  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism of acupuncture for treating chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Methods: Based on domestic and international papers reported until October 2020, experimental papers on "chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy", "mechanism", and "acupuncture" were set up to identify the mechanisms of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy. A total of seven papers were selected and searched: one pilot paper for people and six experimental papers for rats. Results: In the pilot paper studied by Bao, T., the effect of EA was demonstrated but no significant results were produced for the mechanism. Moon et al. derived the association between EA and plasma 𝛽-endorphin in rat experimental studies on oxalilatin-induced cold hypersensitivity. Meng et al. found relevance to 𝜇, 𝛿, and 𝛿 opioid through EA stimulation in paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. Lee et al. studied the relationship between EA and muscarin and 5-HT in rat experiments on oxaliplatin-induced coldness, associated with 5-HT and EA, especially with 5-HT3 receptors. Choi et al. revealed the association of adrenaline and opioid acting on 𝛼2- and 𝛽 adrenaline receptors with EA in rat experiments on paclitaxel-induced neuralgia. In rat experiments on oxaliplatin-induced neuralgia reported by Lee, 𝛽-endorphin and encephalin were studied to be mediated by EA. Zhang, T. et al. revealed in the paclitaxel induced rat experiment that EA activates 5-HT. Conclusion: It is inferred that peripheral neuropathy caused by anticancer drugs can be reduced by activating the action of 5-HT, 𝛽-endorphin, and encephalin through the descending inhibitory pathways. cell differentiation, herbal medicine, Pongamia, stem cells

  • The present investigation has been undertaken to elucidate the functional role of ovarian steroids on the mechanism of oviduct differentiation during early embryonic development in rat. The activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALPase) was measured in the oviduct tissue under different steroids treatment regime on day 9 pregnancy. The ALPase activity of the oviduct of pseudopregnant rat was compared with that of normal pregnant rat. The results of day 9 pregnancy rat oviduct clearly demonstrated that $17{\beta}-estradiol$ and progesterone were effective in pseudopregnant rat oviduct. In the ovary intact group the ALPase activity was similar in both of normal and pseudopregnant oviduct, but in the $17{\beta}-estradiol$ treated group the ALPase activity in normal pregnancy was significantly higher than that in pseudopregnancy. The effect of estradiol on the normal pregnant rat oviduct was apparently found on day 3 and day 9 pregnancy. This study, therefore, clearly demonstrates that $17{\beta}-estradiol$ is much potent in oviduct tissue differentiation. It is suggested that absence of $17{\beta}-estradiol$ effect on pseudopregnant rat oviduct is due to there is no embryo passing througth the oviduct.

  • Recent studies clearly demonstrated that the novel expression of LH gene in the rat testis, and suggested the local action of the LH-like molecule. The present study was performed to analyze the expression of LH genes in the rat accessory reproductive organs. Expression of LH subunit genes in the rat uterus and epididymis was demonstrated by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and specific LH radioimmunoassay (RIA). The $LH_{beta}$ transcripts in these organs contained the published cDNA structure, the pituitary type exons 1-3, which encoded the entire $LH_{beta}$ polypeptide. Presence of the transcripts for the ${\alpha}$-subunit in the rat reproductive tissues were also confirmed by RT-PCR. In the LH RIA, significant levels of LH were detected in crude extracts from the rat ovary, uterus and epididymis. The competition curves with increasing amount of tissue extracts were parallel with those of standard peptide, indicating that the immunoreactive LH-like materials in these tissues are similar to authentic pituitary LH molecule. In rat epididymis, the highest amount of immunoreactive LH was detected in corpus area. Our findings demonstrated that the genes for LH subunits are expressed in the rat accessory reproductive organs, and suggested that these extrapituitary LH may act as a local regulator with auto and/or paracrine manner.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the histopathological change and adaptation process of the mandibular joint of the rat by muscle alteration. For this study, one hundred and twenty eight rats of 25 - and 60 - day old of age were used. Unilateral and bilateral detachment, with anterior positioning of the Masseter muscle, was performed under anesthesia. The animal was sacrified 10, 20, 50, 80 days postoperatively. This alteration in muscle function led to change in neuromuscular activity and demonstrated the adaptive nature of the condyle cartilage to functional demand. The results were as follows : 1. In the right muscle detached group, operated at 25 days of age, marked decrease on the chondroblastic zone was found in the condyle head on the right side of animals examined 10 days postoperatively. Comparing with the control group, no difference was found on the chondroblastic zone in the condylar head of animals examined 20, 50 and 80 days postoperatively. 2. In the bilateral muscle detached group, operated at 25 days of age, the chondroblastic zone was slightly decreased in the anterior parts of condylar head of animals examined 10 days postoperatively. 3. In the unilateral and bilateral muscle detached group, operated at 60 days of age, no significant change was found in the mandibular joint regardless of the post operative experimental periods. 4. Under Toluidine blue staining, slightly decreased metachromasia was found in the condyle head on the right side of unilateral experimental animals, operated at 25 days of age and examined 10 days postoperatively. 5. Under Masson's trichrome staining, increased metachromasia was found in the condyle head on the right side of unilateral experimental animals, operated at 25 days of age and examined 10 days postoperatively. In summary, the condyle of the rat could respond to changes in neuromuscular activity depend on the level of maturation of the tissue, because the endochondral bone formation of the condyle of the rat was almost ended within 3 months.

  • This study was performed to elucidate the patho-physiology of copper-poisoned rats after consecutive oral administrations of the copper sulfate. The changes in feed and water intake, gains of body weight, blood pictures and mineral compositions of several organs were observed to measure the effects of copper poisoning. 1. Compared with control group, every experimental group of which 1,000, 2,000, or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate was administered displayed a gradual decrease in feed intake in dose-dependent manners. 2. After 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate administration, water intake seemed to decrease in every experimental group in dose-dependent manners, but there was little statistical significance. 3. After 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate administration, body weight decreased in every experimental group in dose-dependent manners. 4. After 1000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate administration, the PLT values and numbers of RBC and WBC significantly increased after copper sulfate administration, but the values of Hb and PCV were lower than those of control group's. 5. After 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate administration, the levels of Cu, Mn, Fe, Pb and Zn in the liver were lowered, but the levels of Mn, Fe, Pb and Zn in the kidneys increased except Cu levels.

  • This experimental study was carried out to investigate on the safety of Nog-yong aqua-acupuncture solution in primary culture of adult rat hepatocytes. Primary culture of adult rat hepatocytes has been considered as a ideal model for toxicological studies because cultured hepatocytes maintained many liver-specific functions. In this research, we investigated the effects of Nog-yong aqua-aqupunture(1-10$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml) on cytotoxicites in primary culture of adult rat hepatocytes using LDH release assays. Hepatic glutathione level. glutathione-S-transferase activity, and albumin synthesis were not affected by treatment with Nog-yong aqua-aqupuntur alone. Nog-yong aqua-aqupuncoure solution(0.5-$10{\mu}\textrm{g}$/ml) on cytotoxicites in primary culture of adult rat hepatocytes using LDH release not significantly affected normal functional charaterists.

  • This experimental study was designed to investigate the effect of water extracts of Chukchunwhan on the urine metabolism in rat. The results are summarized as follows ; 1. Treatment with Chukchunwhan-extracts increased excreted-urine volume of rat at the first week, however markedly decreased the excreted-urine volume at 2nd week. 2. Chukchunwhan-extracts inhibited the high level of excreted-urinary protein from rat for two weeks. 3. Chukchunwhan-extracts did not affect on the excreted-urine components of rat except for urinary protein. The results suggest that water-extracts of Chukchunwhan can be applicable to the abnormal volume of urine without medical poisoning, which have been used in the all sort of urinary diseases.

  • The change of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) activity during regeneration of rat liver was studied. Cytosolic, mitochondrial and microsomal COMTs activities were estimated in regenerating rat livers over a period of ten days after $70\%$ (median and left lateral lobes) partial hepatectomy. The values of Km and Vmax in the hepatic enzymes were also measured. The activities of cytosolic and microsomal COMTs in regenerating rat liver after partial hepatectomy were found to be significantly increased between the second and the third day. Whereas the mitochondrial COMT activity did not change. The Vmax values of the cytosolic and microsomal COMTs in the regenerating rat liver were significantly increased at the second day after partial hepatectomy, however, the Km values of the above hepatic enzymes did not vary in all the experimental groups. Therefore, the results suggest that the biosynthesis of COMT was increased during the regeneration of rat liver.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the effect of honey on the sugar metabolism In Sprague-Dawley rats. All experimental rats were fed ad libitum, for seven weeks, 68% saccharide diet anti 10% or 20% honey from acacia, sumac and miscellaneous flower honey, respectively, and sucrose. The amount of glucose in whole blood was increased in all groups fed with honey except the group fed with 10% sumac honey solution. The amount of fructosamine in serum of rat taken diet with honey solution was increased in comparison with normal group, control group, sucrose group. The amount of fructosamine in serum of rat taken diet with honey solution was high in order of sumac honey > miscellaneous flower honey > acacia honey. The amount of lactate and pyruvate in whole blood of rat taken diet with sucrose group or honey group were decreased in comparison with the normal group and control group. The amount of $\beta$-hydroxybutyrate in serum of rat taken diet with sucrose or honey was increased in comparison with the normal group, control group.
