  • In this paper, a turbidostat model with ratio-dependent growth rate and impulsive state feedback control is considered. We obtain sufficient conditions of the globally asymptotically stable of the system without impulsive state feedback control. We also obtain that the system with impulsive state feedback control has periodic solution of order one. Sufficient conditions for existence and stability of periodic solution of order one are given. In some cases, it is possible that the system exists periodic solution of order two. Our results show that the control measure is effective and reliable.

  • Numerical solutions for spin-up problem of a thermally stratified fluid in a cylinder with an insulating sidewall and time-dependent rotation rate are presented. Detailed results are given for aspect ratio of O(1), fixed Ekman number $10-^{4}$, Rossby number 0.05 and Prandtl number O(1). Angular velocity of a cylinder wall changes with following formula, $\Omega_f=\Omega_i+\Delta\Omega[1-\exp(-t/t_c)]$. Here, this $t_c$, value, which is very significant in present study, represents that how fast/slow the angular velocity of the cylinder wall reaches final angular velocity. The normalized azimuthal velocity and meridional flow plots for several tc value which cover ranges of the stratification parameter S(1 ~ 10) are presented. The role of viscous-diffusion and Coriolis term in present study is examined by diagnostic analysis of the azimuthal velocity equation.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the subacute toxicity of CJ-50002 (Vibrio Vaccine) in SPF Spraqur-Dawley (SD) rats. Vibrio vaccine was administered orally at a dose level of high (167mg/kg/day), medium (16.7mg/kg/day), and low (16.7mg/kg/day) once a day and repeated fro 4 weeks. Ten males and female rats were assigned to each group. After 4 week administration, no significant dose-dependent changes in body weight, water and food consumption rate or organ weight were noted dependent changes in body weight, water and food consumption rate or organ weight were noted among 4 groups. Urinanalysis, hematology, and serum chemistry, also fail to detect any dose-related change among 4 groups tested. During necropsy and histopathological examination, no specific toxicity related to treated material was found. The result of this study demonstrated that vibrio vaccine when administered orally for 4 weeks at a high dose of 167mg/kg/day, no dose-related toxicity was found in treated make and female rats.

  • In this thesis, we perform the experiment of speaker recognition by identifying vowels in the pronounciation of each speaker. In detail, we extract the vowels from the pronounciation of each speaker first. From it, we check the frequency energgy of 29 channels. After changing these into fuzzy values, we employ the fuzzy inference to recognize the speaker by text-dependent and text-independent methods. For this experiment, an algorithm of extracting vowels is developed, and newly introduced parameter is the frequency energy of the 29 channels computed from the extracted vowels. It shows the features of each speakers better than existing parameters. The advanced point of this paramter is to use the reference pattern only without the help of any codebook. As a rewult, test-dependent method showed about 95.5% rate of recognition, and text-independent method showed about 94.2% rate of recognition.

  • We have investigated the catalyst effect on the growth and structure of CNTs using thermal chemical vapor deposition. The respective growth rate of CNTs shows that the performance of catalysts is in the order of nickel (Ni)>cobalt (Co)>iron (Fe). The average diameter of CNTs follows the sequence of Fe, Co, and Ni catalysts. The structure of CNTs reveals almost same morphology regardless of catalyst but the crystallinity of CNTs is largely dependent on catalyst. The crystallinity of CNTs synthesized from Fe catalyst is higher than that from Ni or Co catalyst. We demonstrate that the growth rate, the diameter, and the crystallinity of CNTs can be manipulated by selecting the catalysts.

  • The ultrasonic pulse velocity test has a strong potential to be developed into a very useful and relatively inexpensive in-place test for assuring the quality of concrete placed in structure. The main problem in realizing this potential is that the relationship between compressive strength ad ultrasonic pulse velocity is uncertain and concrete is an inherently variable material. The objective of this study is to improve the reliability of in-place concrete strength predictions by ultrasonic pulse velocity method. Experimental cement content, s/a rate, and curing condition of concrete. Accuracy of the prediction expressed in empirical formula are examined by multiple regression analysis and linear regression analysis and practical equation for estimation the concrete strength are proposed. Multiple regression model uses water-cement ratio cement content s/a rate, and pulse velocity as dependent variables and the compressive strength as an independent variable. Also linear regression model is used to only pulse velocity as dependent variables. Comparing the results of the analysis the proposed equation expressed highest reliability than other previous proposed equations.

  • To extract apple pectins, apple pomace (AP) was extruded under 14 different conditions of screw speed (250-350 rpm), feed rate of 30-40 kg/hr, and 20-30% moisture content using twin-screw extrusion. Response surface methodology (RSM), based on three variables by three-level factorial design, was employed to investigate effects of screw speed, feed rate, and moisture on dependent variables of extrudates, soluble dietary fiber (SDF), yield of anhydrogalacturonic acid ($Y_{AGA}$) representing pectin, and intrinsic viscosity ([${\eta}$]). Second order models were used to generate three-dimensional response surface for dependent variables, and their coefficients of determination ($R^2$) ranged from 0.96 to 0.99. Moisture content showed highest effect on solubilization of AP.

  • Staling rates of cooked rice from Akibare (Japonica) and Milyang 23 (Indica) stored at $21^{\circ}C$ and $72^{\circ}C$ were analyzed using the expression ${\theta}={\exp}\;(-kt^n)$, where ${\theta}$ in the fraction of uncrystallized material remaining after time t. The values for the rate constant (k) indicated that the firming process for both rices was not dependent on the variety, but was dependent on the storage temperature. The Avrami exponent (n) was found to be unity at two temperatures, suggesting that the staling of cooked rice is characterized by instantaneous nucleation followed by rod-like growth of starch crystals.
