  • A recently recognized connective tissue disorder, Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a genetic aortic aneurysm syndrome caused by mutations in the transforming growth factor-receptor type I or II gene (TGFBR1 or TGFBR2). They have distinctive phenotypic abnormalities including widely spaced eyes (hypertelorism), bifid uvula or cleft palate, and arterial tortuosity with aortic aneurysm or dissection throughout the arterial tree. LDS is characterized by aggressive and rapid progression of aortic aneurysm. Therefore, the patients with distinct phenotype, marked aortic dilatation and aneurysm at early age should be suspected to be affected by LDS and rapid TGFBR gene analysis should be done. We report one child diagnosed as LDS due to typical phenotypes and two novel missense mutations of the TGFBR2 gene (c.1526G>T and c.1528A>T).

  • The early landmark discoveries in cancer metabolism research have uncovered metabolic processes that support rapid proliferation, such as aerobic glycolysis (Warburg effect), glutaminolysis, and increased nucleotide biosynthesis. However, there are limitations to the effectiveness of specifically targeting the metabolic processes which support rapid proliferation. First, as other normal proliferative tissues also share similar metabolic features, they may also be affected by such treatments. Secondly, targeting proliferative metabolism may only target the highly proliferating "bulk tumor" cells and not the slowergrowing, clinically relevant cancer stem cell subpopulations which may be required for an effective cure. An emerging body of research indicates that altered metabolism plays key roles in supporting proliferation-independent functions of cancer such as cell survival within the ischemic and acidic tumor microenvironment, immune system evasion, and maintenance of the cancer stem cell state. As these aspects of cancer cell metabolism are critical for tumor maintenance yet are less likely to be relevant in normal cells, they represent attractive targets for cancer therapy.

  • A rapid and mass propagation method for multiple shoots and plant regeneration using bulb scales of Muscari comosum var. plumosum were developed. In vitro different parts of bulb scale as explants were cultured on 11 kinds of MS (1962) media supplemented with various plant growth regulators to induce shoot and callus. A combination of 2.0 mg/L 6-BA and 2.0 mg/L IBA on MS medium was the most favorable and induced the highest production (80%) of shoot formation after 30 days. We also found that the middle part of bulb scale was the best for mass propagation of Muscari comosum var. plumosum of which production could reach 64.4%.

  • An expreiment with non-nodulating alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) plants was designed to investigate the changes in protein contents and the activities of proteolytic enzymes during a regrowth period of 24 d. Shoot removal caused a depression of root growth and significantly reduced protein contents in roots. An initial decline of root proteins for the first 10 d was followed by a rapid recovery from d 11 to 24. The major increase of regrowing shoot weight occurred also from d 11. The activities of aminopeptidase and endoprotease slightly decreased in regrowing leaves, while protein contents remains stable after shoot removal. Roots exhibited source behaviour with a rapid increase of endoprotease activities for the first 10 d of regrowth; about a 370% increase over the initial level was observed. Increase in endoprotease activity in roots coincided with the time of protein remobilization after shoot removal, indicating the important role of endoproteases in protein degradation.

  • Traditional Chinese cuisine, which is highly evaluated with respect of taste and techniques, is built based on a sound healthy philosophy and distinct dietary culture, with emphasis on the unity of human beings and nature. The traditional cuisine utilized food materials according to the physical status and seasons, which is still a valuable principle in the modem diet. According to relevant research, the nutrient retention in Chinese cooking is acceptable. However, following the rapid growth of domestic economy, the Chinese diet is in danger of losing its original merits, especially when eating out. The excessive desire for food enjoyment leads to a rapid increase in the prevalence of obesity and chronic disease. It is a critical point to review the characteristic of traditional Chinese cuisine and lead the trend to a healthy direction.

  • Modern society has achieved rapid growth in economy and materials whereas it caused such problems as municipal extension and high density of population, Due to rapid change of social environment, it became more complicated and multifarious than ever it before. Helping the people all kinds of routine affairs police box is giving a negative image to the citizens, for its environment doesn't have got rid of its old fashion . It's being an unharmonious factor to its surroundings, a solution is needed. So, this study is focused on recognizing the change of value system with the flow of time, planning a new image of police box for the change and in consequence recovering the trustworthy between people and the nation. For this , by grasping the characteristics of each space and through space-dividing and design corresponding to it, the plan is provided to make a pleasant interior environment of police box and to make it a symbol of local society. As a result of this study, we will have the police box not only as an office providing the locals with security and service but also as eyes of the country which watches the municipal environment.

  • The rapid growth of camera technology can provide various types of information which was not previously provided. Furthermore, IP camera which has rapid data transfer rate and high resolution particularly provide a lot of useful functions beyond the existing simple surveillance capabilities. We are developing Real-Time Face Recognition Access Control System based on the camera technology, and improvement of face detection and recognition algorithms are vitally needed to realize that system. In this paper, we proposes a method to improve the computing speed and detection rate by adding new features to the existing Viola-Jones detection algorithm.

  • An experimental technique was developed to determine the strain-rate in a tensile specimen. Then one can calculate the transient isothermal elongational viscosity. Both shear and elongational viscosities were measured to study the effect of shear and elongational fields on the flow properties. The comparison between these viscosities shows that the onset of rapid viscosity growth as crystallization solidification proceeds occurs at about the same value of time at very small deformation rates (0.0028 and 0.0047 $s^{-1}$). The comparison of these measured viscosities as functions of shear and elongational Hencky strains also reveals that the onset of rapid viscosity growths starts at critical Hencky strain values. The behaviour of steady shear viscosity as function of temperature sweep was also explored at three different low shear rates. Finally, the influence of changing oscillatory frequencies and strain rates was also investigated.

  • Sweet potato is a crop vegetatively propagated by vine cuttings, an ineffective method for maintaining pathogene-free stock plants. As an alternative method, single-node cultures of virus-free plantlets derived from apical meristem in sweet potato (cv. Yulmi) was examined. Effective pH range, sugar concentration and nodal order were investigated to establish an in vitro mass propagation system with high quality virus-free stock plantlets to farmhouse. Although the plantlets grew at wide range of pH, the most effective pH of the medium was 4.8 in single-node cultures. High sugar concentration of 60∼80 g/L resulted in increased growth response in shoot length, root length, number of node, leaf area and fresh and dry weight of shoot and root, whereas reducing sugar contents below 6% was showed reduced growth response. The first node including meristem tip was the best for the rapid growth of plantlets and the other nodes also showed a very similar growth response. Uniform plantlet can be obtained massively at the same time by culture of single node except for the first node including meristem tip. In conclusion, the most effective pH range and sugar concentration of medium for the growth of plantlets via single-node cultures was 4.8, 60∼80 g/L respectively. The first node was the best for the rapid propagation of plantlets in nodal order.
