This study presents a simulation of the traction return current based on $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system in order to determine the impedance bond intensity of impulse type track circuit on the electrified Gyeongbu line. The results of the simulation enables us to measure the precise intensity of catenary current that returns to the substation through KTX (Korean Train Express) operated by $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system with common earth network. The combination of $2{\times}25kV$ and common earth network established on the electrified Gyeongbu line for the first time in Korea. We show that the relationships among the traction return current, earth current, and catenary current, and catenary current can be applied to this line in order to determine the optimal impedance bond intensity ...

The high-speed railway of catenary system, supplies a stable electric power supply to the train by satisfying the special conditions between pantograph and trolley wire, which operates more than 250km/h mutually sliding and feeding electric lines. According to Korean Railway Standard KRS PW 0026-13 (R), the standard for the grip strength of the dropper clamp in conventional line is established, but the high-speed railway line is not yet. When the grip strength of the dropper clamp is detached from the catenary line of the high-speed railway line, various problems may occur, such as damage to the pantograph due to the collision and arcing. In this paper, it is expected to be used as a basic data for establishing the durability criteria of the high-speed railway dropper clamp by verifying the dropper clamp on the Gyeong-bu and Honam high-speed line.
This study intended to identify the problems of the railroad which are raised as one of the 21C next-generation but to define the direction for the absence of the national policy and examine the competitiveness of railway transportation which is a Green Network with low environmental destruction and high energy efficiency as the continuable means of transportation for the 21st century with superiority to energy crisis caused by high oil price, conclusion of the Kyoto Protocol for worsened air pollution, and reduced cost of traffic jam.
The train conflict resolution problem refers to an adjustment of the train operation schedule in order to minimize the delay propagation when a train conflict is predicted or when a train conflict occurs. Previous train studies of train conflict resolutions are limited in terms of the size of the problems to be solved due to exponential increases in the variables. In this paper, we propose a train conflict resolution model using a time-space network to solve the train conflict situation in the operational phase. The proposed model adjusts the size of the problem by giving only the dwell tolerance in the time-space network only for stops at the station after a train conflict. In addition, the proposed model can solve large problems using a path flow variable. The study presents a train delay propagation analysis and experimental results of train conflict resolution assessments as well using the proposed model.
The Korean railroad has developed as a foundation of nation's nucleus network. Nowadays Korea has entered into a new era because of the operation of KTX(Korea Train Express). As an introduction of KTX, the Korean railroad system has advanced Korean style high speed rail(HSR-350x), which is based on transfer and own technology. It is expected that the Korean rail road system has the leading design and production ability. Korea is planning to develop its own high speed railroad system until 2007. So the present task is to initiate a strategic export method for the development and value-added of Korean high speed railroad system. Furthermore this study proposes the administrative and technical policy for the basic technical research and creativeness predominance.
Overhead line voltage of DC railway traction substations has rising or falling characteristics depending on the acceleration and regenerative braking of the subway train loads. The suppression of this irregular fluctuation of the line voltage gives rise to improved energy efficiency of both the railway substation and the trains. This paper presents parameter estimation schemes using the RC circuit model for an overhead line voltage at a 1500V DC electric railway traction substation. A linear artificial neural network with a back-propagation learning algorithm was trained using the measurement data for an overhead line voltage and four feeder currents. The least square estimation method was configured to implement batch processing of these measurement data. These estimation results have been presented and performance analysis has been achieved through raw data simulation.
Additional train scheduling is often required to increase the capacity of transporting passengers or freight. In most previous studies on scheduling additional trains, operation time of the added train is designated first; and then the train operation feasibility is examined. However, it is often difficult to apply this approach to domestic trains because the density of the railroad network in Korea is high and various types of trains are in use. Moreover, for freight trains, it is even more challenging because the delay is accumulated due to lower priority whenever a freight train and a passenger train contend for a common segment of rail. In this paper, we address the additional train scheduling problem which entails finding a feasible schedule for an additional train having a fixed departure time or departure time windows. The problem is modeled as a mixed integer programming and a column generation technique is used to solve it.
Ubiquotuous technology should be adopted in railroad business to provide passenger's security and convenience. In this project, IT and smart sensor technologies are reviewed, benchmarked, designed, and implemented. The target system is the next generation high speed train to be developed and operated in Korea with the maximum speed of 400km/h. Wireless sensor network with smart sensors is implemented around a train car. PC-like IT terminal will be designed and implemented so an individual passenger can use it to do information retrieval through the Internet, personal data processing, the e-learning, shopping on the railroad, and so on. These provision will give comfort, convenience, and safety of a passenger during his/her trip.
Korea Railway aims to be the most important public transportation for nationwide basic industries in 21st century. It is urgently necessary for us to construct economical railway network and to strengthen(strengthen) its competitive power in advance. In this paper the economical construction of railway network in Germany will be introduced. They lay emphasis on train speed and higher efficiency of railroad track.

Domestic railway communication in Korea has been introduced for mutual communications among control center, operation staffs, and maintenance staffs. It has been mainly used as railway disaster and safety functions from VHF and UHF from 1980’s and TRS-Astro and TRS-Tetra from the 2000’s. Recently for urban railways communications, 18GHz and 2.4GHz ranges have been utilized for image transmissions and control command communications, respectively. This paper analyzes technical development of LTE-R, LTE communication for Railways, that has been designed as a single integrated railway wireless network in order to merge the current various communication systems. In this paper, we present the details of the examination of the LTE-R test-bed using 2.6GHz test frequency in Daebul test line through CW test and optimization test.
