frequencies was developed. The developed ratio transformer has the ratio taps of 1:1, 2:1, $\cdots$, to 10:1 in order to measure the primary impedance standards by substitution and special winding techniques for 10:1 ratio that is used frequently for impedance build up/down. The calibration results of the transformer has inphase and quadrature error of $0.073\times10^{-6}$ and $0.14\times10^{-6}$ respectively at 1.6 kHz.
The piezoelectric transformers of 2.0x10x48 ㎣ size were fabricated with PSN-PMN-PZT(T10 and PNW-PMN-PZT(T2) composition ceramics. Effects of micro structural and piezoelectric properties on the electrical characteristics of the piezoelectric transformers were investigated. Under the fixed output power of 6 W, temperature rise of T1 transformer at the optimum load was smaller than T2 one because of fine grain size effect. Voltage step-up ratio of T1 transformer showed higher value than T2 one T1 transformer showed an excellent properties with voltage step-up ratio of 12.41, efficiency of 95.23% and temperature rise of 7.2$^{\circ}C$ at 200㏀ load resistance. And also, T2 transformer showed an excellent properties with voltage step up ratio of 9.81, efficiency of 95.51% and temperature rise of 9$^{\circ}C$ at 150㏀ load resistance.
For high voltage operation, a new type of piezoelectric transformer using radial vibration of disk, poled with the same direction was proposed. The piezoelectric ceramics was composed to PZT-PMN-PSN. The diameter and thickness of a disk type piezoelectric transformer were 45[mm]and 4[mm], respectively The surface ratio of driving electrode and generating electrode of the piezoelectric transformer was 2 : 1. The resonance characteristics of input admittance, step-up voltage ratio and power transmission efficiency of the piezoelectric transformer were measured by varying the load resistance(0.1∼70[kΩ]). As a result, both resonance frequency and step-up voltage ratio increased with increasing load resistance. The step-up voltage ratio was reached more than 60 times under no load resistance. The maximum efficiency of 97% at load resistance of 2kΩ was obtained.
This paper describes a transformer protective relaying algorithm based on the ratio of increments of flux linkages (RIFL) of the primary and secondary windings. The algorithm uses integration approximation. The RIFL is equal to the turns ratio for all operating conditions except for an internal fault. For a single-phase transformer and a Y-Y transformer, the increments of flux linkages (IFL) are calculated. For a Y-$\Delta$ transformer, the difference of IFL are calculated to use the line currents rather than the delta winding currents, which are unavailable. Their ratios are compared with the turns ratio. The comparative study between the proposed and conventional differentiation approximation methods was conducted. The test results show that the algorithm reduces the approximation errors of the conventional methods.
This paper present a new disk-type piezoelectric transformer. The input side of the transformer has a crescent-shaped electrode and the output side has a focused poling direction. This transformer has multi-layered structure. The piezoelectric transformers operated m each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercialy available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor ($k_p,\;k_{15}$) becomes effective rather than the transverse mode coupling factor ($k_{31}$). The Resonance frequency is 65.22[kHz] and maximum voltage step-up ratio is 149. Multi-layered transformer has better efficiency and step-up ratio than the single-layered transformer.
We tried to combine a transformer with a superconducting element and investigated the current limiting characteristics. When a superconducting element was connected to third winding of the transformer, the fault current was limited to about 90 % effectively. The fault current and consumption power were able to be controlled by the turn's ratio of secondary and third windings. It gives flexibility of the rating of a transformer in the power grid. As a result, power burden of a superconducting element was reduced by the decrease of turn's ratio in third winding of a transformer. It was because the voltage behavior of a superconducting element was dependent on turn's ratio of a transformer while the current characteristic was independent.
This paper presents a new disk-type piezoelectric transformer. The input side of the transformer has a crescent-shaped electrode and the output side has a focused poling direction. The piezoelectric transformers operated in each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercially available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor $(k_p\;k_{15})$ becomes effective rather than the transverse mode coupling factor $(k_{31})$. ANSYS finite element code was used to analyze transformer behavior and to optimize electrode and poling configurations. The voltage step-up ratio of the proposed transformer has been markedly improved in comparison with that of the equivalent rectangular(Rosen) type. A single layer prototype transformer, $20\sim30mm$ in diameter and $1.0\sim3.5mm$ thick, was fabricated, such as step-up ratio, power transformation efficiency, and temperature were measured. While the transformer was driving a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp(CCFL), the temperature field of the transformer was also observed.
In transformer fault diagnosis, dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is been widely employed for a long period and numerous methods have been innovated to interpret its results. Still in some cases it fails to identify the corresponding faults. Due to the limitation of training data and non-linearity, the estimation of key-gas ratio in the transformer oil becomes more complicated. This paper presents Intuitionistic Fuzzy expert System (IFS) to diagnose several faults in a transformer. This revised approach is well suitable to diagnosis the transformer faults and the corresponding action to be taken. The proposed method is applied to an independent data of different power transformers and various case studies of historic trends of transformer units. It has been proved to be a very advantageous tool for transformer diagnosis and upkeep planning. This method has been successfully used to identify the type of fault developing within a transformer even if there is conflict in the results of AI technique applied to DGA data.
