A Study on Certification Procedure of Railway Supplies (철도용품의 품질인증을 위한 절차 고찰)

  • Under the necessity certification of railway supplies, an applicant should check the procedure of urban railway law and the new railway safety law. Currently, the Korean railway standards (KRS), formerly managed by Korea Railroad, have been managed by the Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation. According to Korean railway safety law and its ordinances, which were committed to Korea Railroad Research Institute. It were established for the guarantee of railway safety, the management of KRS including enactment and revision of technical standards for railway vehicle and components. In this investigation, the detailed management procedure will be introduced for the effective management of Certification of Railway Supplies.

An improved algorithm in railway truss bridge optimization under stress, displacement and buckling constraints imposed on moving load

  • Railway truss bridges are amongst the essential structures in railway transportation. Minimization of the construction and maintenance costs of these trusses can effectively reduce investments in railway industries. In case of railway bridges, due to high ratio of the live load to the dead load, the moving load has considerable influence on the bridge dynamics. In this paper, optimization of the railway truss bridges under moving load is taken into consideration. The appropriate algorithm namely Hyper-sphere algorithm is used for this multifaceted problem. Through optimization the efficiency of the method successfully raised about 5 percent, compared with similar algorithms. The proposed optimization carried out on several typical railway trusses. The influences of buckling, deformation constraints, and the optimum height of each type of truss, assessed using a simple approximation method.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a R-PLM (Railway BIM-based Product Lifecycle Management) technology. The railway engineering productivity can be maximized if the railway product is created using the object modeling method and the railway lifecycle process is managed effectively. Recently, technology known as BIM and PLM was applied to the construction industry to improve the productivity. To define the R-PLM functions, the expert interview and a practitioner interview were conducted to identify the expected outcome and obstacles to R-PLM technology. As a result, the differences between the occupation and the priority of those were derived. Finally, R-PLM technology development consideration was suggested based on the interview results.

Applications of Air-Foamed Stabilized Soil as Potential Subgrade Material of Railway Track

  • In these days, use of proper soils for construction materials become more limited, but wasted soils are abundant; therefore, the method which can use wasted soil such as soft clay has been investigated. Air-foamed stabilized soil has been used widely, but never been used as a subgrade material. The aim of this study is to verify the use of air-foamed stabilized soil as the subgrade construction material. Several wasted soils such as soft clay was selected to make air-foamed stabilized soil mixtures. The air-foamed stabilized mixture design was conducted to find the optimum quantity of stabilizing agent (cement) and air-foamed, and the effect of cement quantity and air-foamed quantity on strength of air-foamed stabilized soil mixtures base on the test results of unconfined compression test was investigated. As the quantity of cement is increased, the strength is increased, but the quantity of air-foamed is increased and the strength is decreased. Elastic moduli based on unconfined compression strength were obtained to use as subgrade of railway track design.

  • Recently remote sensing technology is applied for construction projects planning and design areas by use of high resolution satellite images according to engineering application technology in the various experimental tasks. In this study, It was applied for optimum route selection methods and basic design by comparing to present railway and new expand dual railway route on the new construction plan path of 20 km at national railway lines, and then showed 3-dimensional images and fly simulation images to possibility for various application as low cost and short time compare to airplane and helicopters survey methods. As a results of its applied, It gained the results not only improvement of present methods but also real various application possibilities.

  • This paper is about the examination and selection of the special method applied to the railway tunnel which will lie under the road. Moreover, the road was constructed on the weak ground. Eventually, we select DSM, considering geological condition, stability during construction of the railway tunnel, and economic efficiency. The 3D-analysis, performed with PENTAGON-3D and MIDAS CIVIL-3D, shows that allowable standards are all satisfied. In the design of the railroad tunnel under the road at low depth, this paper will give useful data for the selection of the tunneling method.

  • The report of the intergovernment panel on climate change(IPCC) concluded that the global warning due to Green-house Gas(GHGs) will be accelerated in the 21th century. The railroad construction sector consumes a great deal of natural resources and energy in construction. maintenance, and demolition stage. In order to establish and perform reducing plan of GHGs of railway track system for effective corresponding the Climate Change Agreement, the evaluation method of the lifecycle CO2 emission if needed. In this research, it was investigates that the research trend for the LCCO2 and the method to estimate the lifecycle carbon dioxide emission amount of the railway track system as quantitative.

  • Light rail transit system has many characteristics of better accessibility, frequency service, low construction cost, reduced air pollution and medium-capacity public transport etc. Light rail transit system as a urban transportation system has been growing worldwide since the late 20th century. More than 300 cities around the world have light railway systems. Many medium-size cities in domestic site is planning the construction of light railway. This paper describes the development strategies for the light rail transit industry.

  • The theory of risk is applied frequently in analysis of railway accidents. The aim of risk analysis is to search potential causes and contribution factors of accidents by checking the total system of construction field. This paper analyze a pattern and a cause of accident occupied in construction field, calculate risk index considering accident frequency and severity, and then provide the relative risk assessment. Based on this, this paper will provide the methodology of qualitative risk assessment guiding to reach a consistency of risk index with risk assessment.
