Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is added to gasoline to enhance the octane number of gasoline, tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) is major degradation intermediate of MTBE in environment, and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) are also major constituents of gasoline. In this study, a simplified headspace analysis method was adapted for simultaneous determination of MTBE, TBA and BTEX in ground water samples. The sample 5.0 mL and 2 g NaCl were placed in a 10 mL vial and the solution was spiked with fluorobenzene as an internal standard and sealed with a cap. The vial was placed in a heating block at 85 $^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The detection limits of the assay were 0.01 ${\mu}$g/L for MTBE and BTEX, and 0.02 ${\mu}$g/L for TBA. The method was used to analyze 110 ground water samples from various regions in Korea, and to survey the their background concentration in ground water in Korea. The samples revealed MTBE concentrations in the range of 0.01 - 0.45 ${\mu}$g/L (detection frequency of 57.3%), TBA concentrations in the range of 0.02 - 0.08 ${\mu}$g/L (detection frequency of 5.5%), and total BTEX concentrations in the range of 0.01 - 2.09 ${\mu}$g/L (detection frequency of 87.3%). The developed method may be used when simultaneously determining the amount of MTBE, TBA and BTEX in water.

Development of a long-range artillery intercept system to counter the threat of enemy long-range artillery is in progress. This intercept system is a complex combination of several components. In addition, the ability to engage simultaneously is emphasized due to the characteristic of having to respond to numerous enemy bullets. In this study, the performance according to the arrangement of the detection asset and missile launchers, which are key components of the system, is analyzed. A simulation experiment was performed assuming the enemy attack at various azimuth and launch angles. As a result of the analysis, the radar seems to provide sufficient detection capability in any situation, but in the case of the launcher, the effect of the enemy's launch angle can be critical. It is recommended to place both radar and launchers behind the protection target.
Detection of an underwater target by acoustic wave raises various difficulties due to unpredictable noise interference which originates from clutter, reverberation, and variations of medium characteristics with time and location. The SNR and the range resolution of conventional SONAR systems using a matched filter are generally poor, since the latter is optimum only in the additive white noise case. Furthermore, it cannot compensate for variations of the detection level which are responsible for the resultant detection errors. In this paper, the unpredictable interferences are compensated for by using an adaptive filter. It recursively estimates the channel impulse response based on the received echo signal. In the low noise environments, the estimated impulse response is close to the true one, providing a good range resolution, and a matched filter is used subsequently for the purpose of detection. It is shown through computer simulation that good performance can be achieved via the two steps of filtering. Also, the detection level remains unchanged without any additional provisions. Finally, we present the characteristics of the employed adaptive filter parameters.

A short-range underwater target detection and identification techniques using mid- and high-frequency bands have been highly developed. However, nowadays the long-range detection using the low-frequency band is requested and one of the most challengeable issues. The waveform inversion technique is widely used and the hottest technology in both academia and industry of the seismic exploration. It is based on the numerical analysis tool, and could construct more than a few kilometers of the subsurface structures and model-parameters such as P-wave velocity using a low-frequency band. By applying this technique to the underwater acoustic circumstance, firstly application of underwater target detection is verified. Furthermore, subsurface structures and it's parameters of the war-field are well reconstructed. We can confirm that this technique greatly reduces the false-alarm rate for the underwater targets because it could accurately reproduce both the shape and the model-parameters at the same time.

It is obvious that understanding the effects of shallow water environment of Korea is very important to guarantee the optimal performance of active sonar such as monostatic and bistatic sonar. For this reason, in this paper, we analyzed the detection performance characteristics for various depth deployments of sonar in summer, winter and water temperature inversion environments, which environments are frequently observed in shallow water of Korea such as the Yellow sea. To analyze only effects of water temperature structures on target detection performance, we applied range independent conditions for bottom, sea surface and water temperature characteristics. To understand the characteristics of detection performance, we conducted transmission loss and signal excess modeling. From the results, we were able to confirm the characteristics of detection performance of active sonar. In addition, we verified that operation depth of transmitter and receiver affects the detection performance. Especially in the water temperature inversion environment, it was confirmed that the shadow zone could be minimized and the detection range could be increased through bistatic operation.

Radar detection range is decreased with an increase in the noise levels and detection thresholds in adaptive CFAR of a radar signal processor to the weather clutter reflection signal in the rain. When a high-velocity plot is generated in weather clutter, what are detected are not targets but false plots. Detection opportunity is reduced by radar time resource consumption from additional confirmations regarding the false plots. In this paper, the received signals are saved using a radar-received signal storage device. Based on the analysis of the received signals from weather clutter, the influence of the rainfall reflection has been mitigated by front-end attenuation of the signal processor. The improvement in the detection performance is verified through received signal and simulation results.
In this paper we analyzed the localization error of near-field detection algorithm in the sea. The near-field detection algorithms using triangulation and wavefront curvature basically assume a signal in two dimension of bearing and range. But the assumption causes localization error because there is three dimension of bearing, range, and depth in the sea. Even through three dimensional effect is considered, the localization error is occurred if multipath propagation in the sea is ignored. To analyze the localization error in the sea, we simulate the near-field localization using acoustic propagation model and focused beamforming considering wavefront curvature. The simulation results indicate that localization error always occurs in the sea and the error varied with sound velocity profile, water depth, bottom slope, source range, etc.

This paper established the range of the wavelength of traffic lights to detection the color of traffic lights and the color component segmentation with the range of the wavelength. Development of traffic light automatic discrimination system is consists of the color detection and the traffic lights recognition. In this thesis, it established the range of the wavelength of traffic lights to detection the color of traffic lights and the color segmentation with the range of the wavelength. By the segmentation, the traffic light colors(red, orange and green) can be detected and the background is changed into gray image. Next, we proposed the algorithm which can detect the area of traffic lights in the various surroundings with the wavelet transformation algorithm. Also, we proposed traffic lights recognition algorithm using between the edge operator and the Hausdorff distance algorithm based on CBIR(Content-based Image retrieval). Therefore, the proposed algorithm is more superior to the conventional algorithm by experimenting with the illumination including the traffic lights and the backgrounds with various images.
A lane detection based on a road model or feature all need correct acquirement of information on the lane in a image, It is inefficient to implement a lane detection algorithm through the full range of a image when being applied to a real road in real time because of the calculating time. This paper defines two searching range of detecting lane in a road, First is searching mode that is searching the lane without any prior information of a road, Second is recognition mode, which is able to reduce the size and change the position of a searching range by predicting the position of a lane through the acquired information in a previous frame. It is allow to extract accurately and efficiently the edge candidates points of a lane as not conducting an unnecessary searching. By means of removing the perspective effect of the edge candidate points which are acquired by using the inverse perspective transformation, we transform the edge candidate information in the Image Coordinate System(ICS) into the plane-view image in the World Coordinate System(WCS). We define linear approximation filter and remove the fault edge candidate points by using it This paper aims to approximate more correctly the lane of an actual road by applying the least-mean square method with the fault-removed edge information for curve fitting.
