Mortality for oldest-old age (aged 80 or over) in Korea has never been studied mainly due to lack of data leaving its quality aside. The rapid aging recently occurring in Korea, which no other country has never experienced, must introduce a drastic change in the structure of future population pyramid, requring a careful investigation on mortality level, pattern, and trend for the oldest-old age in Korea. For mortality trend, we need to extend the past mortality data, which has provided only an open-ended age interval 80 or 85 years and over, to age-specific mortality up to 115 years old. A prerequisite for such an extension is constructing a Korean standard mortality by which one can figure out the mortality level and pattern of the oldest-old age. A Korean standard mortality is proposed by applying one relational model and eleven functions from which we select best models for each sex in terms of three measures of fits and three consistencies of mortality. Then we extend the mortality of the open-ended age intervals by providing a method to avoid the longitudinal consistency of mortality.
Mobility of elderly people is an important issue in Korea (ROK) where the aging process of the population is so rapid. This paper aims to examine the unique characteristics of elderly travel behavior in comparison to younger people and the changes in such characteristics given that Korea (ROK) has the world's fastest aging population. To this end, the paper analyzes two recent large scale survey data sets, each including more than a quarter of a million individuals' travel diaries in metropolitan Seoul, collected in 2002 and 2006, respectively. The analysis found that elderly travel differs greatly from younger people's in many aspects, and the mobility of the elderly, particularly those aged 65 to 69, has increased a great deal. Recent reforms of public transportation systems in the city could contribute to the increase in elderly mobility.
Rapid social change affects residential environments and this in turn creates new stimuli to which people have to adapt. These stimuli have been seen to increase stress levels. Therefore, dwellers in these environments try to reduce stress through various methods. The purpose of this paper is to: 1) identify the general trends of coping styles about residential environmental stress, 2) analyze the differences in socio-demographic characteristics and how the physical characteristics of buildings affect stress, find out how personal backgrounds affect stress levels and the ability to get rid of environmental-related stress. The subjects in this study consisted of people living in multi-family housing in Gwangju. The city is divided into 5 districts and used quota sampling. 324 housewives were surveyed from the households by self-administered questionnaires. The survey was conducted in December, 2006, after the questionnaire was revised based on the results of preliminary survey. After all the questionnaires were collected, the data was coded and analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 program. This study confirmed that the manner in which those in multi-family housing coped with stress. Especially, we need a policy which seriously considers residents who are of low social-economic standing. As well as being exposed to residential environmental stress, they also have no means to deal with it. The age of a building had a strong impact on coping styles about residential environmental stress. We have to make special studies about the adaptive reuse of buildings for the reduction of residential environmental stress and to greatly improve coping styles. In conclusion, it emphasized the importance of education, information, and economic aid. Reasonable housing management would surely lead to a rise in residential satisfaction and the promotion of residential welfare.

In the last decade, various situations were simulated through virtual environment due to rapid improvement of computer capability and technology. Transportation engineering also has adopted the virtual environment facility in order to identify drivers behaviour under various circumstances. This study aims to evaluate driver reactions to the introduction of new ITS interventions at railway crossings (RLX) in driving simulator. Three ITS safety devices were used to figure out how drivers reacted to them. In addition, a survey was conducted to find participants' work load and acceptance of the technology. The ultimate purpose of this paper is to evaluate ITS safety devices in various aspects. Each participant made 3 runs (2 baselines, 1 ITS randomly) for approximately 20 minutes each. The participants answered that current railway crossings did not look safe prior to experiment. They responded that the use of ITS technologies were easy and the technologies were more effective on passive railway crossings.

This study aims to conduct research into the property of costumeplay that has been established with our unique characteristics despite the critics from the existing generation, and the cospre style preferred by costumeplayers. The research methods include literature study, existing research, and a survey targeting costumeplayers who make costumes upon order or borrow costumes on websites. The findings are as follows. 1. From the results of the survey, 77% of the participants in the costumeplay were secondary school students, 16% were college students, and 5% were primary school students. 2. The distribution of the residences of the costumeplayers was found to be mostly centered in two areas including Seoul/Gyeonggi and Gyeongsang/Busan, which were 39% and 37% each. This is probably because Seoul Comic and Busan Comic were regularly taking place, and these are relatively economically affluent areas and locations where the rapid exchange of Japanese culture occurs. 3. For the cospre style preferred by costumeplayers, 57% of respondents preferred costumes for reviving characters, 18% of them for fan-cospre and 14% of them for reviving a character and creating new characters. Costumeplayers preferred cospre costumes for reviving characters rather than for creating new characters. 4. Most respondents preferred a character-oriented design, posting 31.9%. Next, 17.5% of them selected the Lolita look This is probably because the Lolita look which is much favored in the latest fashion trends affects them, and the rest of the respondents preferred a fantasy/SF group, visual, uniform, and maid look, in order. 5. For costs required for costumeplay for 1 time, 39% of respondents spent about KRW $100,000{\sim}150,000$, and 24% of them about KRW $150,000{\sim}200,000$. However, for buying accessories or small items, over 50% of them spent KRW $30,000{\sim}40,000$.

Clock or time synchronization protocol is one of the crucial factors that could determine the quality of the communication. With the rapid development of the network technology, more robust clock synchronization algorithm is required. IEEE 1588 is one of the possible solutions for a robust clock synchronization algorithm; however, there are still some challenges that need to be concerned in IEEE 1588 in term of reducing and stabilizing the PDV value. This survey paper shows several solutions that could improve the performance of IEEE 1588, including modifying the PTP message transmission, optimizing PTP method, filtering techniques, and using the hardware timestamp instead of application layer timestamp, and so on. Despite the improvement that is created with these techniques, the clock synchronization algorithm is still an open issue in the network communication.
PURPOSES: Design of approach roads of rest areas in highway has many drawbacks such as geometric design elements. There has been traffic accidents occured in these approach roads of rest areas. Thus, design criteria is required in order to protect accidents from being occurred. In case of Korea, geometric structure design criteria of entry facilities, such as toll-gate, interchange, junction etc was established. However there are no presence in a detailed standards for geometric structure of the rest area which affiliated road facilities. METHODS: In this study, analytic on accidents was carried out in regards to the entry of geometric structure of resting areas by utilizing a sight survey and an investigation research of traffic accidents. The survey was targeting 135 general service areas. Collisions with physical channelization and safety facilities occurred due to speeding, rapid entry, and etc at the entrance nose section. At the entrance connector roads, accidents caused by speeding, negligence, over-operation of handle of drivers were main reason of accidents. Discriminant analysis were conducted about geometric elements to distinguish influencing factors for traffic accidents. the lengths and access angles of the entrance connector roads were regarded as to have the high relation with traffic accidents. RESULTS: After classifying the design section of resting areas' entry as well as derive design elements on each section, a speed measurement by targeting entry of rest areas and car behavior surveys were performed, then each element's minimum standard was derived through the analyses. According to the speeds at the starting/end point of entrance connector road, the range of the junction setting angle of the entrance connector road is defined as $12^{\circ}{\sim}17^{\circ}$ and the connector length model was suggested. CONCLUSIONS: Suggest improvement plans for existing rest areas that can be applied realistically. This should be corresponded to the standards of entry and exit of developed rest areas.
Innovation fuels organizations evolving them to withstand rapid changes in markets and challenges from competition. While diversified concepts of innovation are examined, a generic framework for managing organizational innovation is established to portray the notion in a methodical approach. Substantiation of the determinants for organizational innovation is carried out in order to examine the framework against the practical situation. Subsequently, expectations and actual accomplishments of the determinants for organizational innovation from the industry are determined so as to understand the industrial view towards the framework. This paper summarizes the empirical findings of a survey of organizational innovation with a sample of 208 electronic and electrical manufacturing companies in the Greater Pearl River Delta (GPRD), China. On one hand, the survey findings confirm the readiness of the generic framework from the practical perspective of the industry. On the other hand, rankings are obtained for the expected importance and company accomplishment of the determinants for organizational innovation, namely in the areas of management leadership and commitment, employee capability and attitude and strategy development for innovation. The improvement area is also verified by the shortcomings of the expectation in comparison to the company accomplishment in each determinant. Meanwhile, it is believed that a directional attitude towards the determinants can facilitate the accomplishment of the determinants of organizational innovation. Further results will be generated from a more in-depth analysis of variables. The confirmed framework will be further developed into an assessment system for organizational innovation with the support of best practices in each determinant.

Objectives : The changing population age structure and rapidly increasing medical costs make providing high-quality, effective medical care for the elderly a challenge. This study assessed the satisfaction with medical care in terms of comprehensiveness, general satisfaction, and accessibility among community-dwelling Korean elders. Methods : Data were obtained from a nationwide representative sample of the older adults(aged 65 years old or older) living in the community, who participated in a 2006 telephone survey conducted using random digit dialing(n=881). General satisfaction, comprehensiveness and accessibility were measured using a 10-item satisfaction survey questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was used to assess the distribution of each of three components of subjective satisfaction. Analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) was used to examine the association of each of the three components with socioeconomic variables. Results : Comprehensiveness and general satisfaction were low among older people with a high socioeconomic status. Accessibility was evaluated as low among older people of low socioeconomic status, those living in rural areas and those who were medical aid beneficiaries. Conclusions : Urgent interventions should be considered in order to improve accessibility to medical care for elders of low socioeconomic status and those living in rural communities. Given the rapid aging of the population, we need to develop a monitoring system to improve the quality of geriatric care.

Background: In postmenopausal women, there is rapid bone loss due to estrogen depletion. In women, reproductive factors such as age at menarche, breastfeeding, and parity are considered risk factors of osteoporosis. Many reports suggest that obesity is associated with a reduced risk of osteoporosis. This nationwide, population-based study aims to identify the association between maternal age and osteoporosis risk in postmenopausal women of different obesity classifications. Methods: We assessed data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010-2012. The study included 1,328 postmenopausal women, after excluding women with missing data for reproductive history among 4,546 postmenopausal women in the survey. Multivariate regression was used to identify the association between childbirth age and postmenopausal bone mineral density after adjustments for confounding factors. Results: The prevalence of postmenopausal osteoporosis was 35.24% (n = 468). After dividing the subjects into obese and non-obese groups based on body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, there were significant differences between non-osteoporosis and osteoporosis groups with regard to age at first childbirth, age at last childbirth, and parity in the BMI-based general obesity group. The prevalence of osteoporosis was highest in women older than 35 years old at last childbirth. The prevalence of osteoporosis was also greater in women with parity ${\geq}4$ compared to those with lower parity levels. Conclusion: Postmenopausal women of older age at last childbirth and higher parity were at increased risk of osteoporosis in the BMI-based non-general obesity group.
