  • In general, railway system uses wheels so detecting speed by tachometer. However, LRT(Light Rail Transits) stands out recently as alternatives transportation, and besides of that Maglev trains are emerged as an alternative means of transportation. Maglev operates above certain heights caused inability of the measurement by tachometer which used to detect speed of wheels. Velocity Detection Signal Device of Train Control System applied in "Train Control System Project of Pilot Line Construction for Urban MAGLEV Train" which is prepared ahead of opening in 2013. This paper, therefore, explains the function and operation principal of Velocity Detection Signal Device, and suggests installation method of velocity detection loop installed around the track.

  • Accurate and reliable tracking of train is essential for a train control system. The fixed block system which utilizes the track circuit has been used widely for detecting train position. As an alternative, the moving block system has the advantage over the fixed block system since it enables shorter headway and easier maintenance. This paper presents a new technique for the train tracking system which uses radio signal for the train position detection. The proposed algorithm uses the phase difference of arrival of radio signal for the detection of train position. Experimental verification of the algorithm is presented in the paper.

A Study on Development of Interlocking Inspection System for Electronic Interlocking System (전자연동장치의 연동검사시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of interlocking system was to prevent the route for a train being set up and its protecting signal cleared if there was already another, conflicting route set up and the protecting signal for that route cleared. This paper proposed Interlocking Inspection System(IIS) consisting of interlocking simulator and field simulator to operate interlocking test of computer based Electronic Interlocking System(EIS) in this paper. Interlocking simulator consists of Design Edit System(DES), Logical Database Management Tool(LDMT) and real-time confirming system, field simulator is a equipment to simulate a control object of EIS and constitutes configuration operated in 19 inch standard rack. As a result of test to prove capacity of this IIS, the efficiency was shown as excellent. Therefore by using inspection system, we obtain every advantages. It has the functions for test data generation and automatic test execution based on personal computer. Time and cost for test work can be reduced more efficiently by using this developed inspection system

  • The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the corridor of Eurasia High-Speed Railway Network from the governmental view of the Republic of Korea, whose High-Speed Train has been recently operated. The country is also expected to figure out the changes of Eurasia infrastructure system under the assumption that Trans-Korean Railway is connected to the Continent. As a result of research, the corridor connecting the TKR to TSR seems to be more attractive to the Republic of Korea than that of the TKR-TCR under the current economic and operational environments. However, even in a case, the railway linkage through the TSR between Europe and Asia should remain a supplementary means of the sea transportation route. Lastly, TSR may need a program of structural reforms, in order to continuously provide preferable services like the Pan-European Transport Network (PETN) which is currently initiated by the European Union, such as to improve outdated infrastructure (railway, bridges, signal systems, etc.), to simplify and to standardize the process of custom clearance and internal tariffs, and ultimately to construct a uniform management system for the corridor linking the TKR to TSR.

  • The automatic/driverless operation which are great important techniques in metro railway are required to increase higher safety, greater reliability, and transport capacity. To satisfy such demands, we must have the system design and testing technique for the railway system operation. These techniques are related to the onboard train control and communication systems which include TCMS(Train Control and Monitoring System), ATO(Automatic Train Operation), ATC(Automatic Train Control), and TWC(Train to Wayside Communication). These sub-systems must be interfacing with not only each others but also the signal system on the ground. We tested the train control system on Test line that has been developed on the basis of the standardized type EMU for korea railway systems. This test line which is located in Sangju, have been constructed for testing 7 & 8 line of Seoul Metro railway.

  • In this paper, an effect on power conversion unit in high-speed railway vehicle by loss of contact between a catenary system and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed railway vehicle are investigated. One of the most important needs accompanied by increasing the speed of high-speed railway vehicle is reduced that arc phenomenon by loss of contact brings out EMI. in case of high-speed railway vehicle using electrical power, as comparison with diesel rolling stock, PLD(Power Line Disturbance) such as harmonic, transient voltage and current, EMI, dummy signal injection etc usually occur. To analysis the effect on loss of contact, it is necessary electrical modeling system between the contact line and the pantograph according to the loss of contact. Therefore analytical model of a contact line and a pantograph is constructed to simulate the behaviour of loss of contact. The reliability of the modeling system is verified by simulation implementation on kinds of loss of contact.

  • The new technology with Wireless LAN (WLAN) is implemented to the railway system, which is attached importance to safety and reliability. Railway control system based on WLAN that is called CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) is being developed by the advanced nations in this field and The system is applied to a new train line and a renovation for outworn equipment. The CBTC system has many merits about increase of capacity, reduction of headway and cost reduction etc.. Therefore, that is come into spotlight to the advanced railway company and the companies have being developed the system. So, we have developed the CBTC system for standardization and localization of the railway signal system.

  • The railway human reliability analysis (R-HRA) plays a role of identifying and assessing human failure events in the framework of the probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) of the railway systems. This paper reviews three existing HRA methods including the K-HRA (THERP/ASEP-based) method, the HEART method, the RSSB-HRA method, and introduces a case study that was performed to select an appropriate method for a railway risk assessment. The case is the signal passed at danger (SPAD) events, which are caused from a variety of factors. From the case study, the strengths and limitations of each method were derived and compared with each other from the viewpoint of the applicability to the railway industry.

The Integrity Evaluation of weld zone in railway rails Using Neural Network (신경회로망을 이용한 철도레일 용접부의 건전성평가)

  • This study proposes the neural network simulator for the integrity evaluation of weld zone in railway rails. For these purposes, the ultrasonic signals for defects(crack) of weld zone in frames are acquired in the type of time series data and echo strength. The detection of the natural defects in railway truck is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. And then their applications evaluated feature extraction based on the time-frequency-attractor domain(peak to peak, rise time, rise slope, fall time, fall slope, pulse duration, power spectrum, and bandwidth) and attractor characteristics (fractal dimension and attractor quadrant) etc. The constructed neural network simulator agrees fairly well with the measured results of test block(defect location, beam propagation distance, echo strength, etc). The Proposed neural network simulator in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of weld zone in railway rails.

Common safety H/W platform and Establishing safety S/W development environment for Ground railway signal systems (철도용 지상신호설비를 위한 공통 안전 H/W 플랫폼 및 안전 S/W 개발 환경 구축(사례))

  • When it essentially designs and develops the Railway Signal System H/W and S/W, It requires base to build an environment which the safety of the complete system can be certified objectively. It is not rational choice to progress the safety certification of each of the subsystems to ensure reliability from an economic point of view. Furthermore, Even though H/W and S/W already certificated the safety, In case of changing subsystem to comprise relevant system, The safety certification of its parts newly must proceed. This study to solve these problems covers safety H/W platform which is commonly applicable to composition plan at Ground railway signaling systems such as CBTC, ETCS, CBI and safety-based modeling approach with S/W development tools (SCADE) and certificated O/S (Pike) to build the development environment. In addition, When it designs and develops safety S/W, This study explains structure to separate the data section which for logical operations and logical operations itself and provides guideline to support the certification through minimizing changes to the software.
