  • The present investigation was estimated the effect of temperature, precipitatiion, and time on the decomposition of litters with litter bags of Pinus densiffora and Quercus mongolica at Gure where elevation in 50m, and at Nogodan where elevation in 1300m on Mt. Jiri. As the above results, decomposition model was proposed to relation of the environmental conditions. And was investigated the production and decomposition of litters from the stands of various forest communities in Kwangneung, Mt. Jiri and Mt. Halla. The results are as follows; The models for the decay of organic carbon (C) was as follows: $C=Coe^{-Kt}$ (limiting factor;time) $C=Coe^{-K'te}$ (limiting factor;tempedrature) $C=Coe^{-KnP}$ (limiting factor:precipitation) As observed in litter bag method, the decomposition rate of litter in Pinus densiflora was slower than that of Quercus mongolica. The higher elevation, the slower decomposition rate. The decomposition of litters at Gure where elevation in 50m was equally influenced by temperature and precipitation. But at Nogodan where elevation in 1300m was much inflenced by precipitation. The decay constant of litters was larger in hardwood forest than in coniferous forest. In the same species, the more elevatiion, the less decomposition constant. The time required for the decay of 50%, 95^, 99% of the accumulated litters in the forest floor were faster in hardwood forest than in coniferous forest. In the same species, the higher elevatiion, the longer time required.

  • In this paper we describe the solid-state ac-circuit breaker which has the characteristic of both a half cycle circuit breaker and a current limiting circuit breaker. This circuit breaker has a current limiting resistor in order to surprises the fault current to a certain level and discharge the energe included in circuit inductor. We explain the effect of circuit parameter on transient phenomena of switch device by using EMTP and finally design the control circuit consisted synchronous closing circuit, over- current detecting circuit and sensing circuit of rate of rise of fault current.

  • We investigated the quench velocity of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) dependent on the source voltage. $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) thin film was used as the current limiting element for SFCL. The analysis on the quench velocity of SFCL is essential to determine the capacity of circuit breaker (CB) or coordinate with CB. Generally, the quench velocity of SFCL is related with the short-circuit current. To change the short-circuit current, in this paper, the amplitude of the power source voltage is adjusted. Through the fault current limiting experiments, the quench velocity of SFCL was confirmed to increase fast as the source voltage increased. On the other hand, the peak limited current was shown to increase with steady rate of increase.

  • For the almost certainly convergent series $S_n$ of independent random variables the limiting behavior of tail series ${T_n}{\equiv}S-S_{n-1}$ is reviewed. More specifically, tail series strong laws of large number and tail series weak laws of large numbers will be introduced, and their relationship will be investigated. Then, the relationship will also be extended to the case of Banach space valued random elements, by investigating the duality between the limiting behavior of the tail series of random variables and that of random elements.

  • This study was to discuss limiting factors influenced on the removal efficiencies of nitrogenous compounds investigated using the polypropyrene media which was to attach microorganism in order to apply the fixed-biofilm process. The main limiting factors are the hydraulic retention time (HRT), C/N ratio, $COD/NO_{3}-N$ ratio and temperature. The hydraulic retention time HRT were 6, 8, 10, 12 hrs and the C/N ratio range was 2.5-9.5. The $COD/NO_{3}-N$ ratio range was 3.2-21.9 and the temperature were 15, 20, 25, 30, $35^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results of this study are summerized as follows. 1. Hydraulic retention time (HRT) to obtain removal efficiencies of T-N higher than 85% had to be 10 hrs above. 2. The removal efficiencies of T-N decreased at C/N ratio from 6.2 to 4.8 in this anoxic-contact aeration system. 3. Denitrification rate decreased at $COD/NO$_{3}$-N$ ratio from 8.0 to 5.0 4. As temperature increased, removal efficiencies of T-N increased.

  • The nucleophilic substitution reactions of Y-aryl ethyl isothiocyanophosphates with substituted X-anilines and deuterated X-anilines were investigated kinetically in acetonitrile at $75.0^{\circ}C$. The free energy relationships with X in the nucleophiles exhibited biphasic concave downwards with a break point at X = H. A stepwise mechanism with rate-limiting bond formation for strongly basic anilines and with rate-limiting bond breaking for weakly basic anilines is proposed based on the negative and positive ${\rho}_{XY}$ values, respectively. The deuterium kinetic isotope effects (DKIEs; $k_H/k_D$) changed gradually from primary normal with strongly basic anilines, via primary normal and secondary inverse with aniline, to secondary inverse with weakly basic anilines. The primary normal and secondary inverse DKIEs were rationalized by frontside attack involving hydrogen bonded, four-center-type TSf and backside attack involving in-line-type TSb, respectively.

  • In this paper, various replacement policies for the general failure model are considered. There are two types of failure in the general failure model. One is Type I failure (minor failure) which can be removed by a minimal repair and the other is Type II failure (catastrophic failure) which can be removed only by a complete repair. In this model, when the unit fails at its age t, Type I failure occurs with probability 1-p(t) and Type II failure occurs with probability p(t), $0{\leq}p(t){\leq}1$. Under the model, optimal replacement policies for the long-run average cost rate and the limiting efficiency are considered. Also taking the cost and the efficiency into consideration at the same time, the properties of the optimal policies under the Cost-Priority-Criterion and the Efficiency-Priority-Criterion are obtained.

  • The nucleophilic substitution reactions of bis(Y-aryl) chlorothiophosphates (1) with X-pyridines are investigated kinetically in acetonitrile at $35.0^{\circ}C$. The free energy relationships with both X and Y are biphasic concave upwards with a break point at X = 3-Ph and Y = H, respectively. The sign of cross-interaction constants (CICs; ${\rho}_{XY}$) is positive with all X and Y. Proposed mechanism is a stepwise process with a rate-limiting leaving group departure from the intermediate with all X and Y. The kinetic results of 1 are compared with those of Y-aryl phenyl chlorothiophosphates (2). In the case of Y = electron-withdrawing groups, the cross-interaction between Y and Y, due to additional substituent Y, is significant enough to change the sign of ${\rho}_{XY}$ from negative with 2 to positive with 1, indicative of the change of mechanism from a rate-limiting bond formation to bond breaking.

  • We analyzed the characteristics of a power system with superconducting fault current limiter and showed the possibility of the application of a superconducting fault current limiter to a real power system through manufacturing of and experiment about 220Vrms/100Apeak class superconducting fault current limiter. We experimentally confirmed that the overvoltage of superconducting fault current limiter increased as the rate of current sharing to the limiting coil grew. The fault current could be limited within a few milliseconds when it was applied to a power system in series. Therefore, we could confirm that superconducting fault current limiter was effective in protection of a substation or power plant at short-circuit fault. (author). 7 refs., 7 figs., 2 tabs.
