  • This study was conducted experimentally to investigate the surface temperature of the heat sink, the air temperature in the flow channel and the sample temperature by changing the channel number of channel type heat sink and the air flow rate when heating and cooling the bio sample. The target temperature of the sample was 15℃ or less as the minimum value and 82℃ or more as the maximum value. In this study, the channel number of the heat sink(N = 1, 2, 4, 5, 10) and the air flow rate(Q=25, 42, 54m3/min) were varied. The bio sample was replaced with water, and the volume of water is 4mL. The size of the heat sink is 80x73x150mm and the material is aluminum. When cooling the sample, the surface temperature, the air temperature and the sample temperature were highly dependent on the number of channels and the flow rate. However, when the sample is heated, the surface temperature, air temperature and sample temperature do not depend on the number of channels and the flow rate. It was found that the conditions for satisfying the minimum temperature of 15℃ or less when cooling the sample were the number of channels N≥5 and the flow rate Q≥42m3/min. When heating the sample, the conditions to satisfy the maximum temperature of 82℃ or more are the number of channels N≤5 and the air flow rate Q≤42m3/min.

  • Hydration heat and thermal induced cracking have always been a fatal problem for massive concrete structures. In order to study a massive reinforced concrete wall of a storage tank for liquefied natural gas (LNG) during its construction, two mock-ups of $0.8m{\times}0.8m{\times}0.8m$ without and with metal corrugated pipes were designed based on the actual wall construction plan. Temperature distribution and strain development of both mock-ups were measured and compared inside and on the surface of them. Meanwhile, time-dependent thermal and mechanical properties of the concrete were tested standardly and introduced into the finite-element (FE) software with a proposed hydration degree model. According to the comparison results, the FE simulation of temperature field agreed well with the measured data. Besides, the maximum temperature rise was slightly higher and the shrinkage was generally larger in the mock-up without pipes, indicating that corrugated pipes could reduce concrete temperature and decrease shrinkage of surrounding concrete. In addition, the cooling rate decreased approximately linearly with the reduction of heat transfer coefficient h, implying that a target cooling curve can be achieved by calculating a desired coefficient h. Moreover, the maximum cooling rate did not necessarily decrease with the extension of demoulding time. It is better to remove the formwork at least after 116 hours after concrete casting, which promises lower risk of thermal cracking of early-age concrete.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the antitumor, hepatoprotective and antimutagenic activities on hot water extract of Phellinus gilvus (PGE). Growth of tumor in mice that were orally given $0.25,0.5,1.0,2.0g\;kg^{-1}$ dose of PGE was inhibited in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.05). The hepatoprotective effect of PGE in the carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$)-intoxicated rats was studied. In $CCl_4$ + PGE group, PGE was orally administered with 100 mg/kg/day dose 7 days before the treatment of $CCl_4$. The serum activity of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in $CCl_4$ + PGE group were decreased at a rate of 59.6% and 54.1% compared with those in $CCl_4$ group, respectively (p < 0.05). Also, total cholesterol and triglyceride in $CCl_4$ + PGE group were significantly decreased at a rate of 90% and 73.6% compared with those in $CCl_4$ group (p < 0.05). In the Ames test, we confirmed PGE doesn't have any activity as a mutant, and PGE showed inhibitory effect against mutagenesis induced by 2-amino fluride and sodium azide in Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100 and TA1535 in a dose-dependent manner. From the above results, we may suggest that PGE might have useful as a material for functional food and/or animal pharmaceutics.

  • This study was performed to evaluate anti-thrombotic activities and anti-inflammatory effects of ChungyeolHaedogHwaeoTang water extract(CHHT). The results were summarized as follows. In experiment of anti-thrombotic effect; 1. CHHT inhibited human platelet aggregation induced by ADP and epinephrine as compared with the control group, and inhibited pulmonary embolism induced by collagen and epinephrine (inhibitory rate is 37.5%). 2. CHHT increased platelet number significantly, and also CHHT shortened PT and APTT significantly as compared with the control group in thrombus model induced by dextran. In experiment of anti-inflammatory effect; 3. CHHT inhibited $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$, COX-2 and NOS-II mRNA expression as compared with the control group in a concentration-dependent degree, and inhibited NO production significantly at 50, 100 ${\mu}g/ml$, and also inhibited ROS production in a concentration-dependent degree as compared with the control of group in RAW 264.7 cell line. 4. CHHT inhibited $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6 and TNF-${\alpha}$ production significantly in serum of acute inflammation-induced mice, and decreased $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6 and TNF-${\alpha}$ production in spleen tissue, and also decreased $IL-1{\beta}$, and IL-6 production in liver tissue, but increased TNF-${\alpha}$ production in liver tissue of acute inflammation-induced Balb/c mice. 5. CHHT increased survival rate from the 3rd day in ICR mice with lethal endotoxemia induced by LPS. These results suggest that CHHT can be useful in treating diverse female diseases caused by thrombosis and inflammation such as menstrual pain, menstrual disorder, leukorrhea, vaginitis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease and so on.

  • The effect of various supplies of lead singly and in combination with aluminium on growth and chlorophyll biosynthesis was investigated in 7-day-old Vigna anguluris seedlings. Expose to 50 $\mu$N Pb or more drastically reduced root elongation rate. Significant depressions in root growth was observed within 1 day and no recovery of growth was seen over the duration of treatment period. Root elongation decreased depending on the Pb concentrations. Root growth inhibition was stronger than shoot growth inhibition. The initiation of lateral roots appeared to be more sensitive to Pb than the growth of main roots. Inhibition of root and shoot elongation by Pb was lessened by combined exposure of Pb and Al, suggesting that the presence of AA reverse the inhibitory effect of Pb alone. With the histochemical sodium rhodizonate method the rate of Pb uptake was dependent on the Pb concentration and exposure time of the roots to Pb salts. Pb was first deposited on the root surface and then translocated radially in the root cap cells. During a longer Pb administration (up to 72 h) Pb penetration was nonuniform, with accumulation within the cortex or endodermis. There was drastic reduction in chlorophyll content by Pb. The Pb inhibition of chlorophyll synthesis was concentration dependent. 5-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) activity exhibited distinct inhibition from control. Reduction in chlorophyll content was accompanied by proportional changes in ALAD activity. Chlorophyll content and ALAD activity were less affected by combined exposure of Pb and Al, suggesting that Al has a protective effect against the inhibiting action of Pb on photosynthetic activity.

  • Even though fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been widely used as a retrofitting material, the FRP behavior and effect in FRP retrofitted structure under blast loading, impulsive loading with instantaneous time duration, has not been accurately examined. The past studies have focused on the performance of FRP retrofitted structures by making simplifications in modeling, without incorporating accurate failure mechanisms of FRP. Therefore, it is critical to establish an analytical model that can properly consider the specific features of FRP material in evaluating the response of retrofitted concrete structures under blast loading. In this study, debonding failure analysis technique for FRP retrofitted concrete structure under blast loading is suggested by considering FRP material characteristics and debonding failure mechanisms as well as rate dependent failure mechanism based on a blast resisting design concept. In addition, blast simulation of FRP retrofitted RC panel is performed to validate the proposed model and analysis method. For validation of the proposed model and analysis method, the reported experimental results are compared with the debonding failure analysis results. From the comparative verification, it is confirmed that the proposed analytical model considering debonding failure of FRP is able to reasonably predict the behavior of FRP retrofitted concrete panel under blast loading.

  • The regulations of renal function and renin release are influenced by neural, humoral and physical factors. During the last decade, considerable progress has been made in the identification and characterization of these extrinsic renal control systems. Mechanisms intrinsic to the kidney are also important for renal function. These include the autoregulation of blood flow, and the local control of renin secretion. Fundamental questions regarding the mechanism of these intrinsic controls remain unanswered. Recently, endogenous renal adenosine has been claimed to influence the tubuloglomerular feedback control and renin release. Two subclasses of adenosine receptors $A_1{\;}and{\;}A_2$ have been described. The present experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of $N_6-cyclohexyladenosine$ $(CHA,{\;}A_1{\;}selective)$ and 5'-N-ethylcarbox-amide adenosine $(NECA,{\;}A_2{\;}selective)$ on the renal function and renin release in the unanesthetized rabbit. Intra-renal arterial infusion of NECA $(0.3{\sim}10.0n{\;}mole/min/rabbit)$ or CHA $(0.03{\sim}10.0n{\;}mole/min/rabbit)$ caused a prompt and dose-dependent decrease in urine volume, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), renal plasma flow (RPF), filtration fraction (FF), electrolyte excretion and free water clearance $(CH_2O)$, the effect being much more profound with CHA than with NECA. The NECA infusion resulted in a profound decrease of systemic blood pressure, but the CHA infusion did not. Both NECA and GHA infusions caused a prompt and dose-dependent decrease in renin secretion rate, again the effect being greater with CHA than with NEGA. These results suggest that both $A_1{\;}and{\;}A_2$ adenosine receptors may be involved in the intrinsic control of renal function and renin release, and that the $A_1$ receptors plays a more important role than the $A_2$ receptor in the regulation of renal fnction.

  • isolated word recognition using the Dynamic Time warping algorithm has shown good recognition rate on speaker dependent environment. But, practically, since the searching time of the dynamic Time Warping algorithm is rapidly increased as searching data is increased. it is hard to implement. In the context-dependent-short-query system such as educational children's workbook on the Web, the number of responses to the specific questions is limited. Therefore, the searching space for the answers can be reduced depending on the questions. In this paper, low cost implementation method using DTW for the Web has been proposed. To cover the weakness of DTW, the searching space is reduced by the context. the searching space, depends on the specific questions, is chosen from interest searchable candidates. In the real implementation, the proposed method show better performance of both time and recognition rate.
